Argh! Where do I point my pitchfork?!My bad got them confused. But doesn't excuse the fact he profited from racism.
Fuck, I got Ope-Rolled again.
Yeah, sorry but that just comes across as "Oh, you" style disapproval, not outright denouncement of his bullshit.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVLP-qurBqU
Ant does say racist things on air for jokes all the time, but Jim and Opie still think he's terrible for it, even if they laugh. I laugh too mainly because of how awful he is. It's okay.
Jim: I hate to play the house liberal
Ant: I was gonna say house something else
Jim: *cue jimmy's wheezing laugh*
Jim: Ant is such a hunk of garbage
Opie: You're really not nice
Ant: I know
edit: this was during a discussion on a race topic in which Jimmy wasn't agreeing with Ant
It was getting there, although Ant was as sharp as ever, Opie was basically phoning it in and more or less pouting for the last year.

Penn Jillette talks about it in his podcast. First thing he talks about. It's pretty fair, I guess.
Alright, I've stopped following this thread since I didn't find Anthony saying racist shit as news. But, did I just read that he got fired? If so I'm super surprised, I would never think either O or A could ever be fired for anything.
This is like the third time they've been fired tho
Multiple people in this thread have called Opie a racist based on absolutely nothing, so I'm not ready to agree with that.
I've listened to at least 95% of the content O&A have put on the air since 2010. I maybe miss a day if I'm on vacation and I sometimes skip awful segments, but other than that I listen to every second of every show. I think Opie is racist. Like I said before, not nearly Anthony level racist, but he is.
Oh great now I hate him AND I'm jealous of him.
It's not "spitting in the face of equality." I'm just going by on what happens in reality.
Once that happens, either the man gets slapped hard/beaten down by the woman...
Plus women don't even do such shit to men of what you mentioned.
Also, most men are more physically stronger than women & children are, you got to realize that.
Can you provide an example of anything? And please not a vague reference to Opie saying "those people" in a silly voice. Because I've been listening since 2004 and don't see it at all. Ant's racism, otoh, could not be more blatant.
There aren't specific examples of him dropping the n bomb or whatever. It's a general sense I get from listening to him. The "dip my toes" thing from a few weeks back made the strongest impression on me of any one statement but I don't care enough to go back and find it.
Next time he does anything that stands out to me I'll let you know. I doubt it will be soon since the bad influence is now gone.

There's no reason to be careful about calling Opie or anyone else a racist.
Yeah, Opie spends years working directly with, and profiting from, a racist and his racist listeners, but pj is the one that should "be careful".lol, I'd be careful about calling people things like racist just because you have a "general sense".
Sounds like something a racist would say.
I can tell you've thought this through.
Those twitter comments alone are racist. Anyone attempting to defend them has a clear agenda.
There are few people in this thread who will miss the show and are therefore willing to look the other way. But that does not change how obviously racist his rant was.
I can tell you've thought this through.
Wasn't the O & A contract expiring soon? It's a good way to get publicity and have O&A and Sirius make the news for a "Return of O&A back to Sirius" marketing strategy. I'll believe my conspiracy theory if they're back on the air before Thanksgiving.
Yeah, Opie spends years working directly with, and profiting from, a racist and his racist listeners, but pj is the one that should "be careful".
Fuck off with that bullshit. Anyone worth defending would get a million miles away from Anthony.
Post examples of Opie's racist twitter comments
Again? Waste of time really. If you can't see what's so painfully clear...than I can only suggest you get out there in the real world and gain some life experience.
You can start by going back and reading the thread.
If you want to post a reasonable defense of his posts go for it.

Already been posted. I'm helping you develop an important skill.
Can you guess what it is?
...but i wanted to guess what the important skill was![]()
Did this idiot not think that being racist on twitter is career suicide? How did he manage to score a 3 million dollar salary being this stupid?
Apparently braille

