Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

Or post another screenshot where godrays are not one point of RGB scale different from rest of the environment. :D
This i can do.

It looks like the windshield is missing in this last shot...
I like effects, but these ones look really overplayed.
As with most things, showed in first implementation, in this game, they are not finished. They are currently running at "maximum" effect (overdone), so bug show up earlier, windshield (glass) halting rays, still to come.

Yeah I think it would look a lot better if they fix that. Also does that car have an open roof or is it leaking?

Variable random weather is going to add such depth and strategy to racing from now on. Laguna Seca looks superb, by the way. I've fallen in love with this track for the first time ever after playing GT6's lush green version. Always hated the beige dustbowl versions that appeared in every game previously.

Also: I'm definitely going triple screen. Mind made up.

couple questions for you guys that are more "in the know" about this game...i didn't follow it much from the start because frankly, i dont have a PC capable of playing this game even at a console like level...but as Driveclub is becoming more and more unappealing to me, and currently being a PS4 only owner and having to regretfully miss Forza 5 im really starting to look towards Project Cars as something to fill my need for a proper racer this fall...

The car roster is, imo somewhat....lacking?...has SMS said anything about potential DLC plans for cars?...is there a "final" car list for what the console version will ship with that is different than what i seem to have found regarding what is available on the PC right now?

Car count does currently seem a little low. Do you have access to the official forums? I'm guessing it's been discussed at length over there.

The plan was to get something like 100 cars in the initial release, but it seems unlikely at this point. We are still waiting for unannouced cars to pop up in already finished state (Chevy, Nissan, Aston Martin). There will be more cars in DLCs. If i understand correctly, they got Indy license done and it will be one big DLC with cars and tracks. They are also pursuing NASCAR, WEC and some other big licenses. Also, World of Speed showed Mazda, Fiat, Dodge and Honda, so they might as well make it into PCARS, although unlikely at the release.

Right, this might seem like a stupid question (I was always told there are no stupiud questions, only stupid answers), but does the weather affect grip and performance?

E.G. Will a car slide more in the wet? Will it grip more in hot weather and then go over the edge as tyres overheat and become worn out? Just wondering if it's just aesthetics, or it's proper sims?

Makes a big difference, proper sim :)

Light rain, if you can keep the tire temps up (i.e don't back off to much) you can keep a good lap time, full rain, seat of the pants just to stay on track!

Just got back into testing with this after a long hiatus and I have to say its shaping up very very nicely, feels so good :)

Good stuff, thanks for that. Sounds like it's going to be top quality.

I meant proper sim. I've been writing so much today I don't know what I'm writing anymore . . .

Do you know when some acutal Wii U footage will be shown?

I saw this on the Project Cars Facebook page:

Link

The Wii U anticipation is strong with this one.....

Yes. This accessory needs to happen. I'd also be interested to see somebody try using the Wii Fit balance board as pedals in some way.

Any of you WMD guys know if it's still on track for a Nov console release? Several game shops still haven't heard of it and one clerk told me it's listed as a 2015 release now.

I always thought you were a PC racer James?

Sadly no, I'm just a lowly console plebian.

I wish I could con the wife into getting a nice PC and wheel.

Had a 360 previously and loved it- Race Pro, Shift, FM, PGR, MotoGP, SBK, WRC, Grid, Dirt, F1, FH- lots of great games.
Now I've made the jump to PS4 (already imported MotoGP 14). For now I'll stick with one console, I'll miss Forza and really bummed about FH2, absolutely loved the first one.

But back on topic, I'm dying to play pCARS. Such a huge fan of the immersion of the Shift games. I'm really hoping this does hit the release date and get a nice DLC plan. I'tll be great to sim a GT3 Championship with variable weather on a huge track list. Been waiting for this game for years!

Even though I don't have a PC, I did give some cash to support the product on WMD. Got a chance to meet Andy and ask him questions about Shfit 2 in the EA UK studio for Forzacentral a few years ago. Great guy.

