Hey, I just played my first real game and apparently most players are WAY worse than the 'easy' bots, lol.

I was the second best player by far (best from our team) and we were far superior, if not for one guy on the enemy team who was playing a Juggernaut. He was straight up broken and unstoppable. Really high damage (722 by the end), ridiculous speed, some insane combos, impossible to whittle his health down even slightly because of his health regen. And I was playing a Tidehunter or whatever with basically all strength buffs from items. Match would have been a walk in the park if it hadn't been for him ('course we lost).

This game is so broken, lol. (And by that I mean probably the matchmaking's broken because the dude obviously knew some ridiculous item combination that made him unstoppable to _us_ - equal skill level my ass.)

Nobody's saying brand anyone a rapist. I was just pointing out why "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't always go down so well in cases of rape.

Society and the law is set up in a way to pressure people not to make a "fuss" over these things, and when they do, the victim pays for it with more trauma. Hell, their university even had an internal board which presided over cases of sexual assault and harassment so the school could say they had a perfect clean slate. The conviction rate is a joke in comparison to the prevalence of rape.

When you take that into account, you start to see why some people lean the other way to try to balance things out.

Just do it. There are tons of bad (aka new) players like you and me out there. Actually, don't let me stop you from uninstalling Dota. :p
 
I've installed/uninstalled Dota 2 twice over the last year but have never built up the courage to start a match. I wonder if there is a paid service to teach people like per match. I'd probably go for it.

There's actually a coaching/mentor system built into the Dota 2 tutorial where people can volunteer to party up and teach new players. I haven't tried it but it's probably worth giving it a go before paying somebody.

There are tons of coaches.

Your time is almost always better spent just reading up and practicing yourself!

I'll offer again even though I am gone all this week (the international so excited!) but if you mega new people want to queue with me and I can give you a few games and I'll give you some tips as we play since there is a lot you won't know unless you watch a lot or someone tells you. http://steamcommunity.com/id/hasmedaoa you can just friend me and we can start your magical dota journey! I'm friendly and don't really care if you really screw up :)

Now i'm usually more of a league player, but i switch between the games quite often. I'm... not very good, but i'd be happy to play Dota with some fellow new players. Steam name is TharpDaddy

I think the main idea for Unfinished was to give them an easy way of doing multiple Quick Look style videos of one game as it grew to a more "Finished" state. I think the Beta would be a great chance to explore this freedom - especially if the Beta lives up to having interesting new content, like Bungie promised
 
They should check in with Next Car Game as often as possible. Also, I want a second Snow video out of GBeast.

So, le dota. Game 2 went like crap. In the beginning, a kind soul told me what lane to play in so I did that (thx again). Then some other guy kept insulting me when I died, so I muted the chat. Think it'll be a one strike approach from now on, can't stand people yelling at me.

But yeah, match went like crap. Didn't get one kill, lol. Have to wonder if playing on a laptop limits me in terms of visibility. Don't think Tidehunter's my guy, anyway. (Also, Juggernaut can continue to get fucked.)
 
I see on their front page that some game called "Sakura Spirit" is coming out. Based on that cover art they definitely need Dan and Jeff to quick look that...

It's a VN with only one choice. Unless they plan on reading it out loud, there's nothing they can really do with it.
 
Dota is far less intimidating if you play with a group of people either you skill level or a bit above that won't mins being patient with you. And I'm sure you can find those people on GAF. Its an amazing game*

except when you're losing a lot and just feel like complete trash

You definitely get some smurf accounts from time to time in the lowest level. But after a few games the matchmaking works pretty well

This is more like the Dota I was promised! :)

My eyes glazed over at the amount of items I can buy.

Pretty much anything that is not leveling up or the four main character traits/moves has me panicked. The Courier has me panicked. The shops has me panicked. Pota scrolls... panicked. Stash panicked.

My days with Command and Conquer is only taking me so far.

Just pick a guide and follow it (the book icon in the upper left when in a match).

One of the biggest hurdles is knowing that some items you buy need to be activated and remembering to even use them, let alone use them well.

It'll come soon.
