Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 9: F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 F5

My bro got a Wii U, I must say people really exaggerated the "gamepad is uncomfortable!"

Honestly felt as a legit controller. Maybe the tablet shape made people perceive it as a tablet and thus made it feel uncomfortable for them?

Gamepad really doesn't feel any different than a "regular" to me. Reading the criticisms of many NeoGAF(!) users I feel like they've never even seen one. I've seen far too many posts here where the users clearly didn't know that the gamepad in fact has just as many buttons as a regular PS4 or Xbox One controller.

Shit's crazy...

I really like the Wii Classic Controller. As in the original one for the Wii. The ZL/ZR buttons are kind of a pain though, but it's great for retro gaming.

Also I found a funny Miiverse thread on Smashboards that has some gems.

Yeah, glad to finally get a cool pic. I hope her upsmash has no lag and either a ton of knock back or very little. The most busted stuff we have the better.

finally a good POTD. Do you guys think this confirms Heavenly Light as a standard special?
I don't think today's pic confirms it either way. Text doesn't really specify. On it's own, it seems possible for it to be neutral or down special. I can't remember the others we've seen, but with that context it probably looks like it's a neutral special.

"Don't think about! You are authorized to remove him!"

Lol. So great, Mino.

The controller's alright. I just don't like how the shoulder buttons are placed. It feels a bit awkward to press them. The buttons on the back of the gamepad are in a pretty good spot though. But I definitely prefer the Xbox and Playstation controllers over it just because they feel more comfortable to hold

The gamepad is pretty great. Really comfortable, great sticks, great dpad.

My only complain about the thing itself is the clickable sticks. It's cool to have them there, but clicking them doesn't feel good. It feels like I have to force it. This doesn't seem to be much of an issue in Nintendo games though; I'm not even sure if any use it. Annoying in Zombi, at least.

The other complaint I could throw at it is moreso the fault of the games, not the controller. I hate when the picture and sound from the television is just repeated on the pad. It's really distracting and annoying. Afaik most of the time you can turn it off though.

Gamepad's shoulder buttons are the problem. You really have to stretch to go from ZR/ZL to get to R/L. I have big hands so it isn't that much of a problem for me, but I can imagine someone with smaller hands having a harder time reaching them.

That up smash better have shit knockback or no vertical knockback.
So I might have been the only one OCD enough to notice this but I reeeally like how Smash 4 brings the return of Smash 64's flash effect for fastfalling. I made a gif. I love little details like this... plus it's just kinda nice to have a visual cue for fastfalling.

That was always there? I don't remember it being gone in Melee/Brawl.

EDIT: It is gone in those 2 games. Must have misremembered it. Glad they are bringing it back.

Best horizontal knockback in the game, fueled by the power of Sheik's arrows of light :P

Except that it has been wrong before.
He never mentioned Rosalina.
The first post said we'd get 6 newcomers at E3 2013. We got 3. Little Mac later in a Direct and the remaining 2 in this year's E3. People seem to like to ignore this fact, but it is there.
The second post said "Pokemon from X/Y", but that statement is so ambiguous and I don't believe that it was because of Greninja's development history - if he supposedly can pinpoint Chorus Men, why not Greninja?
Also, do we know for sure he said "Mii Fighter", as a single name, with a capitalized F? Because to me, it seems easy to mistake that with "We're gonna get a Mii fighter", since well, all the characters in this game are fighters. What if he was referring to it like "a fighter from a series"?

The remaining characters (Palutena, Chrom, Shulk) are pretty safe guesses, too, so even these characters being confirmed wouldn't mean to me that the rumor is legit.

If you reach any harder, you might hurt yourself.

Always liked the gamepad as a controller. Very solid.

This reminds me of when folks were still in denial about the lupinko Marvel leak even after Phoenix was revealed. You just dont guess that stuff.

"Pokemon from X/Y" was Greninja's development name. He didn't even have a final design, let alone a name, ready when Sakurai selected him and the team started working.

Eeehhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

So, will Heavenly Light be the first special with a cooldown, or some kind of restriction on it?

Because it'd be quite silly if you can just summon it wherever you go, so you'd continually be forcing your opponents to fight in the field. And that's assuming any other Heavenly Light disappear when you cast it so it cannot stack.

Or maybe Palutena will be the Pheonix of the game. Super easily koable from 40 % on. Who knows.

She has to channel it. Approach her and she will have to drop it.

So what's the verdict? Was the invitational version more unfinished than this one? Or is is implemented but only on certain attacks/characters? Either way, glad to see this back.

After Brawl demo fiasco, I think we shouldn't place so much faith on demo and wait for final version since we don't know what would happens in development between E3 and Release Date.

I believe its only active while you hold down the B button

What was up specifically with Brawl's demo? At that time I wasn't knowledgable enough about these kinds of things so I don't know what people thought of it.

10/10, would read again and recommend. Five stars.

You guys think greninja will appear in future smash bros or is he a one time only deal?

I hope he sticks around. Really, they should keep or try to keep most of the Pokemon they've introduced in the series imo (with the caveat that Ivysaur and Squirtle should get some Rare Candies stat so they can have solo Mega Evolutions and revamps a la Charizard). I can imagine that would be a fairly difficult goal to achieve though given how much changes in a generation between each Smash game.

I am trying to think of any fighting game AOE attack with no cooldown or downside whatsoever.
