Yoshi had a splash screen too lol. There's really nothing to compare it to because we've never had an alt costume of a different character before, and we haven't had a clone newcomer for this new Smash before.

Yeah, we haven't had an alt costume of a different character before, which makes me wonder why you are doubling-down so much on this alt costume idea.

It's about reasonable assumptions, obviously nobody can know for sure right now. But we can make an educated guess that given what we know about all other reveals, that she is a new character that is probably mostly a clone.

There is open-mindedness, then there is arguing for the sake of arguing.

By the way, I would make an avatar bet on this but I have a feeling you wouldn't take it if you even see this post at all.

Wow, I slept through the announcement but man what a perfect trailer. Robin in - my most wanted Fire Emblem character and one of the few newcomers I was really hoping for. Lucina as a Marth clone - also near the top of my list. Awesome new trailer. Gematsu leak being thrown into question.

The hype is real...! The scales have officially been tipped.

I'm probably alone on this matter but I'm starting to witness a palpable disjuncture between characters with cartoony proportions vs those with more human/real ones.
Peach and Rosalina look so out of place there and the same applies to the male crew.
I know that in a game like Smash proportions mean shit but it is starting to look weird.

I think Brawl's art style helped the more realistic characters blend in. Lucina, Robin and Sheik look kind of odd with their muted colors compared to the others.

So do people still think Sakurai isn't revealing hidden characters?

I still don't think he is. We're probably looking at something similar to Brawl though, where there'll be a very low number of unlockable newcomers.

Although, considering that Lucina, it seems like Sakurai isn't against Melee type clones anymore. So maybe we'll get an inflated roster with stuff like Dark Pit being a separate clone character this time.

I'd consider Villager male, WFT female, and Robin male if we had to put them in one or the other given that their initial introduction used those genders respectively.

Mii, idk I need to look at it again

(this is kinda pointless though, they obviously count for both)
Bolded acknowledged, but for the sake of arguing:

Since the banner on smashbros.com shows both genders for Robin I don't feel you can put him as a male as easily as Villager, where the banner only shows his male character art.

So Puff and Ness are the only N64 veterans left, hope Puff gets revealed soon and is shown with Melee Rest instead of Brawl Rest

This trailer makes me realize, perhaps the reason why the veteran dripping is so slow is because Sakurai is saving certain veterans for new character trailers.

I could imagine Wario showing up in the Rhythm Heaven rep trailer.

The reveal isn't out of the realm of possibilities, even if it looks slim.

If anything I would have thought today's reveal would be more fitting for the Handheld Smash direct than something like Shulk or Chorus Men could be.

Chorus Men would probably make for a good fit though, right? Plus, you need 3DS games coming out for a handheld smash direct.

Counterpoint: Villager's Alts were supposed to be a surprise, I guess, for way later on, as was Wii Fit Trainers?

Then again, they could have updated the banner.

EDIT: MY BAD WOW I should have read the post this quoted.

Any one kinda apathetic about these new reveals? Not having played Awakening might have something to do with it, but there were several character reveals where I wasn't familiar with or didn't particularly care for the character, but their moveset looked so good, I still ended up hyped(Little Mac, Greninja). I didn't have that same reaction with these reveals.

We have another blue-haired sword user, who is, even worse, a Marth clone; and another swordsman, which would be fine if it didn't look like he/she had generic, dull sword moves. I guess a fireball with a sword was supposed to make this character interesting. Hardly. Oh, and a totally unsurprising Captain Falcon reveal, consisting of him doing nothing interesting and staying totally silent in the trailer, since we all know Falcon's Engrish voice actor has a vocab limited to little more than "Falcon Punch" and "come on."

Just a lackluster showing all around as far as I'm concerned.

I suddenly notice that Palutena's head is cut in this art...

This may be mentioned/speculated already, but my best guess is that Robin's moveset will depend on the book or tome he carries.

Also, nice that we have another character with a male/female option.

Yes to the bolded. Hell no to the rest.

Robin should be pretty cool. At the very least, a mage isn't something we've seen before, and the destructible moves are... unique.

Did you even watch the video? Robin is a heavy magic user.

Edit: And as others have said, he has an entirely new mechanic.

Chorus Men are platform agnostic. They are on handheld and consoles. Not a very good choice to show off a handheld rep.

The Handheld Smash direct which will probably be inmid tto late August will focus on the Handheld version and it's unique modes. They will probably show a new character there which is why an actual handheld franchise IP character would be a perfect place to be shown.

There doesn't have to be any new 3DS games shown. The direct is just for Smash 3DS. The character could be from any major handheld series. Isaac, Fawful, advance wars, who knows.

Also it's very likely we get two more Newcomer videos which Jigglypuff in one and Ness in the other.

Its crazy to me that people are complaining that Robin looks generic. He has a very unique moveset from what I can tell.

also lots of really cool animations that change based on the tome it seems the way he moves when attacking nosferatu vs wind looks really cool really excited also that thoron

Robin looks mostly magic-based to me, and they were probably the most interesting FE character you could realistically pick, so I'm happy with that.

I can take or leave Lucina, but it's good for her fans that she's in, even as a clone. Maybe she will be different enough from Marth that she will be a fun alternative for Marth players.

We know that they don't have many characters left to reveal. This effectively means nothing.
Uh... exactly, they don't have many characters left to reveal. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a single Fire Emblem unlockable character, and I'd be surprised if there was a fourth/fifth Fire Emblem character.

I'd agree with you in your last sentence though :)
I have no idea what you were trying to communicate, but I don't think it's relevant to what I was asking.

Outside of small cameos though, they were only on DS. Rhythm Heaven has had two portable entries and one console one. I don't know, kinda makes sense to me. Fire Emblem as a series has also appeared on other platforms, and Marth and Ike showed up in the trailer.

This roster is absolutely insane. Sakurai wasn't kidding when he said he wanted to make this the #1 character game of all time. I hope he goes apeshit and the roster ends up around 60 by the end of its life cycle. Snake, Mewtwo, Ridley, Rayman, Crash, Impa, K. Rool, Takamaru, Chorus Kids, Shulk...

Add them all Sakurai.

I mean you can't say "There will be no unlockables/hiddens" based off this.

I want to say that most of the complaints are about another clone.

But then yeah, some people would still complain about FE having 4 reps even if we had gotten someone on something like a horseback instead.

people would still complain if Lucina was replaced by Anna (especially people that wouldn't watch the video and go "god damn it another sword user"), so yeah
