This is a particularly stupid argument because the only chance the US and Mexico have of playing is in the semifinal, so what's the point really?
If you go by head-to-head results, I guess you could say that USA looks pretty even with both of them. Through 3 WC games though, I'd say that USA looks like the worst of the three thus far.
I wouldn't count out USAs ability to beat Mexico in a matchup, as they tend to play eachother tough and go back and forth. I can't say the same vs. Costa Rica, just by the nature of how they've played so far and the teams that they have defeated.
Africa could have had 3 and at most 4 if Ivory Coast and Ghana won their last games.
Most disappointing for me? Europe

I'd rank Belgium above Algeria (if not by much). Argentina didn't really impress while France did (particularly against Switzerland), but France hasn't come up against a strong team yet.
Netherlands or Brazil... also similar, would be a fun semi into final series of games anyway.
In the end, there are no easy games in the knockout rounds either way. Every single one is do or die, and the ones who want to become champion need to beat every team in their way.

Only gave up one goal that was a penalty in this tournament so far.
He's stuck in qualifiers mode. Mexico sucked there, barely qualified. Politics and other stuff hindered Mexico's campaign, but as things stand now there is no way USA has played better football in the World Cup than either Mexico or Costa Rica.

Speaking for myself it's not really salt. I think a lot of people would say Costa Rica and Mexico seem more dangerous. Algeria, Nigeria, and Greece are surely worse.

I just think it is dumb to bring up qualifier stage of all things to this topic. Saying that CRC or MEX have played better football than the US in the World Cup is hardly salt. salt is not to accept it when everyone has seen the matches.
