I have a question, why the hell isnt the world bored to death of shooters yet? How many of them do we really need? Dont get me wrong, ive enjoyed many of them over the years, but where is the real creativity that would provide us with new and unique gaming experiences? Think about all of the resources dedicated to shooters that COULD be working on something different.
For some reason FPSs are like crack to so many people and i just dont get it. Is that ALL you want from games? Well dont worry, your supply chain will seemingly never run dry. You can virtually shoot things over and over and over... [Zzzzz] until the end of time. Yay.

*shrugs* I don't even play FPSes, but your question could literally apply to any popular genre. And the answer is: Some people like what they like. You've got Ryu in your avatar. Street Fighter is a game that doesn't work for me--I can't get the motions down, and I can't pay attention to frames like that.
Most importantly? I've got friends who can literally play Street Fighter for
hours. I can't fucking do it. Thirty minutes,
maybe an hour, and I'm out. Cut something else on--preferably something with story. And yet, you
need to do that (put in hours of work) to really, really be good at the game. I get that, but when I'm sitting there watch someone work on the button combinations for the same four or five moves like a robot, it boggles my mind.
To me it's not unique, but it's whatever. What's enjoyable to one person isn't going to be enjoyable to the next. Personally I
never get tired of high fantasy games--I want bigger worlds, more races and classes, more fantastical spells and summons, ridiculously powerful swords with long histories, and lore that would take forever to get through. When people call those games generic, I roll my eyes. But again, not everything is for everybody.
The only thing I really, really find boring? This recent obsession people have with "new and unique gaming experiences". No offense (honest), it just sounds...corny. Like, I want new shit too, but when I see people talk about "there really hasn't been any unique changes in gaming since Mario 64" or whatever? I can't deal. At a certain point, it becomes about incremental changes rather than groundbreaking ones. Graphics are stressed because they're the easiest, but it's other things too--expansive open worlds. More realistic AI. Making games more immersive--these are changes that happen in increments rather than something that's just revolutionary.
Every form of media had to deal with it. Short of a visionary coming along (who by the way, wouldn't be constrained by publishers obsessed with FPS), we're not going to get too many more groundbreaking experiences.
Dragon's Dogma is a better game than the soul's series is.
I wish there was a sequel to it and Dark Souls 2 (that abomination of a game) NEVER came out. DkS2 was especially ruined by poor level design. FROM's 'B' team is more like a 'C' team...
In Dragon's Dogma:
-You can actually jump
-Faster classes (striders) can actually dash and MOVE FAST (WOW, MUCH SENSE)
-There are actually classes. Not just stat point allocations done for you in the beginning (wtf? Dark souls)
-The spells are more fleshed out and have ACTUAL effects... not just damage. Ice causes freezing (ground breaking I know). Spells overall are more satisfying visually.
-You can climb ANYthing you can get your hands on. Even monsters/giants (just like Shadow of the colossus). True world interaction.
Matter fact: DD feels like an upgrade to Souls games in general. Even the story makes more sense. Especially the ending-which-isnt-really-an-ending-but-more-like-the-game-just-begins-which-is-really-awesome-and-reminds-me-of-Symphony-of-the-Night.
Ok, Im done.
*Runs away singing and skipping*
The more I hear about Dragon's Dogma the more I wonder if I'm missing out on a real gem because I find the art design of the world to be one of the most boring things I've ever seen. Also, the fact that you're a mute create-a-character and don't have a party with real personalities detracts as well.