agrajag said:nah, bro, you're the asshole for slinging these monstrous accusations around. Don't you know you can get poor Opie fired by posting on NeoGAF?
FiggyCal said:Contract negotiation was going to be in October. I think Sirius have made it clear they weren't interested in renewing the show.
Excuse me, but you're advocating for violence against literally 50% of the population. Physically attacking someone when no law has been broken is never OK. Actually, it may not be OK even when a law has been broken. Equality doesn't mean anything when it's used to protect one part of the population but not another.
You're right, women never break the law. You have this idea that half of the population is on a pedestal. What you said here is so bad I'm not sure if you're trolling.
Why are you equating women to being in the same category as children? You've done this twice now. Women are adults and that's what this conversation is about. Women aren't the helpless creatures or children, stop referring to them as such.
Comparing adult women to children is one of the most insulting and sexist things that one could do.
:/
Sorry, but like Norton, Bennington, and others, I have to stand with Anthony here. I don't condone racism by any means but people should be allowed to say what they want. If we don't like it, we don't have to listen to it and destructive types can destroy themselves. I myself am not white and have never considered Anthony to be racist. I think he hits on touchy subjects, maybe too touchy for some people to discuss but the fact is there are those stereotypical problems in different communities and cultures that sometimes have basis in fact. It doesn't make you a racist to understand those problems, but I say if you generalize and assume EVERYONE of said group is like that, then yeah, that is kind of a problem.
Nobody's stopping him. He's not being fined or going to jail. A corporation can dump people whenever they feel like it.Sorry, but like Norton, Bennington, and others, I have to stand with Anthony here. I don't condone racism by any means but people should be allowed to say what they want. If we don't like it, we don't have to listen to it and destructive types can destroy themselves.
If we all did this, then eventually they would lose listeners, sponsors, and money, kicking them off the air. Sirius just skipped all of that. And they have the right to do that, as his employer. As an employee of Sirius he represents them whether on or off the clock. So it's obvious that they no longer want to have him be associated with their company. What he did is the equivalent to him ranting and raving exactly the same things as his tweets, but out in the streets instead and his boss happened to be close by and witness it. You don't think he would be fired for doing that?Sorry, but like Norton, Bennington, and others, I have to stand with Anthony here. I don't condone racism by any means but people should be allowed to say what they want. If we don't like it, we don't have to listen to it and destructive types can destroy themselves.
You answered yourself why people are claiming he's a racist. His tweets don't seem to have much nuance in them. They seem explicit in its attempt to paint all black people as violent savages. He couldn't just look at the woman accosting him as "a woman". He had to associate her as "a black woman", and an angry one at that. If it was a white woman instead, would he have thought "there goes another angry white woman!"? I doubt it. "White" wouldn't even be in the equation. I think that shows his biases and what he really thinks about black people. It doesn't make you a racist to understand those problems, but I say if you generalize and assume EVERYONE of said group is like that, then yeah, that is kind of a problem.
I don't quite understand your thought process here. So what you're saying is that if we ignore things that we don't like, they will go away on their own? Cause that's not how the world works. This is not like him saying that he doesn't like chocolate cake or something mundane. Racism (or sexism or homophobia, etc., you get the idea) is something that needs to be stamped out of decent society. Period. The only way to do that is to shine a bright light on it whenever it rears its ugly head, point out why it's wrong (in the hopes that those who are ignorant to it will be enlightened) and squash it out. If I simply ignore the racist, that will not mean that he will stop being racist. He will continue to be racist to others and they will suffer if I didn't do anything to show more people that he is racist when I had the opportunity to do so. That's why the stories with the gay couples going to a cake shop and suing them/crucifying them in the media for not doing it on grounds of their faith are so important. Other people can't know the cake makers are bigots if the people who found out they were bigots just ignored them and didn't do something about it (off-topic, but it's also why it's so imperative that a rape victim comes forth and reports the perpetrator; so he/she doesn't do it again to another victim).I really think people in general need thicker skins. If someone says something you don't like...who cares? How does it affect you? It's just noise. You can pinch your noise at the stink of it and walk away. There is a ton of racist garbage out there.....only the ...I don't even have a word for it, would seek out racist (Against them) material and decide to be upset about it. You can determine what you allow to be in your life.
Just because there are more important things to do doesn't mean that this is not worth pursuing. People can multitask. You'd have to seek out Anthony's twitter to read what he wrote and then be offended. That's like choosing to be offended because it's a hobby or something. Screw that, I got better things to do.
As many people said (even Penn in his podcast): this isn't a free speech issue. Anthony has the right to say anything he wants. The US government didn't arrest him for his tweets. He is not being punished by them. So his rights were being upheld. But as it has been said countless times: Freedom of speech is not freedom from repercussions of your speech. You can and should be reprimanded by people who don't agree with whatever you say. After all, they are just exorcising their freedom of speech. We have just as much of a right to not like what he said as he had in saying it in the first place. Please don't ask my race, I won't reveal. It doesn't matter. My words on the board define who I am. I am actually quite liberal and this is how I feel. I stand with Jim Norton, Joe Rogan, Penn Jillette, Colin Quinn, and many others with Anthony. There is a principal here that I believe in, and it doesn't have anything to do with what Anthony actually said.
Perhaps that I worded it wrong. I'm not exactly comparing adult women to children at all. All I'm saying is that men should never put their hands on either women or children. Is that so hard for anybody to comprehend? Fuck, I'm getting really frustrated here. I don't know why you two are giving me such a hard time over it.
....
I hate how defending him suddenly makes you a racist on twitter. I'm black and am a long time listener to the show. I wouldn't make the argument that Ant is not racist, because I believe he is. I just don't think he should've been fired over this rant. Anybody who was a regular listener of the show was not at all shocked that he said some not nice things about black people; it's the people who weren't listeners of the show or even those that didn't realize they were still on the air that were outraged. A situation where he was attacked on the streets turns into an issue where he is the villain and the so called attack that sparked the rant didn't happen at all. I don't fault anybody for being offended by his rant, but if you're not a subscriber to his channel in the first place, who are you to complain?
I'm also liberal and disagree with almost everything Anthony says about politics and race. There was much more to the show than just those two things.
