Nintendo Downloads - July 2014

WTF @ Ittle Dew?

Any way for me to get if they really didn't release it here? Seriously wtf..
The Steam version should still be available for you, or you could make a non-German NNID and buy it that way.
At least it's not 3DS exclusive where you're truly screwed if you don't get stuff in your country.

I wonder if Japan getting Super Mario Advance means that we might also get the GBA version of Link To The Past because that version is superior over the European SNES version.

Unless Nintendo requires an USK-rating, it is totally optional. If they don't let the USK rate the game it will treated as 18+ game automatically, so some minors with restricted access to the eShop will not be able to download the game. But since it would cost them absolutely nothing to put it on the German eShop without a rating and they could still sell some copies of the game, I don't see why they would opt against it.

But then that would limit the market plus unfairly give the game a rating that it doesn't deserve.

Germany rating system is stupid and needs to change.

Yes, the GBA releases had voice clips, including Toad's screeching. http://youtu.be/9VDFzs_lp7s

That was awesome and I see nothing wrong with that clip.

Being serous here.

No, it wouldn't have any rating at all, but since a game without rating could be everything, it naturally can only be downloaded by adults. Otherwise we wouldn't need a rating system at all. And how would this limit the market? They plan to not release it in Germany at all and this wouldn't affect the other European countries in the slightest. I'd rather take some sales instead of none.

Germany rating system is stupid and needs to change.

There are way more complains from indie publishers about PEGI than about the USK. So why is it our rating system that needs to change? Germany not getting the game has nothing to do with our rating system but with the fact, that it only covers the German market, while PEGI covers the rest of Europe.

you answered your own question

The USK is useless, expensive and randomly. It should be abandoned and germany should just adopt the EU-wide PEGI system.

but, of course, that will never ever happen in a country with ridiculously overblown youth protection laws which force many filmmakers and game devs to censor the shit out their work

The USK is more efficient than PEGI and at least it doesn't ask for a physical disc of your game (unlike PEGI). To handle PEGI is way more annoying than to handle the USK. The rest of Europe should just adapt to our system.

lol, no.

It's not "filmmakers" and "game devs" who are "forced" to do that. It's publishers who do it just to maximize profits. Fucking Disney cut Lilo & Stitch in Germany because they feared they might get a FSK 6 rating, lol. Now with the blu ray release 12 years later they tried again with the uncensored version and oops, the censorship wasn't even necessary because it still got its FSK 0. Don't blame our rating system, just because publishers are greedy.

Yeah, Microsoft and Capcom must be greedy too with Dead Rising.

Seems odd the Little Dew devs never released it on the Mexican eShop though (I hope they understand an EU Spanish translation might be as well received as no translation, I understand South American Spanish does not appreciate European Spanish translations and vice-versa, maybe I'm a bit wrong).

Given how protective Nintendo is in general I don't think they would allow unrated games plus it asks the question of why draw the line there?

While the suggestions of a UK NNID are welcome to get around the Germany non-release, can I suggest Ireland instead? They use Euros so you won't need to pay currency exchange commission and the Euro price might work out cheaper than converting to pounds.

But yeah if the Little Dew devs can't afford a USK rating I don't pin any hopes on Australia happening either.

Guys, I know that this may not be the place to ask, but I guess I could try: Is Cave Story for the 3DS a good purchase? I'm planning on buying it because I like platformers. My only fear is that I already have Cave Story+ on PC because of some bundles that I bought, but I only played the first level I think, so the only reason for buying it on the 3DS would be portability. Is it worth it? (I already have Shovel Knight, and will buy the Mega Man games on the future).

Also, I just downloaded the Theatrhythm demo and, for my surprise, really got hooked on it. The problem is that I would need to find a physical copy of the game, which will be a pain to get here (and also a lot more expensive). Never thought I would like the game, but after trying my opinion changed.

Wait 2 months for Theatrhythm: Curtain Call to come out is my advice here. That contains all the songs from the first game (and nearly all of the DLC too) along with a load of new content (including even more DLC).

cave story is a great portable game

I'm disappointed that there is no support for Pro Controller in Pushmo World :/ That should be given but apparently it's still not.

