Luis Suarez the football vampire has bitten another player [Update: BANNED]

I'm not sure what your point is. Are you trying to justify racism? If so, you're gonna have a hard time trying to do that. Education can help prevent racism, but being uneducated and/or poor is not a cause or reason for being racist. Not by a long shot. The problem is much broader than that. Also, Suárez should be banned to set an example, so that others don't become like him - and not as a way to "recover/heal" Suárez from racism. Likewise, putting a murderer in jail won't bring his victim back to life, but will help prevent new murders.

1 Pretty sure I'm not "justifying racism" but do keep leaping to extremes with every post.

2) If social ignorance and lack of education aren't catalysts for racism then I'd love hear what the real reasons are tbh.

You'll have to forgive me, but this argument is terrible. We shouldn't ban racist players because there's a whole lot of them running loose? If we keep this kind of idea (light punishment against racial abuse), racism will stay strong for a long time.

You address racism through education. This idea that wholesale banning people for life from a profession for a first offence is both unrealistic and farcical.

I was trying to understand your point, and I made an honest question. I'm not pushing you against the wall, nor "leaping to extremes". And I apologize if it seemed this way. However, in my opinion, your approach towards racism (regarding Suárez case) is lenient, and I strongly disagree with you.

2) If social ignorance and lack of education aren't catalysts for racism then I'd love hear what the real reasons are tbh.
"Catalyst" is a new word in your discourse, and I don't think that anybody would argue against ignorance's role in racism's genesis. However, in your previous posts, you suggested that Suárez's poor/uneducated background should mitigate his punishment. As I have stated before, this reasoning is utterly flawed, mainly because ignorance does not justify racism, in the same way that it doesn't justify murder, for instance (despite ignorance/poverty being a possible "catalyst" for murder).

Also, I don't have time, interest or competence to properly explain racism to you. Anything that I could say in that regard would seem pathetic, given the magnitude of the subject. However, I stand by what I've said (ignorance does not justify racism).

You address racism through education.
Agreed.
This idea that wholesale banning people for life from a profession for a first offence is both unrealistic and farcical.
This argument would make sense for Suárez's biting problem (if he had bitten people only once), but not for racism. This "first offence" logic does not apply here. You're racist or you're not. And if you are, you should be banned (from the sport) to set an example and to show to society that racism is not tolerated in any way or form.

The Uruguay captain Diego Lugano has branded the four-month suspension handed to Luis Suárez an act of “barbarity” that breaches the Liverpool striker’s human rights.

Fifa suspended Suárez from “all football related activity” until the end of October last week after finding him guilty of biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the South Americans’ Group D victory over the Azzurri in Natal. The forward, who is not allowed to set foot in a stadium over the course of the sanction, began the ban on Saturday as his compatriots were eliminated from the World Cup by Colombia at the Maracanã.

The severity of the punishment – Suárez was also banned for nine competitive Uruguay matches and fined £66,000 – has provoked a furious reaction back in Uruguay, as well as among Óscar Tabárez’s squad, with Lugano highly critical of the global game’s governing body as he took leave of the tournament. “It’s a breach of human rights that a player cannot go into a stadium where there are 80,000 people, or into a hotel with his team-mates – that he cannot work for four months,” said the centre-half who spent last season at West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League. “He has committed an offence, but this ban is barbarity. Not even a criminal would receive this penalty.”

The seven-strong Fifa disciplinary panel had considered 34 camera angles before determining the striker’s guilt, concluding the bite was “deliberate, intentional and without provocation”. Those assertions are still refuted by Suárez, who claimed in a letter written to Fifa in his defence that he had lost his balance and “hit my face against the player, leaving a small bruise and a strong pain in my teeth”. Uruguay have informed Fifa they will appeal the suspension, which would also rule Suárez out of nine Premier League matches and three Champions League games if he remains at Anfield despite reported interest from Barcelona, and have entered the seven-day period allocated to finalise paperwork

Here's an idea, don't go around biting people.

"Not even a criminal would receive this penalty"

Uhh... has he never heard of jail or something? I'd struggle to work / spend time with my mates if I was banged up.

Worstguay keeps on getting worse.

Just in case there's any doubt, here's the BBC story on his statement: Luis Suarez bite: 'I lost my balance and fell on Chiellini'

Damn, lol. At this stage it shows how far down the rabbit hole he and his cohorts are. By now, anyone in a healthy state of mind would own up to it ('it' being the most recent indiscretion), plead clemency and show some remorse, then set about sorting themselves out.

