Why don't they play smash with less stocks? seriously takes forever.

It only takes "forever" in certain MUs. The higher-tiered characters VS each other tend to take under 3 minutes (Marth vs Sheik, Falco vs Fox, Captain Falcon vs Sheik, CF vs Marth, etc etc). When you get into floaty character match-ups (Young Link vs Jigglypuff as a good example) the matches do take longer because those characters aren't as fast and have to rely on their footsies/zoning/spacing to do well -- they have to put the pace of the match into their own favor.

Other fighting games have this. Different MUs will take a different amount of time to finish. Changing a rule set that has been well established for nearly 13 years is inane. 4 stocks has been standard since 2003-2004. Changing the stock count would be like changing the amount of rounds in Street Fighter because of characters like Dhalsim or Ryu who purposefully slow the match down to win.

Also, you can SD and 4 stocks let's you make comebacks even if you SD. Less stocks means less chances for comebacks (like what we saw in Hbox vs Armada and Hbox vs Mang0 today).
