I never watched much AGDQ, aside from a few Cosmo speedruns (which are actually quite good), is it always a bunch of awkward kids sitting on a couch saying inane shit?

Oh please, you're not even looking for an answer to this; you've already made up your mind that the speedrunners at AGDQ/SGDQ are as you characterize them. So your sample size is around three (Cosmo, Trihex and maybe someone else) and you start making assumptions. Lay off it.

GB are good game salesmen. I want Next Car Game now.

I really really really wanna buy next car game now. It looked ace on UPF.

Yeah, that segment really sold me on the game. It's now on my illustrious Steam wishlist.

I'm not usually one for car games, but that looks like a blast to play. I'm hoping it goes on the steam Daily sale. Rorie mentioned it was 40% off at some point, has it already been on sale?

You guys are probably looking to get it cheaper, but if you want some small extra things and more importantly support Bugbear you can pre-order from their website.

Hey, you know what? You are right. I was being a smartass.
I'm sure a lot of cool speedruns happen at this thing, but seriously every time someone links something from it, I find it really hard to watch.

Cool that you own up to it.

Indeed a lot of people who are drawn to speedrunning are socially awkward or shut-ins, and this often comes out in full force at the marathons. Add to that the pressure of playing in front of 50k+ people online and a live audience for these guys who aren't used to being in the spotlight, sometimes stupid things come out (well, more often than not). Furthermore, the speedrunning community is tight knit with its memes and jargon, and it might at times be strange for an outsider looking in.

I agree, to a lesser extent. The quality of commentary can make or break AGDQ/SGDQ segments. It's usually pretty good though.

If you want an example of a good run, watch this Halo run from the other day (at 36:14:25). The guy does an excellent job of talking about what he's doing and explaining the history of his community. I tuned in just to see what was going on and ended up watching the whole thing.

Most of the speedrunners get like 30 or less viewers on their channels and have no webcam. So going from that to this is quite a bit different.

Overall though most handle it pretty well.

Toribash mentioned on UPF. That's as close as I'm ever gonna get; I'll take it.

edit: :O They actually play it! yes!

Aw no multiplayer :(. It is free.

are you ready?

Nintendo fanboys can be some of the most obnoxious people about reviews, ever.
W101 is getting average scores? Gaming media is crap, they don't even know how to play games!
SM3DW is getting awesome scores and goty awards? See, Nintendo is still making great games!
The Gerstman/Yoshi thread even had a guy complaining that Jeff gave State of Emergency a better score over Wind Waker. Some people really are obsessed over what score someone else gives them.

Every console system fanboy is the same. Remember mama robotniks wall of shame?

Man, reading through tweets just now, click on one of Patrick's, and someone is being obnoxious. Click through to read their tweets, and they go out of their way to be an asshole to Patrick constantly. How sad must your life be that you feel compelled to harass someone all the time because you don't really like them?

Hell, I barely understand people who actively dislike any of the duders enough they have to post about it.

Shit is weird. I just enjoy them and the content. Maybe I'm really the crazy one all along.

The way Vinny and everyone was talking about SF, I'd be scared to commit to a place like that. It sounds like it doesn't provide nearly enough in return for being the most expensive place to live.

I like Patrick's writing a lot, but his Shovel Knight review is weirdly poorly written in some spots, especially for him. This segment from the first paragraph in particular is pretty bad.

Shovel Knight feels both old and new, mining our collective memories for the right reason: making a good video game. And Shovel Knight is a very good video game.

I think people were discussing this earlier but I just got around to reading the review.

I like Patrick as a personality and think he's pretty clever. That said, I've never been impressed by his writing.

Yo monday is going to be either good or disappointing

I figured we were finding out on Tuesday. That's the new quarter for Giant Bomb, according to Vinny. He said that when he mentioned they couldn't purchase furniture for Giant BEast until after July 1st. I assume the same holds true for the new hires for Giant Bomb West. That way, they could be introduced on the next Bombcast.

FUCK THAT'S WHY HE'S BEEN CALLING IT THAT I JUST GOT IT

Well both Jason and Dan start their new job on monday so unless everybody go radio silent we'll learn on monday.

I live in Vancouver (which is equally insane and expensive) and everything works out fine as long as your job pays you enough.

One assumes theres not a huge amount of six figure salaries for your average game site employee in San Fran and raising a family is expensive.

That's absolutely fantastic! Are people really still upset after the 8.8 though? Anybody who actually played the game that is.

What does he say at the end? "Gamespy or gamespot editor gave the game an 8.8, the internet something something bad reviewer."

edit: I think maybe he says "He's internet famous for being a bad reviewer"

Is HTML5 HD the best video quality?

The best quality is to actually just hit download below the video and select HD.

Then you can press F11 to full screen your browser with a black background so that you'll have a 1:1 video at original uploaded quality with no scaling done.

But HTML5 HD is pretty good too.
