Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

its just GAF hyperbole, the people in this place have a tendency to whip themselves into an unhealthy HYPE frenzy, try not to engage the zealots, you should be alright
You're just lucky that no one's started a GAF Hype Train image yet - that's when you know the thread has gone Full Retard.

Welcome Datto!

Did you look at your Youtube traffic and see that a massive chunk of your hits came from GAF and, in particular, this thread? :)

Datto? TEH Datto? I love watching your videos. Awesome to have you here! :D

I have seen a solid amount of GAF hits, very glad to know people here like my videos. Definitely will try to stay active on the Destiny threads now that I can...well, actually say things. And thanks Tekku. :]

I think they're saving the HYPE train, Sub and Spaceship for the review and OT threads, it would be funny at first then, then it would very quickly become really sad.

I can only imagine how much of an increase of crazyness is going to occur in the Destiny Beta thread, with the Xbox players finally being able to get their hands on the game.

Welcome to the Hype Train, I shall be your conductor.

Your Raid mechanics video was very well done and hopefully will get people who are MMO-shy to understand just how the end game content will need to be organised.

Just watched like four vids in a row earlier. Nice stuff, man! Really like the way don't put annoying music in your vids. :D

The traders and classes vids were very well made, with actual numbers to boot, too.

Has there been any official word/confirmation on the correlation between impact, attack and actual damage? I find it a bit needlessly confusing. I know there are a few different theories out there but I was just wondering if Bungie had commented at all or if there is any conclusive data on the matter.

I logged into my Bungie account and saw a message from RAISHIN asking for my GAF ID sent in Monday. I didn't get any email notifications for messages and didn't realize I was supposed to confirm my GAF account in advance, so apologies for that.

Hopefully I can still get on board.

Bungie hasn't commented officially on it.

My theory, if you or anyone else cares: Attack seems to act like a limiter on what you can deal full damage to. So for example, a weapon with 96 attack will enable you to deal full damage to enemies at a specific level or specific defense rating, which is impossible to figure out right now. I’ve been putting a decimal one spot left of the right most digit, so 96 would be 9.6, so what that would mean (in regards to my theory) is that a weapon with 96 attack rating would deal full damage to enemies at level 9.6 or below. Each weapon has their own damage values based on weapon type, rate of fire and most importantly, impact, which I’m sure is all based on internal algorithms.

Rate of fire tends to have a big influence on damage. I don’t know if anyone picked up the rifle or machine with a rate of fire of 900 during the Alpha, but man that thing had terrible damage. With that rifle, the impact was incredibly low, with the attack being in the 80s. The impact and rate of fire had a much greater effect on the damage dealt, as opposed to the Attack value.

I did get a fully auto rifle with a RoF of 900. It did noticably less damage per bullet but it had something like or 40 or 50 round clip so the damaged added up real quick. The recoil was too much of a hassle though.

This was my general assumption too. Thinking that the attack rating goes against the opponents armor rating as opposed to level based on the 510 attack of Lvl20 weapons matching up with the around 600 armor rating of full FWC Lvl20 Armor. The numbers seem about right. :P

Finally got round to pre-ordering this on the PS store. I've put in a request to join the Gaf group on Bungie's website. PSN i.d is Sleep_All_Day_

Well, since we have Bungie staff reading GAF, maybe urk can leave a comment with a clarification? C'mon urk, it's not any super-secret info... ;-)

My theory would be the "Attack" value is more of a general number to look at to determine the damage output it's capable of.

A more general "pure ideal DPS" type value assuming all bullets/plasma bolts/whatever connected with the target. Like you said the values that go into determining the "attack" value would be the rate of fire, actual bullet damage, and perhaps even something like a reload stat in determining it in a more DPS style. My bet would it be going up against another enemy's hidden "defense" value with the higher level enemies not having a built in mechanic that you can't do "full" damage but more just their innate defense completely outclasses the gun's attack power.

Hey everyone! =D I've been lurking here for years now. I never got to use my account because I could never get it activated, and since I have my own college email now... Well, I got it activated!

I browse many, many gaming sites. I have an account on a few others, but this by far seems like the best community to actually be invested in. Yes I'm aware people may say this site has a share of crap too (I mean, I know. I've been lurking here for years.) This place just happens to be the best place to go to for more genuine discussions. I like gamefaqs too, but for other reasons. The obvious trolls entertain me more than bother me. It's just a bit more difficult to have honest discussions on things there.

Anyway, super glad to be here now! I've kept up with 70% of this extremely long thread, and i'm extremely excited for this game! I didn't get to play the alpha since I only have PS3, but i'm super stoked for the beta.

I never lost hope for this game like a lot of people (imo understandably) did. That's only because I kept up with the info for this game religiously, and I already had a good idea of exactly what the game would be like contrary to what the footage that was previously released led some people to believe. But yeah, imma end this abruptly before this goes on too long.

Welcome to GAF! Stay sane while waiting for the beta!

i like you

welcome to the front lines. will you be able to get a PS4 for the beta?

Thanks! :p

I don't think I'll have a PS4 by then. I probably wont get one until Christmas unless something else compels me to buy it myself (Like No Man's Sky releasing year, maybe?)

Okay GAF, I'm going to try and play The Walking Dead Season 2. Wish me luck...

Disappointment that I'm not playing Destiny incoming.

Edit: God, I'm like 20mins in and I'm already depressed to the point of suicide! The bit with the dog... ;_;

Also tried to plug the headset dongle in the second usb on PS4 and that made it work. Weird, but it works wonderfuly now. The sound is great, for me, since this is my first gaming dedicated headset.

Welcome to the GAF. You'll be pretty welcome into the Cult once you perform the obligatory goat sacrifice on the nearest Equinox.

The DestinyGAF group is separate from the DestinyGAF clan, right? You have to create the clan within the game? Or is that on Bungie.net too?

Clan creation will be through Bungie.net as well I believe. There were no in-game options for it in the Alpha. Everyone had to have a Bungie.net account and apply on the Alpha website.

So will the group be able to create a clan for the beta/retail release?

Trying to gather information for the Beta OT.

I have a feeling clan stuff will be able to be worked with in-game.

At the very least, I'd be willing to bet money on clans being able to be joined, used, etc through the Destiny App. Bungie has put in a decent amount of work on that if the number of Mobile UX Developers/Designers/Leads they've hired is any indicator.

This part I'm not sure of actually. Others have mentioned that Clans will be able to be created within Groups, but I haven't personally seen that information so I can't confirm or deny.

I don't think anyone knows for sure, but it seems likely considering the Alpha had clan support (somewhat) and clan support is big for this game.

But.. there are reasons it might not. Having clans in the beta lets people run through content faster, instabilities in PvP get spread around and used quicker, etc.

So what I'm saying is... MAYBE for Beta, and based off of the urk/DeeJ interview a while back, YES for retail. :P

Ack. Meant to post this on the bottom of my other comment. :l

How did this all work in the Alpha?

By the way, who came up with the DestinyGAF name? Why not simply GAF? Obviously we know what we are playing. It just seems to be a long tag under someone's name.
