You can play this game with every team here:

Argentina beat no team with a GD higher than one, very unconvincing games during the entire tournament. Until today's game Messi was the only good player.

Brazil had the ref on their side against Croatia, sucked against Mexico, sucked against Chile and did a shameful hackjob yesterday with about 30 fouls. With a competent ref they'd miss more than two players against Germany.

Netherlands started impressive, but only won during regular time because of a wrongly given Penalty Kick against Mexico and even though they were the much better team today they were only one choking keeper away from Elimination.

See, it's very easy to make it seem like none of the teams even deserve to be in semis, stop being salty :lol

what? so brazil "sucked" againts chile and mexico........there is no other way to interpret those matches.
wait, maybe mexico and chile are good teams.
gasp.

The amount of assaults players like Robben have to endure is sickening. Diving is also a form of protection, their career is basically cut short if they don't do it.

Today he didn't dive at all which means he was badly fouled at least 4 times.

Argentina in 1990?

true, though 1990 was notoriously defensive, has the worst goals to game ratio of any World Cup. led to banning of the back pass, 3 points per win, modified interpretation of offside law, etc. less of an Argentina issue, more just a general defensiveness across the board (ie. every team was failing to score and thus making penalty shootouts inevitable).

We have good replacements for Di Maria (Enzo Perez -that did a good match today-, Augusto Fernandez and Riki Alvarez). The only one that we can´t sub is Messi.

Of course we'll miss him tho.

Because they don't deserve it. Honest answer.

And I'm German.
Every team of the remaining four had its highs and lows in the tournament its not like one was dominating every match so they deserved to win cup.

The German football team (MANNSCHAFT v4.1) are a bunch of animatronic dudes who have no passion or lives and feel no emotion.
Germans are known for the their composure and straight forward attitude

I've been pretty welcoming to all opinions and discussion so far, and I think Holland's winn was very deserved, but this "CRC showed poor sportsmanship" / "anti-football" shit does get to me. At least what seems to me to be most of the posters here seem to disagree with such views.

So proud of my team. They'll be welcomed like heroes, and their achievement will be remembered for years/decades to come.

Also, I can't wait to see where Navas will land after this.

Costa Rica was objectively better at doing what they were supposed to do than Netherlands. It all came down to luck in the end, and you guys lost.

It's a shame, but you guys did a great job in the WC. It was a great pleasure watching you guys kick three terrible teams out early.

As a neutral, Argentina has a slight advantage of winning the WC from the remaining teams. It has the most quality, yes even with Di Maria out. Their biggest issue is their GK in comparison to the other three teams. Still 4 quality sides, any of them could win it.

They stalled for 120 minutes so they could go through on PK's. Which didn't even fucking work!

They could have actually tried playing the game and scoring a goal and go through. Their strategy sucked, their strategy failed, their strategy made the game frustrating and boring to look at for everyone involved and ultimately their strategy is just damn poor sportmanship, because who in the hell plays to lose?
They played to their strength and lost, that's what you and others are not getting. Didn't you see the CRC coach pumping fists when it went to the PKs?

CRC thought the only way they could've won this match was PKs and it definitely looked that way, NED was a class above.

Colombia was worse in this regard, though.
Nope.

Yeah, sure. We're the ones who broke another player's back.
You're saying that like it was planned lol. Look up how many fouls your side did in the whole game and also look at the first half again.

Brazil reaped what they sewed in that game

Not that it lets Colombia off the hook.
This, so much.

Same here. it's s the only irritating thing for me too but I guess I should expect it.
Costa Rica is happy, and I can't wait to go back to Naranjo later this year and see my family.

I think it's mostly people that watch football as spectators. They want to see an open game going back to back for spectacle.

True football fans will appreciate the effort and discipline that CRC put in tonight.

Against a overwhelming opponent they held out till the bitter end and could have even won in the 116 minute.

i think that comes from people that are new to football. sometimes it's the only play style to achieve things with a limited squad. costa rica doesnt even come close to netherlands in player quality, so they played their game (which is fair) and took it as far as they could.

This, so much.

All I could see in the first half was complete Brazilian domination and Colombian players flopping all around at the slightest touch ;)

But, whatever.

Ironically being held in the country of Catenaccio.

I rooted for Italy in 2006 and 2012

But that was the worst world cup I have ever seen.

In this match with CR, I wholeheartedly agree. CR got sloppy and dirty. Every foul called on Robben by CR defenders was just. You can argue about rep but Robben has been world class this tourney and CR knew that.

He did, not mad at all, I actually wanted mexico out and Arg vs NL on semis.
Actually laughing at your post at this moment, seems hard to accept for you. We played better than we did against Mexico today and against Argentina we will be able to execute those sweet sweet counters we used to destroy Spain. See you Wednesday.

Bad luck mate. What a tournament for you guys though.

If people were expecting Costa Rica to go out there and out-pass Netherlands then it's their fault.

The difference in quality in the 2 teams is huge. The only way Costa Rica can get a result is through extreme discipline, concentration and hard work. They did it all very well, if their attackers did better on those few occasions going forward then who knows, they could have been celebrating now.

Teams that defend/work hard >> Teams that go out to injure players, like Honduras at this WC.

also, it's not like Costa Rica only played minnows throughout the tournament and they got here via a favorable draw and some penalty shootout luck. won against Uruguay and Italy, drew England (in a meaningless game). that was a brutal group and no one would have expected them to qualify, let alone finish top.

Too bad Portugal got whooped in goal differentials. They could have had USA's spot in G2 and could have met up with Netherlands in the Semi.

What? They put a double decker in front of the goal.

Can't say that I blame them though. They had a strategy and were pretty disciplined in the execution.

No - for "park the bus" see a team not willing to try and attack - tired boring cliche these days for a team that sites on the counter.
