Just because you don't like Marvel doesn't mean it wasn't a great Top 8.
I don't even know how this happened. This is like a Flutie hail mary across a 200-yard field.
People here in Europe have been studying the match up for years because of him, but he still wins a lot of tournaments.
That being said, I don't think he will win next year either. EVO is so demanding, especially SF. Such a crazy cast this year.
Seriously, Louffy probably had the biggest climb to victory ever.
No one else has ever put in as much work.
It's kinda hilarious to think what would have happened with Sako if he didn't pick Elena and get rocked that one time. Could have totally changed the way SF4 finals played out.

I think they're on Canada Cup's archives. You gotta pay a subscription to view if though. But Chris won two FT3's. 3-1 and then 3-0 if memory serves me right. Louffy was frustrated as hell, I wasn't surprised at all considering how much frustration Flip man must have put Chris through until he finally developed his own way to fight Rose.
I don't want to seem like I'm taking away from Louffy's win. But winning EVO also involves a lot of luck. Sure the guys he took out were real good, but he's also fortunate to avoid some of his worse match ups like Gamerbee who got knocked out before top 8, Ricky who got taken out by Snake Eyez, and Poongko who probably was sitting at home watching this like us. Tokido use to beat him all the time, but DWU was probably a game changer in their match up. His run was amazing, but with a game like SF4 that is match up heavy now, luck is also a factor.
Is that the adapter Luffy is using? I'm using the xtokki adapter that's the most recommended on Shoryuken, and it doesn't even support PS1 digital pads.
Awesome. Louffy did warm up stretches too, he was in character. And wow Luffy using a PS1 controller. Nothin' fancy, it gets the job done. AND he's from France! Next year more EU players will come down, should be interesting.Sums up the grand finals

Not if Sakurai doesn't put the effort into making it competitive. Smash U is slower than Melee, so that's already a strike against U, and if the balancing is as garbage as Brawl was then we won't see it taking off competitively.
Not that it matters to Nintendo, though.
I'm sorry but I agree with this. I have been watching louffy since 2010 and he has been the best Rose in the world for that long. (besides when Sako had a stint with her) so happy to see him win evo. The only thing that sucks now is that: Rose is gonna get nerfed in the next patch, there will be an army of rose players online now, and I can't downplay Rose anymore.

With the healing ultra to boot.
The definition of sandbagging would be using Elena with both ultras selected. That is a fighter's hell.
It's already faster than Brawl, so that helps. It doesn't have to be Melee fast or faster to be good. The main gripe with the E3/Best Buy build is the landing lag & the large amount of recovery frames.

I tried to watch smash but the matches were too long. Set the time to maybe 5 minutes. 8 seen forever

Man. Need some recap vids now to see why Prog was crying. Missed 97% of smash and slept through Marvel until the last match. Did see Filipino do his thing in the beginning though. He's still a beast.
Another year, another average Melee top 8 at Evo. Everything involving Axe was INCREDIBLE, and Hbox's run was damn good, but besides that... eh.
Such a shame, the top 8 at some other tourneys this year (MLG specifically) were hype as FUCK.

Yeah I know it's not 8-2 or anything.. But If I'm in top 8 I would have scout the other players better.. I mean if I happen to have an alt that counters Rose in any way, I would use her.. They had to know that he knew the matchup well..

What an incredible result. I am not serious about SF but Rose is my character and I love character loyalty. Amazing.
If I remember right, last year Luffy lost to Xian twice, once in winners, and once in losers, just before top 8.

Rose isn't gonna get nerfed just because a bunch of people are going to flood online. She isn't OP, she's been strictly mid-tier at best even with the Ultra buffs. Like Kadey said, it was a Louffy-only affair, it's not anything about her character specifically that'd warrant nerfing.

Namco is working with them so it should be okay. And so what the game is slower it can still be good. Just give it a chance.

It's not like Melee's balancing is good either. It's passable, but it's not good. Smash 4 is advantageous because of a little thing called balance patches.

As a Rose user, that's my first thought, but there's really nothing to worry about. They finally buffed her to where she's competitive, but not unfair, imho. Luffy won by playing out of his mind.
What was the next lowest-finishing Rose?
It makes me happy to see a character loyalist win Evo.
