This thought occurred to me yesterday:

Now that there's no subspace, a considerable amount of work is going to go into unlocking all the characters in this game.

I know several of my friends are upset about a lack of a story mode, but I personally only played it to unlock everyone- Since I love the roster, I'm really excited to play as allll the newcomers, but it's likely going to take a while.

This trailer makes me realize, perhaps the reason why the veteran dripping is so slow is because Sakurai is saving certain veterans for new character trailers.

I could imagine Wario showing up in the Rhythm Heaven rep trailer.

Exactly, that's what I loved about melee lol unlocking all the characters was fun in that game unlike brawl

I'm pretty sure all Sakurai said is that there's no CG cutscenes. Story mode could still be in.

I mean you can't say "There will be no unlockables/hiddens" based off this.

I never said anything about there being no unlockables, and I disagree. It's odd that there appear to be no hidden Mario or Fire Emblem characters, and that even characters like Toon Link and Captain Falcon were revealed.

Hm I'm thinking there will probably be some unrevealed characters, but having 4 Fire Emblem characters and characters like Toon Link as starters seems pretty weird. So I dunno what methods we're seeing here.

This roster is absolutely insane. Sakurai wasn't kidding when he said he wanted to make this the #1 character game of all time. I hope he goes apeshit and the roster ends up around 60 by the end of its life cycle. Snake, Mewtwo, Ridley, Rayman, Crash, Impa, K. Rool, Takamaru, Chorus Kids, Shulk...

Add them all Sakurai.

The worst thing that can happen to Lucy is making her a significantly weaker version of Marth.

Because if that happens, then she's going on the Roy route and this will be the last time we ever see her playable in a Smash game.

So, thinking this all over, here's what I'm thinking could be the timeline if the Gematsu leak is real (if not accurate)

1) Outset of development; the leaker is on staff and is aware of the character choices, including Chrom and "Pokemon X/Y."
2) Leaker is quit/fired/leaves development.
3) Greninja gets a name/final design. Chrom isn't shaping up well, so they replace him with Robin.
4) Realizing they have extra dev time (or deciding to drop either Shulk or Chorus Men), Sakurai and team have time to add a few clones. This would have to be the same time the newcomer trailer CGI goes into production, so probably at least a year ago.
5) Leaker leaks his information, not knowing about these changes before E3.

Maybe they decided Lucas was cut and that's why they had clone time, I dunno. I don't think we can discount Gematsu yet, since we already know a lot of his info was preliminary.

Plus with the item unequip sound when he threw the book out. I think it may be possible he can't grab items while holding the book. (Like again turnips.)

What doesn't make sense here though, is the leaker having any reason to think that he knows Shulk, specifically, is going to be revealed today if he/she is no longer working there. Also, why split the info into chunks? Clearly the person doesn't care that much that they're spoiling the game...

It's probably a rechargeable attack. Consume until empty, then press the special button and have a waiting animation to replace the spell book.
