PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | July 2014

AFAIK remote download has never been instantaneous on the Vita. Are you giving it enough time to acknowledge the download queue?

Uh, I assumed it was instantaneous, but maybe you're right...! I might be too used to the PS4 where it starts right away...! How long do you have to wait until a remote download starts, more or less?

EDIT: ...and not I get an infinite loading in my browser when I try to remote-download something to the Vita, and nothing gets added to the download queue... Tried in both Chrome and Firefox... Aaand it works fine for PS4 games. I think my Vita is cursed.

I understand that 60fps are important for some genres like racing or twitch shooters, but for a turnbased RPG? ;)

If it's 30fps I could just get the 60fps PS4 version instead and use the 30fps Remote Play to play it on Vita. However, I'd prefer a 60fps native Vita version. The art style really lends itself well to 60fps, just like the other Ubiart Framework games. Honestly, a lot of games don't look very good at 30fps unless they have motion blur, which this game does not have.

ya know what irks me?

i coulda got steamworld dig for ~2$ last week on steam and now I can only get it for ~4$ on psn.

i'd buy it for 2$ on psn... just make it happen. why the confusion.

edit: yes. i'm bitching over two dollars and an "indie" game (regardless if they deserve the money).

bought Child of Light on PS4 :/
guess I should wait on the Vita version (... if only they did some promo for those who own the PS4 version T_T)

omg you're right. It's like I should just be grateful and blindly throw my money at Sony for giving us digital content at overblown prices during their summer sale. Maybe we should both send an email to Steam and tell them to stop spoiling gamers with their understanding of how to push and distribute digital content.

-_-

Wow. You gave me an ideia. I'll complain about the restaurant I like to go have lunch, because their promotions aren't as awesome as those from the restaurant with food I don't really fancy.
Chill man. Why should Sony make big sales the same time as Steam does so, especially when they certainly won't ever be able to compete in prices?

----------

Aaand my Vita decided to stop uploading my saves to the cloud again. Ugh.
Last time it happened is began working again randomly, so I guess I'll just wait (and upload thing manually).

The Vita, like the PS3, will automatically look for the download queue upon booting up fresh, but unlike the PS3 it will also check the download queue in intervals of say ~10 minutes (I'm estimating because that's what it felt like to me, but I'll queue up something now and tell you how long it takes).

Edit: Actually... I think there is an issue with PSN at the moment. It's either being incredibly slow or not responding at all (the web store). So maybe that's the issue?

I just recently bought Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f on the Vita after trying out the demo. What an amazingly delightful game, it's quickly turning me into a fan of the rhythm genre.

You should look into DJMAX Tecknika Tune and Musync for PSM. Both very good rhythm games.

FYI, the PS4 version of DokiDoki is free this month as well. I just added it to my library, though I have no intention of ever playing it. I didn't know it was cross buy. PEACE.

The point isn't that Steam had a better sale than Sony's current sale. The point is that Sony themselves have had random sales throughout this year alone that have been orders of magnitude better than what they are offering in both selection and discount amount during this sale which is being advertised as multiple week long summer sale event. This is one of the weakest sales Sony has had in a long time, and it is their big summer event.

People who're just dipping their toes into music/rhythm games should also look towards Cytus Lambda also on PSM if that wasn't already the case.
I didn't suggest it initially because how many times I've seen people say they didn't enjoy it, but since you can download it for free, people should give it a try anyways.

Go yell at the developer. Also, PSN Sales seemingly have a hard 75% limit. Probably to stop a "Race To The Bottom" situation for ever happening. If the developer wants a lower sales price than just 75%, they need to drop the original value of the game and do 75%.

Meh. If you're dipping your toes in I think you should just go full out and get Tecknica Tune or Miku. Lambda is a bit on the low end of the impressiveness scale.

So, I want to make sure Child of Light is 60fps before I get it on Vita. I wouldn't doubt it but there's no demo for reassurance and somebody in the other thread said it felt like 30fps. Not everybody is good with telling that stuff so I need to hear it from somebody who knows for sure.

It's native res @60fps with very very occasional stutter when it's loading new parts of the level.

The sound breaks up occasionally at the start of battles as well.

Pretty decent port overall.

Cytus is also incredibly lenient with its timing. New rhythm players might like that, but I don't find the game challenging at all.

"Listen to this man" indeed! Thanks for the reasonable explanation, mate.

But I'm not really feeling this thing of "being advertised as multiple week long summer sale event" and "it is their big summer event". Unlike previous big sales, there's no blog post dedicated to it. Not even a mention on the store update post. Just the banner on the store.
I feel like this sale is here "just because" (Steam sale have its influence here), and IF we get some real big summer sale it'll be appropriately marketed*. That's too why I didn't get people freaking out on this weeks' deals.

Yes, I'm talking about SCEA promoting things that aren't the PS4.

Either way, there should be more music/rhythm games in the world. I still have the Stepmania port on PSP loaded up with the setlists of the entire DDR franchise.

Nothing for me this month but I'm debating myself with Child of Light. Is it good? What is the game like? Might download it on the Vita once I have some PSN credit.

The last rhythm game I enjoyed was Technika Tune. Really good game with some catchy songs. I was never a fan of the genre but I remember playing Bust-a-Groove 4 (first rhythm game I played I think) with my cousins when I was young.

Very, very good. I'm loving it. A great RPG, pretty charming.

It feels like I'm doing a disservice to JRPGs not playing this game. :( I think I'm not gonna enjoy it since I don't like the art for some reason. Might pick it up down the line when it goes on sale, whenever that is. Thanks.

The boss fights are really cool and the final cutscene will make you feel like an even bigger badass.

Oh, I beat the final boss months ago when I visited a friend. It was pretty intense. This was after my friend and I played all the old Strider games. Now I'm starting from the very beginning, so I can actually see everything the game has to offer.

I've mentioned it before but the battle system is similar to Grandia 2's action bar. So the battle system and the aesthetic design of the world are aspects of CoL I enjoy, but your mileage may vary when it comes do the dialogue or the gem crafting system.

That said it is one of the more original RPGs in a long while and obviously doesn't fall in to the trap of more recent JRPGs that start to wear thin the tropes or aesthetics that they invoke.

If you enjoy RPGs in general you should consider CoL.

So it's 60 FPS on the Vita? That's all I needed to hear.

Gonna go and pick up my physical copy tomorrow! : D