Not doubling down on indefensible rhetoric and hilarious lies (though it's not a lie if you believe it, right?)

WTF.

HE BIT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING YOU IDIOT! A grown ass man bit some guy. And he has done it before. If anything the ban is lenient.

Lets be honest, if Suarez had never came to England he wouldn't be getting punished this harshly even if it is his third time biting someone. Dude should have gone to Spain or Italy like most other South American players, he wasn't capable of adapting culturally to Western European sporting standards.

Once he goes to Spain, I don't expect to hear a peep of controversy arising from his actions.

wtf is this supposed to mean? And i'm not even talking about not including us in Western Europe. Are you suggesting that we are fucking savages?

This is rather xenophobic.

Yeah, deep down in the south, we bite people all the time. Bring a rifle if you're planning to visit our countries.

What the hell...

I know that others have already jumped on this but... what the hell is this shit? Shameful.

Yeah sorry that was pretty ignorant of me, I meant North Western Europe to be more correct.

I love that he think that the only problem is with the geography here.

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if they (the people defending Suarez's actions) talked/insulted themselves into a team ban for the next world cup.

Even alluding to a World Cup ban only supports the argument that this is being blown out of proportion, it's completely ridiculous.

Actually it's pretty easy not to - not everyone voted for him, and not everybody who voted for him knew he was going to act like this regarding a football game.
Yeah, well. I said it's getting hard. Not fuck Uruguay for a reason.

That's from the guy who posts "Fuck <country>" and then acts shocked when people take offense.
HAHA, I'm shocked that people don't get the context in a football thread.

Scratch that, it shouldn't surprise me. Same guys cheering for whole continents.

You're telling me Resident Evil 4 wasn't realistic at all?
You know dude, south Europe is a dangerous place. I'm planning to visit Spain this summer but I'm not sure if i'm gonna be able of adapting culturally to spanish standards. I never fought a bull and they look kinda strong... :(

The president (the bloomin PRESIDENT!) of Uruguay just publically called FIFA a bunch of bitches because of the ban, I'd hardly call this blowing things out of proportion on the side of people wanting the ban. its absolutely crazy to see a leader of a country do something so stupid over a football player being banned due to assaulting another player, if anything its not the people who wanted the player banned blowing things out of proportion - its the people defending the player that are.

Please don't judge us. This country is batshit crazy for the sport but we are actually nice people.
No one with a sane mind does actually judges all of you guys.

I do judge everyone calling this a farce, ridiculous or overblown though. Oh, and your president. That man is fucked up.

I get that, just wanted to bag on you for your condescending reply just above. :p

That said, club football is not the same as a World Cup. Like it or not these teams represent their countries so it's not on the same level and it's not smart to ignore that.

And on this topic, the punishment is definitely up to debate. Several people, from Uruguay and even opponents, have weighed in with valid points, some think it's overblown while some think it was too lenient.

Their president calling FIFA a bunch of bitches is the best thing Uruguay has done in a long time, regardless of Suarez un-defensible actions. At the end of the day they accepted FIFA's punishment and sent Suarez home, that's the end of it.

Talking about condescending. It is actually pretty smart. It's also the reason people don't get banned for it in the World Cup thread. It's part of the game.

Their president calling FIFA a bunch of bitches is the best thing Uruguay has done in a long time,
uhh, that's the best Uruguay has done in a long time?

Mujica is the real deal but he needs a PR guy.

I jjust wanna point out that you are a damn idiot and I wonder why arent you banned?

If I had bitten three people on three separate occasions I'd be sectioned under the mental health act.

The fact he bit someone in an extremely competitive environment doesn't excuse it. Clearly there is something mentally wrong with this chap if the only way he can express himself is with such a grotesque, savage, feral action..

Probably because we dumb savages from the south are to stupid to report him.

#satire

This guy is representing a whole country. It's getting very hard to not condemn the country Uruguay.
I'm actually flabbergasted by this post. Do you actually think that, in the grand scheme of things, anyone is going to evaluate a man's presidency based on comments he made about a fucking sporting organization? Jose Mujica is, in many ways, an excellent president.

You should applaud the fact that I'm even able to write. Let alone that english is my third language. Grunting and Neanderthal the first and second.

See my post above. If a president can use hyperbole I should be allowed too.

Now I'm scared to leave our primitive country. Developed people could eat me if I don't meet their cultural standards.

Please guys I don't taste like pizza! :(

The fact that in his letter, Suarez doesn't apologize and in fact LIES about his biting ways tells me that 1. He has learned nothing, and that 2. He will do this again if he thinks he can get away with it.
