Anyway, Im not black and as a mexican I've never felt discriminated against much. Although I always get a vague feeling that a quite a few sorority girls are racist and one of my friends in a sorority agrees.
I did go through a somewhat similar situation. I dated this one girl a short time ago and we were supposed to go see Iron Man at this movie theater by the mall. The area isnt the best but its no ghetto. So we were in line waiting to get tickets and she grabs my arm and she tells me shes not all that comfortable. I ask why and she tells me its because there were gangsters there. I look around and see some black kids standing around. They must have been around 17-20 years old and wore long loose shirts and baggy pants. They may have been punks but most certainly not some thugs. I told her they were just some dudes hanging out but she urged to go to another movie theater. It took us like 2 hours to find a movie theater that we could get tickets for Iron Man. She bitched about the goddamn ride.
Since then, I noticed that she was always uneasy around groups of black people. I asked her about it and made fun her saying I had forgotten she was a very white girl. She told me it was strange because she used to live in a ghetto but got out and that being uncomfortable around black people was something new to her. I think that was complete bullshit. One time, she seriously asked me not to get her pregnant and said that mexican semen must really swim because theres so many mexican girls that get pregnant. Were no longer dating

Serious answer: Maybe the racist is slowly coming to see people as individuals instead of representatives of a race. Racism doesn't happen overnight, nor does it dissolve overnight. Finding a friend or romantic partner in a despised group can have a profound effect on the racist. There may still be some compartmentalization ("Oh, you're nice, you're not like the others"), but it is a first and very important step. I don't believe that "un-racism" can be taught. Instead it grows naturally out of interactions with the despised or feared other.

That's really neither here nor there. Besides, for what it's worth, I really liked her, even after that happened. The whole thing was just a kind of a wedge that stopped me just short of dropping an 'L' bomb.

A person with a racist backgrounds and views doesn't really make her racist, but yeah bailing out is about all you can do.

When she found out I wasn't she freaked out, and then the girl pulled the he is half, and he isn't black black.. wtf..

Some women, and men, need to use us lighter skinned black men as "Intro To Blackness 101". I've always tried to use it as an opportunity to break down whatever ideas they've have instilled in them of how the majority of blacks live. Even if it's not for me, maybe for the next guy.

I dated an Indian girl who's parents weren't too fond of the "dating a Black guy" thing, but it was more of a religious thing (read: I'm not Hindu) than it was a race thing.
But she was just a 'round the way girl anyway, it's not like it was serious. I would never date and get attached with a girl that has intentionally racist relatives. Why date or marry into a family like that?
On a separate note, I've never dated a "Tee hee, I like light skinned Black guys cuz they're not icky and dark" girls. Despite being light skinned myself, I take serious offense to that mentality.

It's paraphrased, but all those points are points she touched on, except the hive-mind thing. That's inference on my part. And yeah, she does have kids out of wed-lock, but she also has some issues with hating herself, so it didn't strike me as that odd.
Ah. Well, I'm not always the most sensible guy, and if I like somebody a whole lot it seems like bailing out looks like less and less of an option, even though it always is one.

Perhaps a different kind of pain since I'm white, but I'm also Jewish, and you can't believe how many quick looks and sybilline sentences I've had to go through when dating a Christian girl, but luckly it's never been blatant enough to make me bail out like Road Runner.
I could bear that, but certainly it wasn't comfortable. If there's one thing my family teached me is tolerance and hatred towards all kinds of racism, and I would NEVER date a blatanttly racist person, or coming from a blatantly racist family

I'm a white guy but I dated a black girl who's parents and grandparents were/are racist. The one time I went to dinner at her house, her grandpa called me the white devil because I said I was going to college. Apparently to her grandfather an education makes you the devil.

Can't say I dated a racist ever, got hints of prejudice with one of my highschool gf's though. She mentioned how she thought I was mean and unapproachable, possibly thuggish(her words)...yet I spent most of my highschool years wearing button ups and eddie bauer sweaters while taking honors classes, but ah well.
