I wouldn't hyperlink it at all since even the thumbnail of the video for mobile gaf is a HUGE spoiler already
Yeah I should have pointed that out seeing as im on my phone, just played xenoblade so use to the spoilers, the video was better off not being posted at all.

So does Bowser, is he a newcomer? Pit has new special moves, is he a newcomer? Lucario has a new Final Smash, is he a newcomer?

Charizard is a veteran.

Reason enough to think this is that on the official website newcomers get big blocks and veterans get small ones. Charizard has a small block.

What they have in common:
Blue hair
They all have capes
they all use swords

That's it, they don't actually look the same, they don't fight the same and they have completely different silhouettes.
When I saw your pictures, I thought your point would be that they all look pretty similar.

Guys, pardon my ignorance on the subject, but as a newcomer to this kinds of topics I ask one question: Why She Hulk? Does she have any link to Nintendo or any game? I mean, I understand Snake because of Twin Snakes and more recently the 3DS port of Snake Eater, but She Hulk? Is there some easter egg that I'm missing?

Sorry! Never played Xenoblade before.

It's still bother me that they choose Pac-Man to represent Bandai Namco. Seriouly, who thinks of Pac-Man when you thinks of Bamco.

I do, actually =\

This is an amazingly funny post.

I'm going to assume this is a joke because I can't see it in any other way.

Sakurai really wanted to add a Disney character, and he couldn't get Scrooge McDuck because Capcom couldn't have two characters.

Lol, it's actually the main character from Xenoblade

I though the same thing when first heard it lol

I'm actually serious. I don't have anything against her, I just wanted to know why. Nevermind.

Thanks, I haven't played it yet.

I like Chrom and wouldn't mind him being in the game at all, but it's pretty disappointing if all three FE reps are sword users considering so many classes in the game are all about other weapons like lances and axes.

Basilio would have been pretty great.

best post ever

Don't think of him as a Bamco rep then, and just pick the character based on his own merits.

Those merits being he's the biggest and most recognizable video game icon. He's easily the most important character in Namco's stable at any point in their history after his creation.

I think "Shulk Sees an Opening" is the best tagline.

Didn't he say "I see an opening!" in Xenoblade whenever he saw a vision? Really interested how they're gonna work in time-seeing

I'd also love if Shulk's alts changed his armor to different ones from Xenoblade.

lol even though ike was awesome in brawl, i admit he should of been cut so sakurai can replace him with the new FE game lead :P / same way I felt about Lucario ..bastard should of been cut >.<
pokemon already has too many representatives ( poor jiggly ) and FE is too small of a nintendo franchise to have 3rd Representative imo ._.

super glad about shulk though, its going to stick it to my friend who hates jrpg/anime ish characters ..palutena already made him mad

Meet Shulk, the protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles - a JRPG that was released on the Wii with great word of mouth and critical reception.

Thank you, I tried to find Xenoblade here but I couldn't, so I hadn't got experience on the game yet. I thought it was a joke that people used to say.

Custom Robo is basically a dead series at this point. Maybe in another entry or two it could be added as a retro character.

Apparently the new Punch Out did well enough to boost Little Mac up from AT status. The new Golden Sun wasn't enough to do so for Isaac.

I'm curious why you think Isaac and Custom Robo weren't added if they're as important as you say. Do you think Sakurai couldn't come up with a moveset for them? He secretly hates the franchise, or it's fans? If they're ATs (I can't imagine they won't return), they were never even considered to be playable. The only answer I can see is that they're from C-tier franchises, which makes sense as that's what most ATs are (Dillon, Starfy, Saki, Barbara the Bat, Jill from Drill Dozer, etc).

You mean like Kid Icarus, Punch-Out, and others? Seriously dead franchise isn't a good enough argument to count as a notch against getting characters. If that's the case how does Starfox have 3 characters while Metroid only got it's second in Brawl and people continue to argue that Ridley "is too big" even though it's a big franchise and actually had a game recently unlike Starfox.

Not really, I've no fondness for the man so your guess is as good as mine as to why he would chose to put in somebody like Wolf, make him a semiclone instead of a new character from a franchise that was still getting games at that point (Custom Robo DS) and Isaac as well with Dark Dawn, I just blame it on his horrible bias towards things he's worked on and maybe a lack of popularity. Coming up with a moveset for either is incredibly easy, also most of the characters you mentioned come from games with less than three games (which is what constitutes a franchise) barring Starfy.

