What a freat tournament this was. Deserved champions and decent final. It's good to see an attacking team take the cup. It was so boring watching Spain for the last years.

In the end i think Germany was on another level overall. Even if they only beat Argentina by one goal, they never looked outclassed by any team.

See you guys in two years, i don't go to football threads cause even tho i do watch many european football i only root for Cruz Azul and there's not much talk about anything but wuropean stuff in those threads.

Photos 1 and 5 are old. Photos 6 and onwards in no way represent riots - just people gathering. And the guy who burned the buses is just a simple thug. That shit was in no way a riot.

There were no riots..

Indeed, compared to what has happened there before the WC, burning buses is nothing.
Oh well, glad this is over. Time to return to my diet and normal life.

Watched the game in a hotel lobby full of people. Thought it was a great match, lots of opportunities on both ends and really tense.

Beautiful goal to end it. When they showed the crying boy everyone was audibly going "awww" until he shoved away the person trying to comfort them, when it turned into laughter.

Awesome cup overall.

Goals Against in the top 4...
Points in the top 4...
Wins in the top 4...

Biggest travesty of this World Cup was Colombia being scared of a shadow and losing to Brazil. =\

Brazil controlled that match by pissing Colombia off and throwing them off their tempo. It was in no way a sportsman-like win. Things might have been different if Brazil was eliminated then.

I wonder if the German way will be adopted by other teams. In the sense of building a complex for the players to stay in the host country.

I'd love to see if that was possible in the US. The plan Germany had to build up their national team, starting with the youth squad, by working with all of the Bundesliga teams was so simple yet I'm surprised not many have adopted it.

Argentina pls. Don't be sore losers.

Respect to Brazil for how they took the defeats.

If you are saying this after seeing the riots, you should know that kind of people doesn't represent us in any way.
Like many comments pointed out, they just do it for a living and the government does little to nothing to fight it.

He meant the complex germans built in Brazil for their national team. Instead of renting an already existing facilities they built one from scratch.

Rioting like that is an unfortunate reality when Argentina loses. A hundred or so idiots incite destruction and violence and tarnish the whole thing for everyone else.

They don't represent the typical Argentine fan and are considered losers. Poor form. :/

He and Parreira both.

Thanks for the world championships, but it's time for modern thinking.

Well, we're not gonna get that.

The problem for this World Cup started when they threw Dunga and his team under the bus instead of building from it. I hope history doesn't repeat itself.

Gotcha but I think as far as that goes, you'd probably need to see if your country's infrastructure is willing to foot the bill like that. I think it'd still boil down to how to meet your national team's needs.

Again, the way the German national team is now set up, they've put so much work into building their team that I think something like building a complex for training in the host country is probably calculated in their budget.

I am happy this didn't go to penalties, but it wasn't the most exciting of games

Great goal by Germany. Messi didn't deserve best player award Imo

i slept expecting a germany win, oh well at least it wasn't a massacre
guess messi will just never win the world cup

now that barca is on a freefall i hope he goes into another league but that will never happen

Argentina is now 13-0-1 at the World Cup from teams not named Germany

Every single one of those defeats where they got knocked out has been at the hands of Germany

In 2006 they lost to Germany in quarter finals on penalties with messi on the bench when he was 18

In 2010 they lost to Germany in quarter finals 4-1 with messi in a junior role when he was 22

In 2014 they lost to Germany in the final 0-1 with messi the captain when he is 26

what a great captain

A picture doesn't capture the whole moment. I saw Messi motivating the team against Netherlands before the extra time. Yesterday, before the second half in the corridor along with Mascherano he called up all the Argentine players to gather around so he could say the words.

I can easily see Messi transitioning to a deeper-lying role or even a number 10-ish role that doesn't rely on mobility very well. It's very possible we've already seen the best Messi has to offer, but I think he'll age much better than Ronaldo, who's game is so heavily based on sheer physicality, out-muscling and out-pacing the opposition.

Messi will get another legitimate shot or two at this thing, I have no doubt about that.

Messi created 21 goal scoring chances , the most of any player in the World Cup, what more do you want when lavezzi di Maria higuaine and aguero failed to convert
What has that got to do with being a captain? Great provider = captain. That's hilarious.

He's got a point, Messi was overshadowed by Masche, maybe by choice.

Messi was leading by example, Masche was leading by example and words, both.

Unless he's on a great team like Klose I don't see how much a 34 year old Messi can do. Klose didn't even play the entire games he was either subbed off or subbed on.

Russia is his last best chance.
