The Blind Watch and Shores of Time maps look amazing! I keep watching those IGN tour videos of those maps. I'm studying them, I'm seeing some awesome potential with these maps.
Shores of Time looks phenomenal, but there are a few things about Blind Watch that have me concerned:
-Automatic Doors. This is obviously not Halo, but there was a map in Halo 2 called Gemini with automatic doors and it was a very good custodian of shotgun campers. I think Destiny's proximity radar might alleviate this problem, but I'm still worried about that moment you're shooting somebody and they step out of the door's sensor range to close it. Could get annoying fast.
-I also don't like the giant line of sight blocking pillar they have in that room by Zone B. It seems like it was deliberately placed after testing that zone and finding that it was difficult to capture. That's all well and good, but I think its implementation is a bit lazy.
-The awning over Zone C already looked annoying from that one gameplay video. It's not so much the fact that it's there, but rather that it's a high traffic area. My concern is that a good portion of the fighting will happen on or for that awning.
-The last thing that bothered me about Blind Watch is doesn't feel like it's on Mars. Shores of Time has the sulfur ponds and yellow tinge typical of Venus. First Light is instantly identifiable as the Moon, with a gray cratered landscape and round buildings seen in NASA concept art. Rusted Lands obviously looks like it's on Earth... and Blind Watch kinda does too. From an architectural standpoint, it doesn't communicate the fact that it's [the top of] a building in a metropolis. And then there's the scarcity of red since half of it is indoors and the signature sand dunes don't really make an appearance in the playable outdoor portions. The backdrop is nice, so why not dump some of that sand on the map?
This looks like Mars more than Blind Watch does, and that's one of its moons...
I don't mean to judge the map and count the chickens before they hatch here, especially having only seen one video of it in action. I am generally very pleased with the level design of the game and am looking forward to all the Crucible maps. For now though, Blind Watch's aesthetic and apparent gameplay have yet to impress me.
