2014 FIFA World Cup Final |OT| Germany defeats Argentina 1-0 after extra time

I can easily see Messi transitioning to a deeper-lying role or even a number 10-ish role that doesn't rely on mobility very well. It's very possible we've already seen the best Messi has to offer, but I think he'll age much better than Ronaldo, who's game is so heavily based on sheer physicality, out-muscling and out-pacing the opposition.

Messi will get another legitimate shot or two at this thing, I have no doubt about that.

True but Messi relies on pacing a lot too. But if there's any player that can change their play style to suit their age it's those two though.

Definitely. that was his most glaring difference between his performances this world cup and his performances at his best at Barcelona (Pep era, in particular) I think; he didn't run at all this tournament. not sure what's been up with Messi this season, thought he might be saving himself for the cup but it seems he hasn't been at the same level of fitness he was a couple years ago. (something something pep something something doping)

but I think Messi is a good enough player technically that he can rely on that to keep possession and be a damn good passer. the days of scoring 70 goals a season could be over though, especially with Barcelona getting an actual striker in Suarez.

I was surprised to only see two flags on my way to work, no jerseys, no shawls, no drunk people, no smiling people. Back to business in Germany.

Unless he's on a great team like Klose I don't see how much a 34 year old Messi can do. Klose didn't even play the entire games he was either subbed off or subbed on.

Russia is his last best chance.

It's also because Klose is the only out and out striker the Germans had. Not that he isn't an amazing player, coming on as a sub he changes the entire way Germany attacks and makes them a lot more dangerous. Not many guys are able to do that sort of thing, especially at his age.

What a freat tournament this was. Deserved champions and decent final. It's good to see an attacking team take the cup. It was so boring watching Spain for the last years.

In the end i think Germany was on another level overall. Even if they only beat Argentina by one goal, they never looked outclassed by any team.

See you guys in two years, i don't go to football threads cause even tho i do watch many european football i only root for Cruz Azul and there's not much talk about anything but wuropean stuff in those threads.

Same here man ill be watching some european games but.won't post in the futbol thread also in the liga mx I'm going to be watching Chivas play. Copa America and Copa de Oro. Hopefully we can finally see Vela, Gio and Chicharito play together next.year. Until next time my friend.

also, don't forget: Zidane put in one of the all time great world cup performances at age 34

if Messi plays at age 34, it won't be as a striker. but his days of playing striker are over; he played as a 10 at this tournament, he'll probably play as a 10 next season when Suarez's ban is done

Messi throwing up is nothing new.

BWA-HAHAHAHAHA!

I can totally imagine Higuain or Aguero singing "Fue Culpa Mía" on the changing rooms amidst a lot of depressed players!

Seriously? This game or earlier in the tournament? And by any chance got a picture or video link from when it happened?

What's up with Messi puking on games? It's his third of fourth time on this WC...

Its Official guys even the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, is better than England at football. Talk about embarrassment

Given the players we (England) have that's right though. It is embarrassing. The FAA have decided they like the fat sacks of cash money that the premier league brings in all around the world more than committing and developing less flashy but home grown talent like Germany have.

What do England want? A good league that's one of the showpieces of football around the world or international success. I want international success but the FA are making their bed differently.

It's more than tactics or managerial issues, the FA needs an overhaul.

FIFA-GAF, can you guys tell me when these jerseys are from? I've always wanted a nice deep green goalie jersey. I found out that Neuer had one but can't seem to find out from when it is, or even less a place to buy one of them. Apparently Chelsea also has a green and gold goalie jersey? Can anybody confirm that?

it is just something that happens
All this downplaying makes it's so suspicious. Cause and effect. Everything in the body happens for a reason, whether we are aware of them or have detected them or not. Him trying to pretend that "it just happens" is complete bull. Maybe this is the price he will pay for the rest of his life.

Mario Götze - Vielen Dank - Ein Gott unter den Menschen
Mario Götze - Thank you - A god among men

How can he be that icecold in the 113th minute in overtime of a final? I still dont know how he shoot that awesome goal, but I'm glad he did it...

Well, I'm not the greatest fan of German national team and you guys have the most obnoxious fans, both on GAF and overall online but I can wholeheartedly say you guys deserved it. You were the best team this tournament, and for this, and for the last 12 years, you guys truly deserved it like no other team. I smiled when I saw the team win, when everyone looked overjoyed, when Podolski came into the field with his son, when Loew was finally happy for once. Congratulations[b/]! In a couple of months when you eliminate us (Poland) from Euro 2016 and in 2 years during Euro 2016 I'll come around once again to semi-fake-hate your team and hate your obnoxious fans, but right now I'm really happy for you guys. Great job.

The game itself was surprisingly great. Very close, very tense. Far, far above the last two WC Finals. I heard some people complain that it was boring but I disagree, the tension was through the roof and both the teams played great football. Not really the best showcase of football this tournament (though Goetze's goal was beautiful), but that rarely happens in the final and I'm happy it turned out how it turned out. The tension was through the roof and honestly it could have gone either way.

Now to wait 4 years...

maybe he just gets really nervous

think that's what his coach said or someone

he gets it at home too. he's just sitting in his living room, dry heaving? yeah that's not normal. all these cocktails of doping have their effect but can have a price as well. since it's linked with Human Growth Hormone it's possible it's the cause, he's not the only athlete who has these symptoms, from what i understand.

I've puked during a game. i never took drugs.
how is "a game" even remotely the same as many games and training sessions as well as recreational situations? of course you can puke, especially with certain food and intensive exercise. also he's not puking, he's dry heaving, and i think one time some water came out. but they do drink a lot so that's no surprise really.

Thanks!

First one is from the 2010 WC, 2nd one from Euro 2012, no idea where to find them online tho.

We know? Link please?

Frankly, if (and I don't believe it) Messi took something you can bet 99% of football players on any club or national team are probably using the same or similar stuff.

Barca paid for his treatment for a diagnosed human growth disorder as a child.

It's disgusting that people continue to try and use it as some sort of slight against his ability or morality.

And don't forget the two polish players (Podolski and Klose) in the german team. Without them the WC for Germany wouldn't have happened.

You can be proud as well... :)

Uhh the US already finished ahead of England at the 2010 World Cup...

It honestly will not surprise me if England never finish better than US again. The sport in US is on the rise and the national team seems to be improving consistently. The same can't be said about England...

The Golden Generation got their cup.

And I can't believe that 7 Bayern players were on the pitch at the end. 7.

Finally....FINALLY. And of all people to shoot the deciding goal it was Götze, who I had criticized during the entire tournament. Never has crow tasted sooo good *_*

Once I'm back home from work I need to edit this avatar. Not. Enough. STARS

EDIT: And once it becomes available I need to buy the new Trikot with 4 stars and Klose's name *_*

Who said I did? I just said we know that during his youth he got a lot of drugs in order to have a shot at becoming a top footballer. If it's a slight against someone's morality, it's Barcelona's, not Messi's. It could be that this will have its toll later on.

Wow what a douchebag.

Edit: Holy shit at the puking tinfoil hatters.

Please tell us who's hating? Can't be me, i'm a Barca fan and a admirer of Messi. It's also not tinfoil if there's at least a connection or possibility that's not very unlikely. We also all know that media likes to run with things but to discard it just like that not level headed either.

Exactly. And where not cheering it either. I don't wish him bad health.

Sorry, even though I was responding to JJD who quoted you I wasn't referring to your post.

My bad.
