well he has a good pool of moves.

Oh, I know he does. Just curious how that would translate to smash-style attacks. B attacks and such. I'm not saying it can't just wondering if anyone's put together any theories.

Neutral B: Monado Buster
Up B: Monado Cyclone (modified for ascent)
Side B: Monado Speed or Monado Eater. (Speed buff and DoT strike respectively)
Down B. Monado Armor (knockback reduction)

Sounds good to me!

He said he only had a few videos left, not only a few videos left to show before release. I hope that at least one of the videos is unlockable, and can be seen once you get the character.

It is a fact, unless Sakurai didn't meet his goal. His goal was to give every newcomer a video. Assuming he met that goal, few videos left means that there are few newcomers left.

But like you said, there is the possibility that he didn't meet his goal (as evidenced by Mii... kinda).

Mmm. A good point.

Oh he's one dimensional?

That's a problem for some of role-playing games since lead/main character often to be one dimensional because they want you to feel that you are the main character, who made the decision and all that. Party Members often made the games shining because they are awesome.

Thus it isn't fact.

It'd be great (i'm kidding) if shulk did bonus damage to robotic enemies (sorry rob!), just how ivysaur took more damage from fire attacks and did more damage to water enemies :p

Ah I didnt know xenoblade was a rpg. Never played it or heard if it until I came to Gaf.

So are you saying Shulk will do 1% damage on every attack to human characters?
Or we going for Monado 2?

The problem with this in Xenoblade is that they attempt to create a bland everyman lead, and also give him large amounts of dialogue and narrative focus. Either putting the majority of focus on an interesting character; or creating a silent stand-in would have worked, but attempting to go halfway with a voiced, cliche lead largely devoid of character kind of is the worst of both worlds. I couldn't be happier with Xeno X's choice of a customisable protagonist.

I doubt it. That would go against his official reasoning to remove the story mode. He said that there'd be no story since the CGs were supposed to be "prizes" there, but were quickly uploaded to the internet, killing the excitation for them.

So, if there are unrevealed new characters in the game, I don't think they'll have CGs.

What's his character like?
He doesn't have one. Understandably, this can get irritating when he takes up much of the focus for an 80-hour game.

As intell and Golnei mention, he's kinda empty as he's meant to be the 'everyman' shell for the player to occupy while his supporting cast are overall awesome and memorable.
This leads to the issue where if we're going to get a rep from Xenoblade it's unfortunately going to 'have' to be the least interesting character you can actually play :P

It's the same issue we'd hit with paper mario (amazing characters but we'd end up being gated with yet another silent protagonist AND a mario before we get to the good stuff) and to some degree even Chrom (FE has a super diverse cast yet we apparently need to burrow through yet another blue-haired male lord before we're 'allowed' any of them... if ever :P I'm not going to call Chrom a swordsman because my brain can't accept Samurai would go for a triple dupe by introducing this character )

Yeah, I think it's more likely that everything will just be revealed before release. I mean if there were truly secret characters, YouTube would just spoil them immediately anyway.

At least newcomers? They're sort of a bigger deal.

There's a
second Monado
? Wow thanks for that(!)
Not exactly, at least not in the way you might be thinking. It's really not a huge spoiler.

I hope it is the Monado II. Not only would it make more sense, but it looks so much cooler. That said, I feel like they might go with the more iconic one.

The upside is that the character always ends up a lot more interesting when they're put into Smash, regardless of their personality or lack of personality outside of Smash.

My apologies. I forgot there are many who haven't played the game yet. Even though it released in 2010.
2011 Europe and 2012 America which I'd still consider recent. And not everyone has to play a game the moment it is released. For your information I'm in the middle of playing it after putting it down for a while. Quest system is tedious.

I really wished that they increased the EXP for quests. Doing 10-20 of them per area for leveling was extremely annoying.

The great thing for NG+ is that you're already leveled up so you only need to do them for special skills you missed the first time, armor and 100% completion.

I am not too thrilled with Shulk's inclusion, but I will withhold final judgment until the reveal. Sakurai has surprised me with all of the newcomers so far.

Oh, yeah, Sakurai knows how to make interesting movesets but as far as I'm concerned if I don't like the character then I'm not going to play them, even if they have the bestest, most interesting moveset ever created by humankind.
Changing their personality won't really change their character design so that won't really change my likelyhood of considering them playable either :P

Sorry if I seem a bit glum but the leaked newcomers and the odd "omg hyrule warriors has too many female character" posts that keep popping up in other threads are getting to me -.-

Ice Climbers entire personalities, world and story live entirely in Smash Bros.

Sakurai even managed to give personality (and some lore) to a 2D representation of a glorified calculator game. That's impressive on its own.

Time and time again Smash has taken characters with no personality or background and made them just as rich of a character/series as characters like Samus and Snake with detailed, well known backgrounds and lore. And even better still, the series themselves change with Smash Bros' applied lore, like Captain Falcon and (somewhat) Kirby.

Well I will be more careful in the future. After all
I would be fuming if I found out the Skyward Sword could be upgraded into the Master Sword

Not really

Samus isn't a particularly rich character. :-P

Holy! The least thing they need to do is increase the EXP for quests, instead they should decrease EXP and increase AP,SP gain from quests, also give better reward equipment/gems such as Quick Step/
Monapon
.

Samus isn't a particularly rich character. :-P

If we ignore Other M messing everything up, including the comic (which is canon), the Metroid series has a lot of interesting story elements.

Every single Prime game, for example, has detailed log entries for every single species Samus encounters, plus huge amounts of supplemental logs for story, plus an actual story on top of that.

Metroid is one of the most detailed stories and worlds Nintendo makes. Samus is also one of Nintendo's best fleshed out personalities (ignoring Other M's blunders).

At least newcomers? They're sort of a bigger deal.

Like I said before, do you really think they'd market a new Toon Link or Wolf like that? Considering how there are still clones in the game, I don't think it'd be odd to have new ones. Wolf isn't exactly a clone, but they couldn't even bother giving him a Final Smash of his own.

Posting sarcastic spoilers doesn't make you clever. In fact it just makes you come off as a prick.

Yes. Especially Wolf. They're complete characters. I'm sure Chrom will get a video too.

Also, the stream commentators might have hinted that an announcement is coming up later. They were thanking Nintendo for advertising, and said something along the lines of "And who knows what we could see in the future." "Hmmm... I wonder..."

Eh

I disagree with the assertion the Shulk is completely bland.

I mean he's relatively mild in a cast of distinct characters, but he's *there.* Like, before the plot kicks off, he's just this big dumb nerd. And he spends most of the game being that "big dumb nerd. (His nerdiness can let make him his *own* weapons. That's pretty cool, haha) He goes through some awful, inconsistent writing at times (See the final Metal Face fight or not telling people about his visions) and his occasional bouts of screaming
FIORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
is grating as hell, but he's generally a decent character. I like his non-story persona (such a in the heart 2 heart sequences)
