I thought her comments were poor, but let's not pretend she or anyone in this mess got attacked and harassed because the internet mass would like dissenting opinions to be a little bit more cogent or constructive. She got harassed primarily because she is a woman.

I am not understanding where the controversy is even coming from. All i have gathered so far is the two guys they just hired are white.....that's it? Really? Holy goddamn shit batman! Unless there is something else going on....damn

Valid discussion about diversity in game journalism occured then was quickly swept away by assholes on the internet and death/rape threats, etc.

I'm pretty sure that literally no one accused anyone of being a misogynist and it really bugs me when people conflate a general preference for more diversity with accusations of willful sexism.

While I'm not 100% sure what happened, some people took offence to the fact that the new hires were two straight, white males. Now, in a sane and rational world, the two sides would of had a rational debate where both sides would have given their arguments, and something resembling a consensus would be reached. This being the internet however, the parts of the internet that we would like to ignore (this is the best example that I can find) found this, and decided to be absolute scumbags to the people that took fault in the hirings. As a result of this, the two sides ended up shouting at one another, and things became an incredibly toxic mess, where everyone ended up looking like intolerant assholes, and nothing of note was accomplished again.

Just a small note, but the moment you start to disassociate yourself with another group of people and grant them the label of something so absolute as pure evil is the moment when any empathy and hope for understanding is thrown out the window. I'm not saying you should be defending their actions or anything of the sort, but that the mentality will get in the way of finding the common ground needed to affect change where we need it most. At least that's my opinion. Same goes for people calling out other online communities for being this or that when, obviously, they're made up of individuals.

Your best bet when searching for specific videos on the site is searching for that specific game, and then clicking on the "videos" section in the Wiki. They're usually good with tagging those videos. The example here: http://www.giantbomb.com/lunar-flight/3030-37961/videos/.

But yeah, the search function on the site has been bad since day 1. I usually use Google myself.

I think this is pretty funny.
But they really should try playing LoL for lols. It's really funny when Dota players are playing LoL like their game and lose to bots.
 
Watched the Sniper Elite video. I like Dan. That laugh is infectious as heck.
Looking forward to more content from the new guys.

I'd like to see Brad play league. I can vaguely imagine what he might criticize, but it would be cool if he gives it a fair chance. Though like Dota you need to invest some time to understand, instead of making comments after a one off set of games. He's definitely not gonna like the runes/masteries system considering his account isn't leveled in all likelihood.
 
I think that most of what happened in the last two days was just crazy. But... I'm for once a bit disappointed by the choice. Not because they hired "two white male men", instead of a woman, just because they hired people very similar to themselves, they mostly hired "dudes".
I want my entertainement to be "diversified", in the sense that I enjoy listening to people coming from different perspective interacting with each other. It doesn't mean that the new hires shouldn't be male or white, though. Someone in the thread suggested that they should have hired Chris Remo. That's a guy I would have enjoyed sitting though the Sniper Elite II Quick Look alongside Jeff!

Natually what they did it's totally in their right and was somewhat to be expected. Also Jeff probably has bigger plans and better knows who to hire. It' not that they owe me nothing.

-Giant Bomb hired new 2 people (Dan Ryckert and Jason Oesterreicher), who are both white males
-Some folks on the internet were a bit disappointed since they hoped for more diversity
-Than Reddit reddited and a bunch of assholes attacked those people "in the name of Giantbomb"

I know it was not a candidate for the job. I phrased that statement not in the correct manner. I meant to say that they could have hired someone "like" Chris Remo, someone relatable but bringing a substantial difference in perspective.
Even Brad and Jeff are different enough. The last Sniper III QL seemed an echo chamber.

I'd say Chris Remo's perspective is similar to Patrick's.

Jeff, Brad, Vinny, Alex, and Patrick all seem to give stealth a fair shake now and then. They just almost never play the games to completion. And when they do, it's either flavor of the month darling stuff they enjoy almost in spite of the stealth, (TLoU, Mark of the Ninja, Dishonored) or outright disappointing games (Absolution, Thi4f). And it rarely gets any decent amount of discussion on the podcast.

I would love for Giant Bomb to have a true stealth fan someday. Someone who knows the likes of Thief 2 and Chaos Theory inside and out.
