Did he? Maybe Im thinking ribery.

Probably, Henry's pretty old at this point. Well he's 36, but that's still old for the international scene.

Doubt that. Nasri was left out when he was a player who had a good season and is in form, Henry is a has been who´s been doing so-so on a lower quality league.

Well, it's probably more age than anything else. Not many teams are so shallow that they need to call up 36-year-olds. Only reason Germany still calls Klose up is since they have no other striker.

Chile winning would be amazing

I hope Cavani wakes up and that we get Forlan on the second half

I am actually a little bit frightened for the tension in the country if Brazil loses. Sore-loser mentality could cause some more Brazilians to say "This is stupid, why did we host this stupid expensive tournament" and side with protesters.

Yeah, I guess it could happen. They definetly hold grudges but 1950 for example is more of a running joke now than any real anger. They won't "forgive us" but it's all good. Hard to tell how it'd be now since they havent hosted a WC since. I don't think Chile winning would be great in any sort of Brasil-hatred way, but rather just cause I really like Chile and it'd be cool to seem the hold a trophy.

Uruguay - Brasil final and outcome would probably make the world explode

The length of some of these grudges, joking or not, is astounding to me. The vast majority of Brazil/Chile fans were not alive at that time!

Then again, as a Greek fan I was surprised to find how many Portugal fans are still salty about Euro 2004. These things can last a while....

I got Colombia to win 3-0

Uruguay are toothless without Suarez

there was a great documentary made this year about Maracanazo, and it covers the longlasting "grudge":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBPe_yxxjJw

there's also a movie coming out next year, been talked about for a while: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3630890/

footage is pretty wild. Basically everyone in Brasil were assuming the win. President's speech was basically "you're all about to be champions in a matter of minuts!" and when we won shit was silent

Brazil 2-1 Chile
Colombia 2-0 Uruguay
Netherlands 1-0 Mexico
Costa Rica 0-0 Greece (Greece pens)
France 3-1 Nigeria
Argentina 2-1 Switzerland
Germany 3-1 Algeria
Belgium 1-1 USA (USA pens)

I woke up this morning thinking I Chile had won 6-3.

All your other scores looks respectable. Although i can see Holland flopping.

The U.S. has now reached the elimination stage in consecutive World Cups for the first time ever. It is time to start acting like we've been here before and that requires learning to hate our opponent, no matter how insensitive and xenophobic it makes us. This stuff isn't for the faint of heart.

Supporters of real soccer powers so revel in their desperate ignorance and self-loathing offensives it's a wonder Ann Coulter isn't actually a fan.

My sides.

My predictions will throw in an upset..

Brazil 3-2 Chile
Colombia 4-1 Uruguay

Upset
Chile..

If Uruguay had the football vampire then they would be my upset pick, but with him gone i give them no chance of beating Colombia..

Thinking that one player makes a team is really having no knowledge about the sport, so Colombia shouldn't be doing as good as they are doing because falcao is out? So call it even, Colombia no falcao, Uruguay no Suarez
You think Portugal's good without Ronaldo? Argentina can win without Messi? Those teams are built around one player.

Brazil-Chile
Colombia-Uruguay (Because we all love Uruguay and Suarez)
Netherlands - Mexico
Costa Rica - Greece
France - Nigeria
Argentina -Switzerland
Germany - Algeria
Belgium - God's country

Common Colombia!!!
Has there been any talk about attendance? Fans in the stands have been crucial to colombia this WC. At the very least I think brazilian fans will be with us!

Can't watch any match today or tomorrow due to work, gonna miss the Netherlands' match :(. Hoping that Chili defeat Brazil (imagine the riots) and that Colombia beat Uruguay.

The USA are by far the worst footballing team in the competition. Their heart, fight and will to win just might see them beat Belgium, but let's not pretend they're anything other than awful.

They could barely string 3 passes together without giving the ball back to the opposition, and their players have touches worse than the kids at my local park (Michael Bradley, oh my God).

yeah, but on the other hand howard is a really good goalkeeper.

i think he should defect.

Why do you hate freedom?
That's what americans will say to you :P

Anyone who knows where I can find France's most likely starting XI against Nigeria? And Belgium's against USA?
Belgiums should be

--Courtois--

Alderweireld--Van Buyten--Kompany-Vertonghen

---Witsel---

De Bruyne----Fellaini

Mertens-------------------Hazard

--Origi--

I mean, no. Also no need to sink as low as you do in terms of hyperbole (re local kids).

I'd rank them about #8-#10 of the remaining teams, they've looked sharp in periods, dangerous, quick counter attacks.

I'm talking pure technique and control of the ball.

They're incredibly organised and defend really well, keep their positions, stay on their feet, and tackle at the right times.

I do like Jones, Beckerman and Johnson, though.

Too early to say, but my guess for France is something like this:

Lloris
Debuchy - Sakho - Varane - Evra
Pogba - Cabaye - Matuidi
Valbuena - Giroud - Benzema

I'm guessing Giroud will be used for his physical presence instead of Griezmann.
