Nintendo Downloads - July 2014

Yep:

This is the European version of the game, which was originally optimised by the developer to play music at a speed similar to the US version. Gameplay, demos and animations run at PAL speed. The aspect ratio has been corrected for this release.

praise the lawd, finally

So with Pop 'n Twinbee we finally reached a game that got its rating in December. Rainbow Bell Adventures and Dracula X up next?

DAMN, Europe, you get not only both NES Remix games discount & freakin' Pokemon TGC on Virtual Console, but Pop'n Twinbee as well?! Man, I sure hope those come to the US, especially those VC titles.

Great! Thanks so much for the response.

(I'm guessing by 'tomorrow', you mean the 7th?)

Yep, they should be available today. We might even find out gold/plat rewards today.

Will try out the Jett Rocket demo, and if it's any good I'll take advantage of the discount on the full game.

Wondering whether to grab both NES Remix games while there's an offer on.

I've really enjoyed both, esp. the first one (even though I prefer the games in the second one better, the games in the first lend themselves much better to a remix.)

Man, 50hz "optimised" for games with entire screen scrolling, such as shooters like Twinbee, are really jarringly jerky. It's that same thing people moaned about with Mario Kart 8, but exclusive to EU gamers.

It kills my enthusiasm for any possible Padodius release. Why Konami couldn't you release these in America 20 years ago so there was a US version instead of a "optimised by the developer to play music at a speed similar to the US version" version (which btw, on the SNES means doing bugger all).

3,000 yen I think, or about $30.
The real NES remix anomaly is the European prices. €10 rather than €15 but I like to put that down to the poor performance of the NES outside of America and Japan (now it was Commodore 64 remix though...).
And America complains about not getting a $3 Pullblox discount

So getting NES Remix for £8.99 and then NES Remix 2 for £6.29 is just under the equivalent price in Yen. Hmmm - there's probably no likelihood of us getting a physical package with both games like Japan did, is there?

Ugh, because giving us the choice between the Japanese or European version of Twinbee would be so difficult wouldn't it...

Have never played the Pokemon TCG, not even in digital form. Does the GBC game teach well?

I'd never played any collectable card game (Pokémon, Magic, anything), before getting Pokémon TCG when it came out for GBC, and I did fine with it.

It's a great game. Really wish we had some sequels for it.

There actually is a sequel for the Pokemon TCG. Called Pokémon Card GB2: Great Rocket-Dan Sanjō! for the GBC as well. Released in Japan only in 2001. Included everything from first game, improvements (like can choose gender), updated cards with the 4th set, the Rocket set. Even apparently uses Team Rocket as like the main enemy or so.

I would so love to see it released on VC translated.

A...Pokémon game for the VC?

You know the implications of this, right?

Yeah more Pokémon Spin-off games, the main series are never getting a virtual console release.

NintendoLife says that it's the PAL version. :(

Welp looks like I am not getting it then, will not support them giving us the 50Hz version.

It's not all good news in Europe, we still don't have Shovel Knight and Pop'n Twinbee is the lame 50Hz version instead of the superior 60Hz version.

Choice would always be better, of course, but I wonder if that would come at additional costs for them. Would they need to get a second rating for a different version? Seeing how empty some of the VC Miiverse communities are, the sales for the lesser known titles can't be all that high.

fixed.

Don't now about PEGI, but with the USK they wouldn't, since the content of the game would be identical.

Capcom going all in with GBA VC, it seems. Thread worthy? XD

Is anything new from that list? I already got Metal Torrent a while ago and already own Kid Icarus. It feels like I'll never get rid of my points at this rate.

Edit: Ah, looked it up, that was already over a year ago, but it seems there's some kind of inflation at work here. Last time it was only 150 coins.

Is it any good? I'm glad they're also releasing the more obscure stuff, even if it might not be a game for me in this case.

Paper Mario (N64) is listed as a Club Nintendo coin reward. It's also listed as "Wii/Wii U". Does this mean it's natively playable as a Wii U VC title, or will they listed Wii U even if it's only playable in Wii mode?

Trying to ascertain whether we finally have an N64 title on the Wii U VC

It'll play on the Wii U through vWii

Pretty much all Wii VC games are now listed as Wii/Wii U since they can be played on a Wii U as well.
If it says Wii/Wii U though, it means it's playable on the Wii U in Wii-only mode.

Grabbed Kid Icarus.

I kind of want Paper Mario but have no interest in re playing it right now.

It's just hard to pass up n64 games sometimes.

Likewise codes for native Wii U VC (like DKJr this week) can't be redeemed on a Wii or in Wii mode. Kinda sucks that they won't offer codes for both systems.

Is Etrian Odyssey IV worth it for $20? How about the remake of the first EO? Never played any in the series but I can appreciate a good RPG.

Though I noticed Amazon is selling EO4 for $24. I love having all of my games on a SD card but the thought of being able to resell is tempting...

If you like dungeon crawlers, the remake of the first EO is probably worth your time. You can even choose between story mode and classic mode (in case you're not interested in silly characters speaking silly lines). I specially like the fact that the game doesn't want you to lose your progress: if you suddenly come across a stronger foe and die while exploring the dungeon, you get another chance, so you can go back to the city and save. In case you're a hardcore player, maybe you won't like this feature (I don't know if it can be turned off), but it's great for a guy like me who has little time available for games.

I like the game a lot, but just like any dungeon crawler, it can get a bit repetitive after a few hours. Also, I've heard many people say EO4 is better.
