How would you guys rank the round of 16 teams? Here's mine:

1. Brazil
2. Germany
3. Netherlands
4. Colombia
5. Argentina
6. France
7. Chile
8. Costa Rica
9. Belgium
10. Uruguay
11. Mexico
12. Switzerland
13. USA
14. Algeria
15. Greece
16. Nigeria

I'd probably put Brazil down around 8, move Colombia down to 9. Move Belgium up to 7. Other than that, looks like a pretty good list.

Seriously.

For the players as well, I never liked all the bonuses and shit. I question anyone who needs additional motivation to do his very best at the world cup because he gets a personal win bonus.

If privately owned club teams want to make their players rich, that's their decision, it's company money, it's salary. But that the country football associations pay extra so the rich men really want to represent the country at the sport's most prestigious event... it never sat right with me.

Does every countries manager have the same influence on each countries top league?

I can't see an England manager having an influence on the FA but I can see Capello and Jurgen having influence on their leagues.

I thought Brazil and Colombia looked much better than Belgium in the group stages. Belgium won all 3 games, yes, but it was an easy group and yet they didn't win any of their games by a convincing scoreline. Colombia was also in an easy group, but they handled all three of their opponents with class. Brazil had a slightly underwhelming group stage, but they went through undefeated and with their talent and home field advantage, I still think they are the team to beat right now.

Yep, those two have. It depends on the league and the goal. MLS wants to improve, Russia wants to be prepared for 2018. That is why they bought Capello and Klinsmann. But Bundesliga or Premier League listening to the national team coach? Lulz

I think Germany should be on top, they have more talent and experience than anyone else. Take Brazil down a few notches, they haven't impressed me one bit. Other than that, good list.

The top 6 are all contenders IMO. Maybe Belgium too, although they've shown jack shit until now.

Colombia is yet untested. but defeating small teams has been tough on this WC so its really hard to say.

Not sure about that, but he's the one that hit the ref and got knocked to the ground.
uHeO32X.gif

I must say that the refs have impacted tons of play in this WC. At the same time the ref kicked a ball in the RUS game. They are getting in the way of play more and more, and frankly its just sad. This example isn't really his fault, but there's been at least six or seven times I've seen a ref influence play directly.

Is this satire?! Surely she can't be serious:
Any growing interest in soccer a sign of nation's moral decay

If more "Americans" are watching soccer today, it's only because of the demographic switch effected by Teddy Kennedy's 1965 immigration law. I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time.

I've held off on writing about soccer for a decade — or about the length of the average soccer game — so as not to offend anyone. But enough is enough. Any growing interest in soccer can only be a sign of the nation's moral decay.

• Individual achievement is not a big factor in soccer. In a real sport, players fumble passes, throw bricks and drop fly balls — all in front of a crowd. When baseball players strike out, they're standing alone at the plate. But there's also individual glory in home runs, touchdowns and slam-dunks.

...

• Liberal moms like soccer because it's a sport in which athletic talent finds so little expression that girls can play with boys. No serious sport is co-ed, even at the kindergarten level.

USA vs Germany World Cup Match -- Porn Site Traffic Dips, Except For ...

A giant porn company suffered a seismic loss in business when the U.S. World Cup team triumphantly lost to Germany Thursday ... with a notable gay exception.

The folks over at Bang Bros -- who run sites like Bang Bus, AssParade and TugJobs -- tell TMZ their network of sites took a 33% hit during the big match.

But for some reason ... its gay site, Gay Pawn, saw a rise in traffic ... to the tune of 23%.

Theories in the office:

-- It was a great 2-screen experience
-- The hot soccer players got people hot
-- Someone else controlled the TV set
-- The soccer players got the "curious" more curious
-- All that talk of headers ...

Not that there's anything wrong with any of our theories.

Oh she is serious. She is a complete nutjob

I am a bit iffy on france now after their game vs Ecuador. First team to test them and they didn't perform like before especially when you consider the fact that ecuador was playing with 10 men

It's not satire but it's not serious either. Ann coulter lives to rile up normal people and especially liberals.

She's nothing more than a professional troll.

Most trolls will have tells or moments when you can tell they are just trying to rile up a crowd(like Hannity) but Coulter is always the same crazy.

I think she is really like that.

See maybe it's just me but that whole article just screams like she's trying too hard to rile people up.

