If people accused GB of racism for hiring white people, what bout this guy

ongamers seems to be a real shit show.

Thorin might be the most unlikeable character in all of the esports "journalism" field. Everyone's got an anecdote of him being unlikeable, unprofessional, or just a straight out buffoon.

Yeah I don't know how Slasher thought that was going to play, wasn't Chanman also banned? Some mod claiming he had 40 alt accounts?
yeah he came out and said it was just a "marketing experiment"
He also called 2 professional league players "ugly motherfuckers" and spent some minutes mocking how they looked. Thorin is known for being a bit of an ass.

thorin is a massive moron

cyborgmatt is the only person on ongamers worth a mention

I bet you would have said that about any city I named. Its not like I haven't travelled anywhere else in the world (or 'merica for that matter) than Finland and the USA.

Probably because any one area of any country isn't a good representation of it.

Anecdotal, but the only Finnish people I've ever met were two foreign exchange students who lived at my friend's house. They would constantly walk to McDonalds instead eating the meals my friends mother made for them (they didn't like any of the food from our grocery chain?), one of them was suspended for getting into a fight with another exchange student, and they both were sent home early when the same one was caught with a hash pipe at school.

Travis Gafford (sp?) does good interviews during the LCS. He tends to focus on the personality of the players though so his content is mostly joking around and fluff rather than in depth questions.

They sound like idiots.

Oh I know him from some stuff he did at the international last year. It was okay. I don't know much about him though.

Consider me another one in the camp of 'I didn't know Africa was involved in WWII''
but on my defence, I hated history in School and don't have any knowledge on many historical happenings.
Jesus. So, do none of these things ring a bell?

  • The elite German Afrika Korps?
  • Field Marshal Erwin Rommel? (Often referred to as The Desert Fox?)
  • General George S Patton, or perhaps his capture of Casablanca?
  • El Alamein?
  • Tobruk?
  • The Rat Patrol, maybe? (IN COLOR!)
That shit has been all over TV, movies, and video games. Even if you slept through history class, it hard to believe you could be completely oblivious of those famous desert campaigns and their leaders.

You've heard of... Hitler, right?

Watched that promo package and holey moley that looks dumb... but entertaining. I'd tentatively say i'd like to see more.

I just caught this. Whatever happened to the ability to see who quoted your posts? Did they remove it?

Anyway, yeah, it's the best kind of dumb out there as far as I'm concerned.

Here's some more classic promo packages.

Money in the Bank 2011 - John Cena vs CM Punk

Wrestlemania X9 - Vince McMahon vs Hulk Hogan (The match ended up being WAY better than it had any right being)

Wrestlemania X7 - Stone Cole Steve Austin vs The Rock

I think it is weird that people still react strongly to Jeff Gerstmann giving Twilight Princess 8,8 8 years ago. Imagine how I feel about people that wont shut up about 75 year old war.

Classy post. I'm glad he kept it focused on the abuse and didn't even entertain the notion of discussing the hires.

The obvious complaint to make here is that Jeff sympathized with the critics getting harassed, but did not reference the critique those critics originally had. It leaves the door open for more criticism based on the original complaint and thus another flare up could occur. Hopefully that will not happen.

Well, he said they appreciate the criticism. I mean, he's not going to come out and say "sorry for hiring two white guys."

As someone who actively wanted the diversity discussion to happen, I'm fine with Jeff not speaking about the criticism in detail. Sure GB could use a bit of diversity or whatever, but the biggest issue here is the rape threats and other miscellaneous bits of hate speech. I think we need to address that before we can move on to more civil topics of discussion.

I kind of am super interested in hearing him directly address their criticisms/concerns people displayed prior to shit getting ugly, though

even though I really don't expect it to happen for corporate reasons

Why should he? There's no reason why get needs to touch on that part of it. He said what he needed to.

It's a well written letter, its sad that it had to be said out loud like that.. but good on them for coming right and saying that those people will not be allowed.

It's not just about corporate. When you're the boss, you lead with action. You don't do something then pussy around by offering excuses for your decision making (right or wrong), especially when it could be perceived as not having your employee's back.

If he thinks there is a wrong to right, then he should take the heat temporarily, then follow up with more action - i.e. making more diverse hires down the line (when given the budget) or doing more to give minorities and women airtime on the site and support from the community.

Nobody likes a self-doubting, fearful boss.

if any of the paperwork on the hiring process I've gone through is like what they're experiencing, it'll be years before this situation can be talked about publicly.

There is absolutely nothing that he can say that wouldn't be picked apart to death and start this whole thing again

I am not saying he could have done any better with what he wrote, as there is simply no single response that could alleviate the problems certain people currently have with the site. I just believe Jeff's current stance (based on the letter) makes it easy for all parties involved to slip back into the mode they were in yesterday, but hopefully cooler heads will prevail

Good point well made. I think I'm curious just because I wanna skip to the part where we see those decisions being potentially made.

Change is addictive.

He certainly doesn't "need" to address people's concerns (and, again, what so many people seem to miss is that it isn't that big a deal to most of us hoping for a bit more diversity on the site), but some of their most passionate fans did have reasonable questions about the choices. But, again, it really isn't particularly important to me and I love the site just as much as I did a week ago.

Posts like these scare the shit out of me. All I hear in my head is "Doomed to repeat it, doomed to repeat it...."

It's one of the things Ryan was also really, really good at. It sucks that he's gone. Still waiting for that god of war ascension review, big guy : /

No question. I also very much enjoy Brad and Alex when they are writing (I want Guns of Navarro back!) It's a shame that the only regular written content is solely from Patrick.
