The cap I think is likely 20, and they have a system in the game that dictates what your item level (a la FFXIV) is after that.
I don't think motes of light will determine level after 20.It can be used for currency to purchase cloaks/emblems from the speaker in the alpha right? Currency related item being attached to level progression would not make sense. I say motes of light can only be obtained lets say when you fill up your exp bar when you are at level cap, or by some other difficult means. Can't be easy to get.
Here is my hypothesis. So in the alpha you could see some of the legendary items that were available. You'll notice a stat in there called Light. Only armor had them, not weapons. Lvl 20 gear is the only one that had that specific stat as far as I've seen. So based on that its a stat that comes into play once you are at the level cap. The higher the total amount of light you have the higher your so called item level. Hardcap on "item" level my guess is 30.
Endgame content and higher levels of strikes will be gated to the so called "item" level, so one can't just attempt to do a really high one and get carried. Lets say a strike with a difficulty that is gated at lvl 26, then you need to be say within 3 lvls of to attempt it. Only way to attempt harder endgame content is to get better gear. Who knows where the raid falls into all of this. Haven't thought that far
What do you guys think?
When GameInformer did their cover feature on Destiny, it was mentioned that each focus could be leveled individually. It wasn't entirely clear to me how the leveling system interacted with the one focus available for each class in the Alpha. For progression purposes, our overall level can't be reset when changing focus because it would invalidate held gear. However, leveling up did unlock additional abilites deeper in the focus progression.
Maybe the leveling will continue as each focus is grown. Maybe you'll need Light to improve secondary or tertiary foci. Maybe when leveling up, it unlocks the same ability slot in all of a character's foci at once. Can anyone clarify?
