Luis Suarez the football vampire has bitten another player [Update: BANNED]

Just saw that Suarez statement on Twitter and I couldn't tell if it's real or a joke. In retrospect, I shouldn't have doubted it for a moment.

When I lose my balance and fall over, my first reaction is also to grab hold of something with my teeth. Using your arms wastes too much energy.

In any normal job, if you bite a coworker, you get fired and charged with assault. It boggles my mind that athletes are able to get away with garbage like this and come away with a slap on the wrist.
You also get fired if you play soccer during worktime, so please keep it apples to apples.

Plus Chiellini is not Suarez's coworker :p

As I (and others) have said before, there's strong evidence suggesting that Suárez is racist. If racism is not enough to ban a player from the sport, I don't know what is. People defending this guy... it's beyond me.

Racist against whom exactly?

Let's hope that the fine has cured his racism.
And getting banned from playing football would? Wait, are you saying that it's okay and fine to be a racist as long as you don't play professional football? WOW dude, just... wow.

I don't doubt all manner of players hold unsavoury views in large part because footballers aren't highly educated on the whole and a fair few come from modest/impoverished backgrounds (one of the sports main draws is anyone whatever their means can become a star). If there is a failure to educate, then it's on the part of the clubs that take them on.

Reminds me of a couple seasons ago when Ndamukong Suh (NFL) blatantly stomped on a Green Bay Packer after the play was over and in the media later, tried to say that "He lost his balance".

Here's an old gif:

thats not even remotely close to what he said. like the hoops you have to jump through to get to this is absurd. how much of a persecution complex do you have to have to get from what he said to this shit?

its great that you find fault in anyone but the player who has had fine after fine after fine as if that wouldnt be enough to clue his dumbass in that maybe he should change the way he behaves on field?!

Sorry guys, I read that Suarez should get outright banned from football following his incident with Evra, and thought of playing along with the joke posting and sarcasm.

But apparently it was serious?

I think you're conflating the racism with the biting there buddy. Talk on point or not at all.

Gary Oldman, is that you?

They're grown adults on an international stage. Lets not patronise them like children and assume they don't know right from wrong.

Wow, you're right, all behaviour does occur in a vacuum, and there's absolutely no way to use multiple examples to make a conclusion. How desperate to defend this idiot are you?

The number of people defending this fool is truly unbelievable, so many excuses for awful repeated behaviour.

So many Liverpool fans.

The subject was racism, and whether he should be banned for life for that. That's what I was talking about. I certainly don't think Suarez is blameless, but at the same time I don't hold that ignorance likely as a result of a person background/unbringing is a crime. One has to mitigate these things.

Most grown adults what? Don't know right from wrong? Hold racist views?

Know right from wrong. The world is full of people who do extremely idiotic things all the time, this idea that somehow they reach the magical age of 18 and become fully functioning adults who make no mistakes whatsoever and think things through is kind of cute tbh.

No, I believe he's saying someone who shows such terrible behavior shouldn't be such a huge public figure like a pro athlete.

Are you kidding me? Their job is playing soccer. You don't get fired for doing your job.

And yeah, they actually are coworkers. Their job is to play soccer and they're playing in the same organization (FIFA).

I'm not sure what your point is. Are you trying to justify racism? If so, you're gonna have a hard time trying to do that. Education can help prevent racism, but being uneducated and/or poor is not a cause or reason for being racist. Not by a long shot. The problem is much broader than that. Also, Suárez should be banned to set an example, so that others don't become like him - and not as a way to "recover/heal" Suárez from racism. Likewise, putting a murderer in jail won't bring his victim back to life, but will help prevent new murders.

Yeah, their job is different from yours, that's why you can't compare actions in such different contexts. Maybe they also can get fired if they stop what they're doing to go sharpen a pencil, but you can pull that shit off, right?

All players in the world playing for FIFA don't make them all colleagues or coworkers. They play for actual teams that pay them, but whatever on that.

I'm worried that because Suarez has been defended by so many people, that he's going to think that he is being unfairly prosecuted and he'll carry on biting or being racist. He is a very talented footballer but he needs to realise that what he did was wrong and that he can't behave like that. If Uruguay win the appeal then I won't know what to say.

He has a whole country behind him (figuratively speaking - I doubt all fans and people are on his side, but in his eyes the 'public' are behind him). Even if he realised he was in the wrong, it's hard to believe he won't do it again.

There are too many people willing to justify his behavior - whether it's this, bad fouls, diving, the handball... we've reached a (sad, in my eyes) point where 'winning above all/at any cost' and having talent is justifiable. 'Doesn't matter if you win dirty; just win'. Which is an awful viewpoint, because when that is vindicated it becomes ingrained and eventually anything goes - after all, where's the line? Where exactly do you stop? Throw money and influence into the mix and it's intoxicating. Why admit what others would deem bad behaviour if you know you'll have people in influence giving you a pass and willing to say you're "right"?

He's like a child whose parents will defend any behavior because he has talent. It'll take substantial course correction, rather than the coddling he's currently getting, to change that mindset... if at all.

For every Suarez defender you have some crazy dude claiming he actually should ger banned for life, for at least 3 or 4 reasons, so don't fret.

And no, Uruguay is not going to win the appeal because FIFA, despite all the "lulz c0rrupts" are actually spot on with these kinds of things and know exactly what they are doing. That's why you don't get life bannings for stupid things or no bannings for stupid things.

If Uruguay lose the appeal can FIFA extend the ban?

I don't mind you calling me "crazy", but I'm still waiting for an argument that explains why a racist player shouldn't be banned from the sport.

Theoretically, they can do whatever, as it's their game. And I see where you're coming from, but I think that FIFA will exercise restraint in this case.

You can't separate completely Suarez's testimony from a whole country and team wanting to have the player available in the context of a World Cup still going on. I don't doubt that player could have came with that testimony himself, but it is part of a whole defense being architectured by their legal people and higher ups. It would be too penalizing for an individual player to be extra punished by that... if anything, they should punish the Uruguayan federation (which I doubt as well).

You make a good point and I agree, the existing ban is long enough.

Then you would have whole leagues banned. I understand that racism is the worst, but it's not feasible to ban everyone who still holds any thought of it, but rather dish out discrete punishments for whichever racially motivated actions, proportionally.

You'll have to forgive me, but this argument is terrible. We shouldn't ban racist players because there's a whole lot of them running loose? If we keep this kind of idea (light punishment against racial abuse), racism will stay strong for a long time.

The argument about the Ghana handball is reducible to how people think players of a competitive sport should behave within the regulations of the game. If, like me, you think that it is the job of the rule-setting body to restrict players' behaviour (such that the punishment for fouls equals their cost to the other team) then the handball was fair. Clearly the optimal solution is for FIFA to impose that goal-line handballs count as goals, but that's not really what is being argued about here. As it stands, a red card and penalty is the price a player's team pays for this particular foul -- whether or not that is fair is beside the point.

You don't understand. Other people do bad things on the pitch too and that makes biting OK. And Chiellini says its too much so that means it totally is.

Lets be honest, if Suarez had never came to England he wouldn't be getting punished this harshly even if it is his third time biting someone. Dude should have gone to Spain or Italy like most other South American players, he wasn't capable of adapting culturally to Western European sporting standards.

Once he goes to Spain, I don't expect to hear a peep of controversy arising from his actions.

When did Spain and Italy leave Western Europe?
