Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Since we already determined Warlock is the best class, let's talk about weapons.

Which three-weapon combination is the best on each of the two maps we played?

Earth - AR, Shotty, Rockets
Moon - Pulse, Snipes, LMG

I used Hand Cannon and Shotty for both maps.I love me some Hand Cannon.

That sounds dirty.

EDIT: Oh and Rocket Launchers. I never found a machine gun.

I found the LMGs to be pretty useless compared to the rocket launchers, personally. But maybe I just need to get better at fighting their recoil. And I used the AR on both maps. The poor accuracy at long range was an issues sometimes, but not often. Also: remember that we're able (as of the Alpha) to go into our inventory and switch weapons mid-match. I would find myself switching to a Scout Rifle in the middle of matches on First Light sometimes.

Also, I'm terrible at sniping, so I never bothered with the sniper rifles, lol.

LMG was cool when you just feathered the trigger, fast short bursts. Preferred it over the rockets as it gave you longer dealing higher damage.

So question about Blink: Is it just a normal jump, or can you change the direction and "blink" forward or downward? If so, then that definitely would be pretty cool and give it an edge in PvP; however, if it functions the same as any of the other vertical jumps with just a disappearance part, then I don't see how that justifies all the "best class" comments.

I'm still confused ;(
It all comes back to the VoG.

Or VaG.

So far we've only seen Blink used as a forward-moving ability, and I doubt it'd go in other directions (and doesn't go through walls either ;_;) but where Blink will probably play out well will be in PvP - if someone has their sights on you, you disappear from in front of them and appear somewhere else. It has definite defensive capabilities.

This is a Pic of my Warlock standing somewhere where you shouldn't be able to go, was the perfect location for a nice picture.

I found that the machine guns were really only useful during the Sepiks Prime fight. When my primary and special ran out of ammo and those shielded Fallen pushed me back into the hallways, it was a helpful last resort option. rockets took too long to reload in those moments, so they weren't as effective.

I believe if your first jump is in a certain direction you will blink in that direction as well.

For example, your first jump is to the north, and you turn east mid jump, you tap the jump button to blink. You still end up blinking to the north I think. Same can apply even if you jump backwards I believe. You blink backwards.

Blink is purely on a horizontal plane only, no vertical blinking.

Blink distance appears to be about 3 or 4 meters too.

So blinking is good for getting away, and moving around horizontally, but you sacrifice the vertical versatility completely. So gotta choose, vertical or horizontal versatility.

Using blink in conjunction with blink strike could be very useful in pvp, especially if you are behind someone a decent distance and they are sprinting. Blink to make up 3/4 meters, and blink strike right away to make up another 3/4 meters. If you have the ability that increases damage significantly when blink striking from behind then it becomes a 1 hit melee kill instead of the two needed for normal melee. Plus you don't give your position away because you had to shoot the guy to get the kill.

Has there been any word on being able to download the beta beforehand? How did the alpha work?

The alpha couldn't be preloaded. I'm hoping the beta will be different since it required pre-ordering and registering on bungie's site any way.

This footage shows something interesting - a Warlock looks to blink vertically before dropping a Nova Bomb. At first I thought it may have been the activation of the Nova Bomb, but it looks like they're two separate events, as the Nova Bomb activation happens while the Warlock is on the descent.

<33

If that really is Blink then it seems Titans can get it too (At least i'm pretty sure that it's a Titan we are looking at).

If this is the case it seems all classes can get the available jumps which would be pretty damn sweet.

That seems really... boring to me.

This thread is still going strong :). Ah yes, July 1st is Tuesday and inching closer to the Beta. Warlock peeps, we going to run it lol. I guess Titan and Hunter are alright too :).

Then have we just confirmed that all 3 classes have access to all 3 movement abilities, they're just attached to different subclasses?

The thing is.. we really haven't confirmed much of anything. We're making guesses based on videos and there's no real telling what the nature of the Hunter and Titan's teleport ability is. I mean the other vid with the Hunter "blink" during PvP looks like a legitimate Blink but this Titan one.. it could just be a different form of it's Fist Slam or some other kind of attack. He launches into the air then isn't visible and then it's a hard cut to a completely different scene.

TL;DR - WE KNOW NOTHING!

We can't really confirm anything from that footage, it's not clear enough.

That said though, i think you could be right about all classes having access to all the movement abilities through their subclasses.

At this stage I'm more inclined to believe that every class with have access to a blink or glide style jump but with slight variations. Say for example Titan can blink vertically or horizontally at a set distance/vector... Where as Warlock can blink in any direction/vector based on the momentum of the original jump - Similar to the glide

I dunno about that. Take Blink out of the equation for a sec. What Hunter or Titan specific movement have we seen elsewhere? I've not seen a triple jump on anything except what I think is a Hunter.

If Blink is one of several phasing options across classes that would make sense. But I don't think that all of these movement types are exclusively Blink.
None of these even look like they actually function the same way.

This could also be the Catapult ability that Titans get as the descriptor for that is, "Gives a large momentum boost" or something along those lines.

That looks like a large momentum boost.

Edit: And if I had to guess, I would assume that the Hunter's "blink" is really the Arc Blade being put to good use.

Where's this information coming from?

Should've mentioned it was my conjecture based on footage and the descriptions of the ability. I guess I didn't make that clear. Also I was talking about the hunter's iteration of blink, and not the warlock. I do think that blink will work differently between the two classes.

Apologies if this was discussed already.
Reading the Bungie forums I came across this little thread.

Talking about possible hints to the Beta location hidden in this weeks Mail Sack.

And I think to myself "Roll on Bungie Day, and the announcement of the Destiny CE..."

How come only the Aus/NZ section is "All Platforms"?

Yes - eagerly awaiting bungie day so i can run down and pre-order it.

Also don't know why it is the only all platforms - i guess because i thought it was simpler to have all platforms in the thread considering AusGAF would likely be smaller then some of the other time zones splitting threads across multiple platforms.

DestinyGAF should just have a PS4 thread and then an Others thread per region, considering the overwhelming majority that there'll inevitably be for the PS4 over all other options.

I think the Warlock blink may just be vertical (as we saw in the beta b-roll) and the hunter blink is more horizontal but can go diagonal.

As a hunter I plan to primarily use: Hand Cannon, Sniper, LMG. With the right upgrades a hand cannon be be rapid and can do a lot of damage up close and can have decent scope/accuracy increases(close-mid range covered), Sniper covers long range, and LMG coves mid range engagements.

Also still waiting for the announcement of a collector's edition. I will be getting it for sure.

I'm gone for a day and the last couple of pages got weird... You guys should play some other games or go get fresh air, instead of hanging out in this thread all day :D
