Lucina, Robin AND FEMALE ROBIN, & Captain Falcon Are Today's Smash Newcomers!

Hey, can you be less of a dick next time?

I think I'm just going to stay out of Smash threads from now on...

And fine, yes I was being a bit of a jerk. Sorry.

EDIT:

Mass Effect, you're being a jerk and you should probably stop doing that.

(Note: This is me agreeing with you.)

So hyped for Lucina and Robin. Especially since the design they went with for the male Robin was the exact same one I used when I first played FE:A.

Hope their look is customizable for everyone else who used a different design though

Is Robin from Fire Emblem A?
What differentiated the male and female ver. of thecharacter?

Yeah Robin is the lead character of Fire Emblem Awakening but actually (s)he's your avatar. At the start of the game you customize the character including the gender.

I'm glad Robin and Lucina were picked as the Awakening reps, but I feel bad for people who wanted Chrom.

It's nice to see Captain Falcon again, too, although there was never any doubt he'd be back.

I still hope Shulk makes it in, though.

I feel like there's too many sword users in this game now.

Ike

Marth

She-Marth

Robin I guess?

Meta Knight

Link

Toon Link

Mii Sword

Pit
and possibly Shulk

Eh, I dunno. I guess as long as they're different from each other

There are far more brawling fighters than swordsman and gunners combined. I'd wager that half of the roster is brawlers.

Here's the reason why Fire Emblem has more characters over series like Metroid.

Metroid has the same protaganist in every game, allowing you to only play as the protaganist.

Fire Emblem has a different protaganist for the majority of their games, and you control up to 30 characters in each game. Most of those characters don't get much story and aren't iconic leaving the main characters as the only real choices for Smash Bros (sorry Tharja/Anna).

While the Metroid enemies are more iconic than Fire Emblem (Fire Emblem doesn't have an antagonist in Smash); they have to be shoehorned into Smash (especially Kraid).

Donkey Kong is probably personal taste with Sakurai.

The more female characters the merrier but out of so many compelling females in FE they had to choose the girl that looks exactly like a long haired Marth? They could almost be male/female coutnerparts just as Robin has both.

I think she was chosen exactly because they could reuse Marth's animations without it being odd. In spite of the site placing her separately from Marth, we haven't seen a single original battle animation from Lucina yet.

It also helps that she was an important character and fan favorite, even if she actually wasn't more important than Chrom (or Robin).

Don't care much for Lucina, unless I can pick her masked form as well. Robin on the other hand is a great choice, as he/she have the potential of being extremely versatile with many options. And kudos foe including Female Robin as well— that's how I went through my game.

Now I'm wery of the prospects of actually adding Shulk; as much as I want someone representing Xenoblade, I feel there are too many characters with swords already.

Just woke up to see all of this madness. I nearly shed a tear watching the trailer thinking Chrom would be playable, I lost when he said that the will get his chance another day. Well at least I'm super excited for Lucina and Robin. Love those two!

This isn't the power of the Monado!
Oh well. If Shulk comes I plan to main him. Captain Falcon's one of friend's main, so that's good news.

still no Ness, sigh................

He'll come. We just got Captain Falcon after all, so they're still rolling out veterans.

Um wow. 2 new characters and Captain Falcon? Did not expect such a big announcement.

Sakurai doesn't mess around. My Wii U and 3DS are ready.

Why are people mad about Robin? It hits two birds with one stone - a lead/important character and a character who doesn't fight like the current FE cast in Smash.

Super disappointed with the choices. The Fire Emblem characters just aren't very interesting to me. One or two is fine. But three or four? Damn. Put in Simon Belmont. He was too important to the history of video games. Bring back Snake even. Or some other oddball Nintendo character. I just don't like that the game already has a lot of generic looking humanoid characters like the queen from Kid Icarus and now all of these FE characters. It ruins the appeal for me a bit. I want my colorful cast of iconic Nintendo brands.

Looks like Robin uses the bronze sword by default and can somehow at some point switch to the levin sword.

Really interested to know how he works. Are different tomes tied to different specials (arcwind is up b?) or does his down special switch books and neutral does the power? Are the different elements just changeable custom moves? It's very unique but also very confusing.
I'm loving how many unique play styles we're getting with this game. Hype!
