I had no idea that even happened. Well then, that certainly seems like a strong lead. Ah well, it's at least still good news for Chrom; seems like there's no denying the Gematsu leak at this point and I do not mind.
For the record I just want to see someone from Awakening and Chrom seems like a logical choice seeing as he's the protagonist. Gameplay-wise I would way rather see Cordelia or Panne. A Pegasus Rider and a Taguel would be extremely fun to control!

This has to be a joke, I played through the game three times and all I remember about Chrom are the cut scenes he appeared in. Robin was a waay better character.

How is it rape culture if he said he would do it if the character was announced. It was his choice to say that and when Shulk gets announced he has to live with the jokes.

No it's more about people being held accountable for saying stupid things online (assuming he is wrong anyway).
It's why I don't say things that might come back and bite me in the arse, especially things that I come across as knowing absolutely to be true when I have no more information than anybody else.
Anyway, I'm not much of a Smash fan but I'll buy this if it has Shulk in it. I hope the rumors are true.

I actually have a feeling Isaac is going to be one of the last revealed Newcomers, but in the inevitable Smash 3DS direct that will air before the Japanese launch.
Or be an Assist Trophy like he was in Brawl.

Robin/Avatar and Chrom pretty much share the main character role though, from beginning to the ending of the game.
Chrom is featured in more official art though, since a lot of Awakening's art tries to leave the Avatar's official design and gender ambiguous (although they did use the default appearance in some products, like drama cds and art book).

Was wondering why everyone was so certain it was Shulk, but I just read through the entire thread, and now I see why. Shulk was one of my most wanted characters, so this is awesome news.

Robin and Marth are both kind of the main character. And since the Villager got the nice "many different versions" alts, I think Robin would fit in great. Chrom could even be in Robin's final smash! Or Lucina, but that would be too good to be true

This is a LONG shot but what if that with the recent Nintendo 3DS 3rd party Nintendo Direct being so heavily JRPG focused, that they do announce a newcomer AND a veteran... both Shulk and Ness?
I love speculating.
Yeah, the game has great music and I can't wait to see what they'll choose for the trailer.

Not a joke. Robin is obviously a better character gameplay wise considering she has all the jobs available to her/him. On the other hand, Chrom has a better design, a distinctive weapon, better supports conversations, and played a way bigger role in the story. He also appeared in the DLC, where Robin was non-existant which clearly means IS considers him the top character in the game.
In the context of Smash playable characters, they are. Last time I checked, Sakurai only includes main characters and fan favorites than play a large role in the story. Anna is just a random character in every game that barely appears (I didn't even know she appeared in PoR and RD until a few weeks ago) and Tiki is nothing more than a supporting character that's no different than people like Mist or Frederick in later games.
