And Lucina is clone character in moveset from the most popular Fire Emblem game, as in more people likely actually know her from FE. Hell she was even revealed as Marth and called as such in the game.

Just in case people are still asking this friggin question, Lucina was a wide banner on the ssb site at first, when they were first updating it. It just said "newcomer" to the right of her, someone has the image in the thread here. They likely opted to shrink it down to a small square banner because it was the only wide banner that didn't have a piece of art on the righthand side of it, and looked fairly awkward. (Mii fighters as the exception, since there are three of them and they fill the banner up themselves.) Lucina and Robin SHARE a piece of art, it features both of them, and they opted to attach it to Robin's banner. Since Lucina doesn't have a separate piece of art, her banner doesn't need to be wide. Robin's wide banner is wide for the both of them.

It's weird how people can be "disappointed" with these newcomers.
I don't even play Fire Emblem. That said, the series deserves representation from Awakening considering its success. Newcomers from that game should have been expected.
Why have more third party characters when the first party franchises still don't have all the bases covered, especially when it comes to newer games?
Also, more female characters is a fantastic thing, even if one is just a gender swap.

The biggest issue people have against snake is his lack of Nintendo history compared to others. Regardless that he was in brawl and like you said easily one of the most unique characters to play.
I did that and it was a beautiful story arc.

I'm not saying I want female characters kept out or something, but in this case I think with Chrom and Lucina being so similar the only thing she had over him that got her picked was being female. I wanted Lyn to be the 3rd FE rep before she was confirmed as an assist trophy, because she is both female and different from the others, whereas Lucina is only female and really not different from the others further than that.

I'm sure all of the newcomer videos will be done before the release of the game, so we'll know before September if the rest of the leak pans out. I like that the leaker insists that Shulk is 100% in the game though, just like he did with Pac-Man and Mii in the leak before the Smash direct.

Because Nintendo doesn't just have a collection of great female characters that lend themselves well to fights and fans have wanted to see more from them over the years especially as the Smash cast got larger. No, it just has to be "because feminism".
You're crazy. Furthermore, Chrom was the worst choice they could have went with assuming the next FE character inclusion after Marth/Ike was the last one.

I don't want to say too much, because I'm sure you're already getting enough flak from the other users, but Smash Bros is a Nintendo-based franchise. The majority of players would be horrified if a non-Nintendo franchise/guest series got 2 character slots in a game that stars Nintendo characters. (in my own opinion.)

Zelda has 4 characters, (as of Brawl) Star Fox has 3, Kirby has 3, I doubt this had any effect on whether Snake returns or not, fuck Sonic's shitty-ass friends, and F-Zero doesn't need anymore characters. Samurai Goro would pretty much be the only other option, and we don't need anymore sword characters.
So that leaves you with Metroid and Advance Wars, and given the state of those two franchises, do you really think we'll get anything else? Unlikely. And we all know what the deal is with Sakurai and Metroid.

NES Metal Gear and Twin Snakes are considered two of the worst games in the series, from what I've seen and read over the years.
There just isn't much of a positive association, there.
