Why the fuck is Costa Rica all of a sudden the anti-football team? For trying to play to their strengths against an obviously superior team or by applying defensive tactics when the team was down a man against Greece? Fuck off!

They played really well during the first round against three strong teams and they didn't need to park the bus. Obviously Netherlands is a different beast and they knew it. Give a little credit to a country that probably has like 1/20 of the resources for their teams that the dutch have.

Yeah, I'm not sure why CR's gameplan seems to rustle so many feathers. I guess many would prefer CR just adopt a losing strategy.

here's the remaining teams placed in order of them deserving your support:

1. brazil (aka the gentleman and scholar tier)
2. argentina
3. netherlands
4. germany (aka hates all things good in life tier)
Brazil, gentleman?

Haha, they're the thugs of this tournament topping even Uruguay's Suarez.

I don't understand how a supporter of a European team could root for Germany, like why?

I would never ever support Spain, just because they border my native land doesn't mean I automatically gravitated my support towards them, they are our rivals. Hate is more powerful than geographical proximity

I'm Dutch, but if we don't reach the final, and Germany does, I'm rooting for Germany. I think they have a great team, and I have a couple of German friends who I would know would be ecstatic.

Well, for example, they have a number of players from Arsenal in their national team.

That alone is a reason why non-Germans may support them.

You think after 1974 Netherlands would allow any other country to beat us in finals? You're delusional, delusional I say :p

I have to say, that was a great shootout though. Solid penalties all round, and no chokers. Even the penalties by Costa Rica that were saved weren't bad by any stretch of the imagination.

All-out defending doesn't look attractive, also not for me, but even I think the negative reactions towards this were exaggerated. CR did defend well and gave NL some serious trouble. So also kudos to them.

Aiii

So not worth it

They stalled for 120 minutes so they could go through on PK's. Which didn't even fucking work!

They could have actually tried playing the game and scoring a goal and go through. Their strategy sucked, their strategy failed, their strategy made the game frustrating and boring to look at for everyone involved and ultimately their strategy is just damn poor sportmanship, because who in the hell plays to lose?

Him and Messi.
Yeah Robben is a champ. I love the hate, especially this match because he got fouled so many times. The calls of 'diving' just fail to ring true when you see all the slow mo replays of the legit fouls.

They did though at the end when they finally started attacking more.

There was one counter from Costa Rico that was extremely dangerous. The managed to get all the way in to our box (right side). And they managed to get a shot of on goal. Luckily Cillessen managed to keep the goal as small as possible and force the diagonal angle shot, but that was dangerous nonetheless. Second halve had some counters with potential, with the difference of slipping through and being stopped being quite close.

Also, I don't see why anyone would hold anything against this German team. They're a fine team that plays a relatively clean game. Unlike the team of butchers that is Brazil for instance, the Colombia match was ridiculous.

Schweinsteiger's a thug, Müller a first class diver, Neuer's a jerk.

And over the past few years they've become incredibly more and more boring to watch. It's like a bad mix of Spain and Italy at their worst.

poor sportsmanship is Krul's pathetic antics during the shootout. Costa Rica's tactics were pragmatic and maximized their chances of winning, which were otherwise very low.

Calmed down a bit from the match now, I get that Costa Rica played to their strengths of course, but good god, this match was even more boring to watch than NL - Chile (where it was clearly due to NL that it was so boring). In general the quarter finals were pretty damn disappointing (Brazil-Colombia was entertaining, but way too brutal), hope the semis have more to offer.

It's too soon for revisionist history, give it a week at least.

I agree. Brazil uses the dirty play and dives like a lot of teams out there. Neymar and Fernandinho should got the second yellow against Chile.

But they are good guys when the match is over. David Luiz and Thiago Silva are gentlemen indeed.

By my recollection there was only one time where he straight-up dove. Almost zero contact.

For the other incidents he usually embellished to varying degrees. I think that's kinda shitty, but it's not diving.

So? You act like the Netherlands were helpless against such a strategy. They could have SCORED you know. Do you feel CR did something unfair?

If diving bothers you that much you shouldn't watch football period.

I agree that Robben is one of the worst but the difference between him and the average player is not that much. It's sadly something that's learned and encouraged.

Who the hell played to lose? They tried going forward from the beginning, but the Netherlands' class ended up overwhelming them and there's not much they could do about it.

We are still a country that has a long road ahead of us in international football to find some consistency, it is expected that we would not be able to match the intensity of every team in the WC, specially one with so many weapons. They still created a couple of chances and weren't awarded two clear penalties. Story could have been different despite all of our team's shortcomings.

C.R. tactics are completely justified and its about the same shit we pulled against Spain 4 years ago.

They could've won with pens like they did against Greece. It was a gamble I would also make.

And sadly diving makes the difference between winning and loosing.
