The loot that carries over from quest to quest is basically what makes Pathfinder ACG IMO. There's a bit of a dull game underneath all this; the interesting choices take place when deciding which stats to boost or which weapons/spells/armor to keep, not so much during enemy encounters or which location to visit.
Sometimes I don't know if I actually like the game or not, but I do know that it plays way better with a role-playing mindset than a gaming-mindset.