They are hitting all dev milestones, so I'd say yes, they're on track.

About car number, I don't know what to say. In all honesty, I'd like at least three cars per class, But I must admit that, after two and a half years, I'm yet to play all the cars in the game.

I think games such as Forza and GT have spoiled people. You need to keep in mind that these are cars that have no placeholder physics or tyres. These are fully developed cars, where each one is meant to represent the real thing, whereas in the games above mentioned, many cars (if not most) have samey physics and tyres.

Besides, this is not a game about collecting cars. This is about true motorsports competition, so, you probably will pick up a car, have a full season with that car, move on to another aclss next season or maybe repeat. It's a whole different concept.

That said, the more, the merrier.

Oh I totally, completely agree. I would be happy with even 50 cars if they spread across racing classes and included a few select street cars, IF the track list is huge that is.

For me, racing games were never about collecting cars, but so much more about the diversity and number of tracks. Add in weather and that only increases the difference in feel for the same tracks. We've had this comversation in many threads, but tracks give a racing title legs IMO, not the sheer number of cars.

Hell, playing Shift, I'd stick to about 6-12 at most (loved doing Ferrari F430 Challenge or Porsche GT races). Shift 2 had a great track list, and this is shaping up to include even more.

Speaking of tracks, is Misty Loch in this from FRL?

They're only true god rays if the source of light is completely obscured, yet the rays of light are still visible. Not saying these aren't true, but Fable 3 had effects like this. As soon as the sun was out of view the rays disappeared. Not true god rays.
Crysis 1 did this, not sure about the sequels. Looked amazing back then, still looks amazing now

By the time I've learned about this game it was too late to buy into it, so I don't really know anything. So I feel really stupid and left behind.

When it actually comes out in november, will everyone start with a clean sheet, or funders will have a huge advantage over regular players, or it's not how the game works at all?

Does it have any point or career mode or you'll purely race for racing itself, without any extra rewards?

Weird questions there, I may say.

There're no perks in the game. Multiplayer is skill based and works through servers, so I don't see how us, members, would have any advantage, beyond knowing the game better than you. But to answer your question, yes, all profiles will be new the moment the game launches.

It has a career mode, but it's totally cut from the multiplayer. There's no unlocking in the game (except for achievements, I guess). You can start your career from Karts, you can start from Formula A (Formula 1) if that's what you like best. No need to go through the ranks unlocking everything. You can play any track or car you may want to play from the get go in Time Trial or Quick Race or Practice, or whatever mode you might want to play in.

I reckon GT and Forza have done a lot of harm to the racing genre when it comes down to how people conceive their estructure.

I actually like the structure of GT.

So it'll basically have the classic sim structure. I haven't played like that since LFS was still fresh.

Except that you don't have pedals or analog triggers or force feed back.
Force feedback... ok, but we're not talking about a $500 rig here. Pedals... yes, we would also need pedals. But a wheel w/ a screen could be pretty useful.

Biggest concern is what you didn't mention: I have no idea if the gyro provides the fidelity needed to act as a decent sim stwering wheel.

No surprise there.

I stil wonder whether the PS4 and Bone versions will hit release on time. There's limited PS4 footage and zero Bone footage so far, and only, what, three months of proper dev time left?
How many Multi platform games have you seen footage, from all platforms before release?

I'm guessing the correct answer is... none?
probably, specially "so far" out.

Basic rule, if you have a PC version and don't forget, the one we have seen more than almost any other game in development before, you use that one for promotion ("unlimited" power). When it comes to console, it is obvious, that again you pick the slightly more powerful one for promotion (as it looks slightly better, besides the little easier to get the game running (memory structure) part)), unless there is some marketing deal.

Last generation, almost all pre release demo's (hands-ons / trade shows/ review code) were done using the 360, this generation pubs/devs are using the PS4.

But looking at how early they were willing to show of the PS4 footage, I have no doubt they will release something from the XB1 version prior to release, it might just take some time (unless Bandai is doing all the marketing from now on (?))
