Nintendo Downloads - July 2014

Haven't played the original since I only acquired the NES cart a few months ago, but Metroid II is excellent and rather impressive.
Metroid II also has an amazing soundtrack. The main theme is one of the best songs on Game Boy period.

Keep in mind CV2 is different from any other game in the series. It's sort of halfway between the classic formula and the metroidvanias, to disastrous results. It might be better with save states, but it's generally regarded as one of, if not the worst 2D game in the series.
It's far from the worst, that honor goes to the GB trilogy (Adventure 1-2 and Legends). It's also not really the first "adventure" game it the series, that would be Vampire Killer on MSX2.

I heard Adventure 2 was pretty good, but I am still waiting on a VC release. Legends though was just as awful, if not more, compared to the first afaik.

COLOR ZEN

Buy it if you like Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient or artists like Sango. Really great experience and not in a bullshit way. So good.

Yaaaaasss Earthbound will be mine.

Another meh week, though at least there's Kirby and the Earthbound sale.

...

Wait a minute, wasn't there supposed to be an indie game coming out on July 24? Yeah, where's Wooden Sen'sey? :o

Nightmare in Dreamland isn't too different from Adventure, though you do get a mode where you play as Meta Knight.

Speaking of Knight.....

That EarthBound sale is pretty awesome. Color me surprised! I wish Nintendo would do more Virtual Console sales like this.

Fixed that for ya.

By the way, wasn't Earthbound released exactlty one year ago?... It actually came out on July 18, so that makes sense :)

Any VC price reduction is good news. Better if a SNES game.

(unfortunally i already own Earthbound since at this time last year there was really nothing to play..)

VC games are too expensive. They really need to be on sale more often...

Since when is Earthbound on the eShop?! For 3DS, right?

How the hell did I miss this.
Wii U, and since last year. It's been a big deal, I have no idea how you missed it. Was announced in a Direct and released immediately after.

Co-signed.

He's the worst thing to happen to retro video games behind morons blowing into cartridges.

Yeah he cause the ripple effect of more people reviewing retro games thus causing their prices to stupidly sky rocket for no good reason.

Wii U Virtual Console
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land €6.99/£6.29

Sweet, I am getting this and deleting the horrible European version of Kirby Adventure.

I'll take 25% off Earthbound gladly. Shame I can't get Steel Diver Subwars Premium

You should definitely watch it till the end, it has a mindblowing story twist.
It was
funded by IndieGoGo!!1
Wonder why The Letter was taken off the Wii U eShop, quality aside of course.

I bought both Steel Diver Premium and Earthbound at full price, recently. Ah well.

Kirby and Little Inferno will be mine, though.

Unless the game has a major game breaking bug, I really doubt it's been taken off the eShop, prob an eShop error. Their twitter account doesn't say anything about it being gone.

Bought the PacMan collection gba game on my jaw wii u. And next week, one of the special jap glad games will be released : kurukuru kururin 😃

Nice, only have my Wii U two weeks and it's paying off already. I hadn't enough credit for Earthbound and I didn't want to get a new card for it and now I don't have to cause I have enough for the sale. :)

I've never played Earthboud, nor fully understood its hype aura.
Should I buy it now with the deal?

It's a great RPG and when it was released was one of the only RPGs that had a more modern setting. That being said, the fanbase has hyped it up so much over the years that if you're expecting the second coming you'll be disappointed. It's really just a good RPG and compared to the many generic fantasy SNES RPGs it has strength in its own identity.

It's worth playing, just keep your expectations in check.

Sir, how's your game doing, saleswise? I hope things are at least ok, so far.

Little slow so far. I learned the hard way to not release a game on same day as 5 other indies, esp if 2 of them are high profile. Not to mention the big VC release that week. haha. My game, and like 2 others from that day were pretty much buried under that heavy release day. I have confidence it will pick up eventually, esp when I eventually do a sale.

My current plan with the game (outside of sales), is to continuously support the game via updates for improved features, fixes, and additions. When the game eventually has a lot more to it over the next few months, I see it doing better do to better word of mouth and actually better known.

I have a current small patch with Nintendo now to fix a few small annoying issues, and currently working on the first major patch that actually improves the game and adds new stuff.

Have you thought about reaching out to a site like Nintendo Life for an interview or announcement? They tend to have a big readership I think and always seem interested in writing about indies.

Nintendo Life gave 4/10 to his game, but judging by the miiverse comments, is a fun little game, specially in a genre that doesnt have many games in the wii u eshop

Pretty much waiting on getting first patch out before I try any additional coverage (at least more than what I'm doing now), as 1st patch will have much improvements/fixes/etc. Though that won't be too long from now.

Yeah, reviews were mixed. The negative reviews do however help me improve the game. So I'm thankful for them. The user impressions has been mostly positive and I've gotten a lot of good feedback from users, esp from miiverse. Already have been able to improve the game a lot thanks to miiverse, a great tool for developers really. Now to get that 1st patch out there! :lol

Awesome stance to take btw, kudos. :)
