Whatevs, his tweets were not worth getting upset over. There are more people talking about that fact that a troll successfully/not took than actually got trolled.

It is pretty funny that they still show on the GB main page however LOL.

Also I'm fairly sure Jeff has said stuff about futbol that was on this level.

I doubt that :P GB fans are more...forceful when it comes to that stuffs :P

Yeah, I doubt he had Jeff force him to pull some dumb tweets about soccer :) Anyways, this seems like a non.issue to me, really.

Regardless of how you feel about a "thing" , when your tweets are showcased on the frontpage of the site you are a writer/editor for its best not to insult a big percentage of your viewers.

I've seen worse from Jeff.

Is this really gonna be a thing?

Also, really sub-par response on the reverse trolling. Of course you're gonna get wrestling tweets, ignore them and hit back harder.

Dan needs to step up his game if he's serious about this.

Eh, the "trolling" shit wasn't funny when Patrick was going through his phase and it's still not funny just because it's Dan doing it.

Never understood it. You managed to say something stupid and rile people up... yay? Good for you?

Didn't Dan cry when someone "won" a WWE championship? I seem to remember hearing that story.

It's because both of those are terrible examples. Ryan was great at it, but he was committed, it was a way of life for him.

While he throws the occasional comment about how soccer is stupid etc he never really lays into it.

Atleast in videos/bombcast. I don't know about him on twitter.

Also, he isn't the new guy that everyone is looking to pick apart :)

As a life long football fan - crying fans and players are pretty funny and that it coming from someone who supports a really shit football team that has given plenty of reasons to be tearful.

It was a weak troll. Especially since he did the exact same troll before and then apologised saying that he was done poking fun.

Dan Ryckert @DanRyckert · Jun 27

I've probably been pretty annoying about the World Cup stuff. Tell you what...you can all enjoy that thing and I'll shut up about it.

Dan Ryckert @DanRyckert · Jun 27

I realized that I hear criticism about wrestling from people that don't follow/like wrestling and it's just dumb. I don't wanna be that guy.

I've never seen somebody with that much lack of general culture as Dan.

I would expect that from a 15 years old, not a 30y old.

Holy shit, stop watching wrestling and learn some stuff about the world you live in.

I guess that's the thing. Dan seems like a cool guy, he's largely backlash proof, he fits right in with the Giant Bomb status quo. But then again - he fits right in with the Giant Bomb status quo.

Anyway, I figured Dan would be a soccer fan considering they're the only other athletes who come close to selling fake injuries as well as wrestlers do.

I dunno if it's not Soccer it's something else. I've been watching him since he was at GI. To be honest he's WHY I did. His stories are really something else...but trolling and Dan Ryckert go together like Jeff and hating Yoshi do. It's not gonna change I don't think. Which is fine, whatever.

The idea of an adult human deriving joy from "trolling" people on twitter is one of the most singularly depressing I can currently muster.

Imagine being a fan, reading GB content and then see this stuff pop up on the main site? Good job.

Eh, who cares? People need to get over themselves and stop being so insecure about the things they like. I'm a big anime fan, but I'm not at all bothered by all the jokes and shit-talk that goes on.

Watching the Tour de France QL, god damn does it look like a piece of shit. I played a couple of those games years ago, and that series hasn't evolved at all since then. Looks like a PS2 game visually, the sound design is just garbage and the UI is straight out of 1998. I get that it's difficult to make a cycling game, but I'm surprised that whoever holds the license for this stuff allows it to be used in such a bad product.

edit: I just noticed that one of the devs for the game commented on Vinny's first Bot Colony video, haha.

Well that's terrific for you but it's not like Dan has been at GB for over a month yet. He's already had some controversy over his hiring and this wasn't helping...and anyway my point was it looks bad on the main site.

He's been around less than two weeks.

I will say it's really impressive how often members of the GB thread jump to conclusions.

I don't think personalities generally change for a 30yr old man. People get better at their jobs but that doesn't really change who they are. He fits in well for dudertainment but there's nothing really interesting about another cog.

Yikes, just read up on the Temkin thing. :

What a terrible situation. I don't even know what to believe; his response is the exact type that third wave feminists decry as part of the problem ("I didn't do it. She is lying. Maybe it was a mistake. This should have been kept private. My lawyer can hurt you. I am a feminist.") yet there really isn't anything more he could say if he is innocent.

The party line is that if someone accuses someone, we must listen and believe because rationalizing or excusing it away makes you part of the problem. So...?

Fuck.

I think the way you say it is that I didn't do it, and leave it at that.

For how sleazy that message was, it makes me super suspicious about it.

I'm not trying to argue with here when I say this; who do you think would have been a better fit?

So far from the videos and podcast: I kind of like Dan. Maybe a bit heavy handed into the duder-entertaiment... but common that is Giantbomb.

Thou the whole soccer thing just proofs twitter is a horrible venue for humor, trolling, sarcasm... Twitter = Asking for free problems.

I'm not trying to argue with here when I say this; who do you think would have been a better fit?

I honestly have no idea. I'm not on the side that thinks they should have hired X or Y just because or have beef with "qualifications". I just think it's a very stale, safe fit.

I know. Vinny did not know how to control me properly. I knew the dance command before vinny taught me it.

Clearly, you had to be trolling. Nobody would ever create such a broken piece of crap robot, let alone in a video game where they wouldn't have to worry about technical limitations and could just focus on making it fun!

Oh wait!

Nice dance moves btw.

Soccer fans are the most over sensitive babies. They'll screech about HANDEGG all day, but you're a xenophobe for not liking kickball.

I'm not trying to argue with here when I say this; who do you think would have been a better fit?

There is an alternate universe where GB hired someone unknown/diverse/'different' and this thread is filled with people complaining about how awkward they are on camera, how unfunny they are and how long will they have to wait for them to gel with the crew?

There really isn't that many people out there that can do this well without a lot of time to get comfortable. Which is why we saw so few realistic suggestions and why GameSpot spent a year getting Danny to SF and then reshaped their video content around him.

Anyway, every member of the crew (barring Vinny) has something people regularly complain about. At least we know early what Dan's thing is.

I'm not sure why the time frame matters. Also, that controversy doesn't reflect on him at all. Ironically, if anyone should have learned something from that incident, it's the fans that overreact act to people putting down something they like.

I guess the question is, why would you use twitter as any kind of public platform anyway?

Although I suppose bashing soccer is probably one of the more innocuous things you can do.

If Bot colony comes up in the next steam sale i am buying it!

Should have hired Danny away from GameSpot, he fits in nicely and yet has different tastes in games.

Yes, I realize it never could have happened since he is the face of GameSpots new, more personality focused site (which I think is a TERRIBLE idea, since their staff are robots and CBSi has GB filling that niche) But it would have been cool.

I think Dan thinks he's being a lot funnier than he is when he's winding up football fans. He's just being annoying. Like, I read those tweets as someone who generally despises the sport on every level, and I want him to stop.

I like Dan, but "le epic master troll xD" he is not. Also not the best way to endear yourself to a new audience.