From Nintendo's official twitter..

um, yeah

I remember Kuru Kuru Kururin being the "sneaky good" game for the GBA's launch in Japan.

Of course, it never ended up coming to the US, although of course could've easily imported either the Japanese or European versions. But, never got around to doing so for whatever reason.

you can't be serious. I'm not talking about "fucking disney" or other kids/family entertainment stuff.
You do know that there are tons of games and movies which didn't even get a release in germany because of your overblown youth protection laws?
You might want to visit this site and look through it's movies and games lists. It has thousands of entries btw.
This extremly popular website does only exist because of germany's ridiculous youth protection laws.

About Inazuma eleven, is this just a port of the DS version, or the DS game translated and released digitally? I wonder if companies will start re-releasing ds games for digital download on the 3ds...

It's from the trilogy collection on the 3DS from Japan, just with only the first game. The translation is based on the European translation.

Damn. Oh well. I still got it cause I wanted Inazuma Eleven since it came out in japan. (A 10 dollar sale is too good to pass up.)

I can't stand the voice samples. NIntendo was way too persistent on inserting voice clips in GBA releases. I think at the time though, there was a lot of praise over the Advance's audio capabilities compared to the previous Game Boys.

The GBA port of Yoshi's Island is pretty good. Didn't play enough of the SNES version (shame, I know) to really find the graphical and audio regressions a hindrance to gameplay.

The only gripe is the way the GBA crops the screen sometimes. There's platforms or obstacles that are just out of frame. Makes me think the Yoshi's New Island developers didn't play the original SNES game once.

Not totally on topic but I was so glad A Link Between Worlds Link was silent. GBA LttP counterpart was not. Every. Sword. Swing.

The insertion of the voices got plenty of negative reactions at the time as well.

So there is a Wii U on sale near me. Apparently it comes with a NNID and some digital games. I'd like to buy it, but I also have my own NNID on my 3DS. I understand that I won't be able to use my own NNID with that Wii U without losing the games. What are the other downsides, e.g. will I be all right if I just use that account with the Wii U and another with the 3DS?

You can have multiple NNIDs per wiiu.

you simply register a new account and use your 3DS NNID. You can have multiple NNIDs on a single Wii U console, and you will be able to access the content downloaded from each single NNID

You mean, because the publisher think it's not worth the effort and know all who want it will just import from Austria, right?

I know Schnittberichte.com very well and use it myself for many years (when I started it was still Schnittberichte.de). You are wrong though. Schnittberichte.com covers many harmless stuff like the already mentioned Lilo & Stitch and other films from Disney, Warner and Fox. It's not long ago Disney cut Maleficent for a FSK6-rating, even though FSK12-films can be watched by all kids six and older if they're with their parents.

There are also many "Schnittberichte" where the German version is uncut and other versions are cut or where they only compare a usually uncut release with an cut TV broadcast. So no, this website doesn't only exist because of our "ridiculous" youth protection laws.
Personally I think the FSK should only deny a FSK18-rating if there is a really good reason. Those films should be handled like index films and there shouldn't be any "Beschlagnahmungen" (embargos?). I'm not a fan of those either and I own films that are on this list.
Other than that, I think we have better youth media protection laws than most other countries. Austria doesn't even have ratings for Blu-rays and DVDs in most cantons, lol. I'd take the occasional film embargo over that!

You can still link your 3DS' NNID to the Wii U. Other then the 3DS the Wii U allows you to register up to 12 users with different NNIDs. All users can play all games, so there's not even a need to switch accounts to play the other games.

Ah, so it's pretty much like the PS3. I seen then, thanks! Thought it would be more restrictive after hearing all those horror stories.

The GCN one is even better.

I really wish the eShop prices more closely resembled retail. Bought Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate from Gamestop for $20 but I'd much rather have it digital. Not sure if it's worth twice the price just to have it on a SD card though.

I like the convenience of having all of my games available so I can switch back and forth but sometimes retail sales (especially Amazon) throw a wrench in all of those plans.

I played the hell out of the second one. Still have the GBA cart and the original box on my shelf, one of the few GBA games I still own.