Either way, you can't argue that they're unknown characters because FE didn't even exist here yet Roy and Marth made it through and allowed that franchise to actually come to the west.

"C-tier" franchises is also a poor example given punch-out, kid icarus, and I'd even throw in the supposed rhythm heaven in there. Should also include MOTHER considering the fact that the last game was for the GBA, it has little popularity in the US (even though it has a rather loud and obnoxious fanbase) and that series has two characters.

I haven't played Xenoblade and I'm sure it's great, but god do I hate JRPG character designs. Well, mostly just the clothes.

While I'm perfectly fine with Shulk as a character in both Xenoblade and Smash, lord do I hate his default outfit.
I think its pretty cool looking, there are certainly worse JRPG protag outfits, I found his outfit surprisingly something a person would wear.

a winner is you

Xenoblade is one of the few JRPGs I can recall where his look actually changes depending on what armor he's wearing...

Although the rest of the armor looks even more ridiculous.

So does Bowser, is he a newcomer? Pit has new special moves, is he a newcomer? Lucario has a new Final Smash, is he a newcomer?

Charizard is a veteran.

You really arguing this based on Final Smashes and new specials?

Charizard is unique since he was pulled out of Pokemon Trainer which was a 3 man team.

If you really want to argue the veteran thing he was a vet since Melee.

Bowser was reworked and is a veteran through and through.

That's because people keep requesting the wrong characters. The biggest non-sword user with the highest chance of making it to the game is this awesome beast:

Yeah I know lol, I was just implying that this guy's complaint about there being too many Fire Emblem characters is really a complaint about how they keep choosing blue-haired male sword-wielding Lords.

Which is fair, I think. There's such a large pool of characters to choose from.

Brawl's line up was initially decided around the time of Command's release. So, Star Fox wasn't considered a "dead series". Metroid didn't have the same luck this time though, and the development started after Other M's failure, so that might not help its chances.

Charizard was in Smash 64 as well

Well, you're absolutely right in that there are worse JRPG outfits. But still, Shulk looks like a flower child opened up a clothing shop in a junkyard scrap pile.

Can we just have a FE Villain? Is that too much to ask?

I've been asking for The Black Knight for years now.

Punch Out just had a new game, how is that anything close to a dead series? Pit was added as a retro character in Brawl, and just had a new game. Star Fox actually has a new game coming out and is a franchise with tons of memorable characters, unlike Metroid. Ridley is a boss. Rhythm Heaven isn't a C-tier franchise, it actually sold quite well. Mother likely only has one character (Ness), and isn't getting a newcomer. I wasn't arguing that they were unknown characters, I was mainly arguing that they're characters from small-time Nintendo series. Characters from small-time Nintendo series are almost always added as ATs, if anything. You're overestimating the importance of Golden Sun and Custom Robo because you like the games. According to Sakurai, at the very least, they're not as important as you think they are.

You really arguing this based on Final Smashes and new specials?

Charizard was considered by Sakurai to be an individual character in Brawl (as were Squirtle and Ivysaur). If Charizard's a newcomer, Sheik is a newcomer. In Melee he was a Pokeball, not a character. In Brawl he was a character for the first time, and in the new Smash games he's a returning character.

He's a veteran by every definition.

I think it'd be neat (if not exactly accurate) if Chrom was able to switch between a sword, axe, and lance to differ him from Marth and Ike. Basically a 3-in-1 character, but less resource intensive, each weapon would change up his moves. All the other new characters have been pretty in-depth.

Smash logic: Has this character been on a box art? Then they can be in.

Extra characters get added after box character. This rule does not apply to Pokemon, but Pokemon that have been on a box get more attention. Rule also doesn't apply to Mother but no rules apply to Mother.

Only if he can switch weapon styles through his taunts. I think that in itself is such a great concept.

Well when you put it that way I'll concede.

Just to end this argument, Sakurai, and Nintendo consider Charizard to be a veteran.

Makes sense.

Wolf? Slippy deserves the spot.