Mexico's doomed for a 6th consecutive elimination in Round of 16 isn't it? This is just a fucking curse already. If FIFA wasn't dead set on making sure Brazil qualified as 1st by disallowing two legitimate Mexican goals and not give a clear penalty in our third game we might have gone through as 1st and avoid Netherlands.

Christ, we ended up playing against the one team no one wanted to see this early in the knockout rounds.

It's not like they're unbeatable. Australia should have defeated them. Mexico is in the same league as Australia but a few levels higher. Imo you boys have a decent chance.

Maybe Netherlands will feel the pressure now that so many people are talking about them as potential winners, you never know, but Mexico definitely won't be push overs; they have quality everywhere.

Nightmare scenario for Europe:

Greece gets to final of World cup
Beats Brazil 0-1
Critics adopt Greek style football because they feel its the new beautiful form
Football fans either kill themselves or fall asleep when watching Greek football spread
Football becomes so unpopular FIFA is no longer corruptible.
Football clubs in Germany, England, Italy, and France convert the pitches to Counter Strike arenas.

2022 FIFA CounterStrike World Cup is played in Sweeden.

Greece can not win.

2. netherlands
3. france
4. brazil
5. germany
6. costa rica
7. mexico
8. messi
9. chile
10. uruguay
11. belgium
12. switzerland
13. algeria
14. nigeria
15. greece
16. usa

don't think colombia will win it, just been most impressed by their performances. don't really count france's final game because they obviously didn't care.

the US definitely has a chance at beating belgium. i can't wait for tuesday. i'm going to go CRAZY if we make it to the next round. USA! USA! USA!

Yeah, if we just advance to the next round I'll be immensely satisfied. Top 8 ain't too shabby. This world cup is probably the most popular in the states ever so far and has already added a lot of interest into soccer here

Nah man, they rested key players (they started with 6 different players from the line up against Switzerland) and would have ended first of the group even with a loss. They surely should have scored one or two, but they didn't need to go 100% and risk of injuries and more yellow cards.

My god if Chile wins tomorrow, I'll go crazy and party for a week, that is if I dont die from a heart attack.

I can only imagine what it would be for a SA country to eliminate Brazil in Brazil. Madness.

Like, the party would last for days I imagine. Good luck =)

This is based on how good the teams can perform. Group play is full of oddness that sees strange results and performances, both for good and bad.

1. Germany
2. Netherlands
3. Brazil
4. Argentina
5. Chile
6. France
7. Colombia
8. Belgium
9. USA
10. Costa Rica
11. Mexico
12. Switzerland
13. Uruguay (they're boned without Suarez)
14. Greece
15. Nigeria
16. Algeria

So yeah, I don't expect the US to go through to the final 8, but I do think that they have a decent shot at it. I just don't know that we're one of the best 8 teams in the world left. I hope it doesn't happen, but I think that Costa Rica will come back down to earth. They've been playing great, but I think that they were a bit underestimated and taken far too lightly (which may have been true of the US and Mexico as well).

Switzerland is too much of a one man show, and they got obliterated by France. Belgium feels like a team that could go deep if they figure out how to play smarter team ball. The individual talent is there, but they're scattered.

I might have Colombia too high, but I like them going through one more round, given that Uruguay is toothless without Suarez, though Diego Forlan might be able to stir up some magic, but it's not very likely.

1. Germany
2. Netherlands
3. Argentina
4. Brazil
5. Chile
6. France
7. Belgium
8. Colombia
9. Mexico
10. Costa Rica
11. Switzerland
12. Uruguay (w/o Suarez)
13. USA
14. Algeria
15. Nigeria
16. Greece

BUT...the US is going to beat Belgium either way.

I realized that after I typed it. Of course it's a good salary, just saying in comparison to the other coaches on there, it's really low. Especially with the results that he's turned in this year.

I think it's largely due to the fact that Mexico fired so many coaches during quals and there was no guarantee he'd do any better. I'm sure he'll get a new deal after the WC that pays him a salary commensurate with his achievements.

Costa Rica below USA in some of these lists? SMH.

You guys beat didn't even beat England.

England!

The most pathetic, horrible, failure, deadbeat, has-been, feeble, pitiful, sorry, woeful, inadequate, useless, wretched, worthless, poor, and shity football nation out there.

England should just give their spot to Scotland next time or let their players play for Ireland like the 1994 Irish squad.
