Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Do we know the gender of all of the pokemon in smash?

Is jiggly male or female? Is pikachu male or female? Should we consider them gender neutral? Do female charizards look different than male, and therefor the char in smash is male, etc?

Is there any documentation where it says 'he' or 'she' in a trophy?

Need to know the genders for
  • Pikachu
  • Lucario
  • Charizard
  • Greninja

Trying to make a list

Pikachu is male. None of the others have gender differences to go off of, though Lucario sounds like a man, and Charizard and Greninja are males 7/8ths of the time. However, Ivysaur was apparently a girl in Brawl despite having the same odds, so who knows.

Don't know why anyone would consider Fire Emblem "overrepresented." It's a pretty venerable franchise. Four characters from Fire Emblem makes more sense than, say, three characters from Star Fox.

But we still need a new Donkey Kong character plz. ;_;

Yeah, at this point DK just doesn't have enough characters. Only over-represented series is Mother, and arguably Kid Icarus I guess, especially if we're getting Dark Pit as a clone.

I can almost promise you that Lucario is male

*goes on desktop*

o:

That is strange then to keep her as a veteran size for desktop and newcomer size for mobile.

I'll still say she's not an alt.

Male wii fit trainer and female robin didn't get their own separate pages.
True, but they also aren't different people in the fiction, they're customizations of the same character/person. Lucina is an entirely separate human who is
just imitating Marth.
It makes sense along the lines of what Sakurai said before, of not wanting to turn characters into other characters through a costume swap. Instead, treat the costume swap as a different character.

I'm with you though. I'm thinking her moves will have slightly different properties and she'll be a clone, like we've known from Melee. It's just that from the moves we've seen so far, it's hard to tell a difference. We need a side by side gif of Marth and Lucina doing the moves we've seen from her so far.

So... where is the analysis? there is a user here I think DaBoss who makes some really amazing posts analysing the characters :)

of course, T stands for Tharja... right? right?!

You can only expect an assist trophy on that!

I have been rewatching the trailer a lot in order to get all the references.
What I can't believe is that Sakurai did change Ike's flames to blue :) he listens! (I think..)

How great would it be if Smash rounds out the male/female alts with a heart-tailed female pikachu?

I like to see more Fire Emblem characters too but they could have chosen more than just sword based characters. There are too many now and I feel like because of that, we might not get Shulk any more. Oh well.... as long as we see Ness or Lucas then I'll be happy.

I really hope Dark Pit is relegated to an alternate outfit for Pit.

Yep, that's him. Not sure if he's working on anything at the moment or not. Either way, these things take time. I'm guessing within the next few days we'll hear from either DaBoss, or GameExplain, or Smashboards posters with a closer look.

Pikachu's tail makes him a dude, Jigglypuff is either a girl or a cross dresser. The other two are ambiguous I think.

Pikachu is male

Female Pikachu has a heart shaped tail end I am pretty sure.

Jigglypuff has female-specific costumes but is always referred to as "it."

I would say they're all men, but the only one confirmed male is Pikachu.

Ok, i'll mark them all as male for now, until proven otherwise. The rest do have 'masculine' voices.

I'd like that. It could make the hitbox on his tail attacks weird though, so it's understandable if they don't. I'm already damn impressed at how many females there are this time around.

Why is this one of the screenshots chosen for the main site

Where is his neck

like i am legit just

oh my god

not only do we FINALLY have an FE character who can actually represent a huge component of the battle element of the series, we have two girls

This is the good shit. This is just... this is a dream come true. I lost all hope. I thought we'd lame it out with Chrom and we'd get nothing more and nothing else but like... I officially don't care about any other newcomers, whether they come or not.

FE is finally getting some of its' fucking dues.

Eh, you think? They're about as different as Marth and Lucina. They even actually fight differently!
Marth and Lucina aren't the same height or size. One is a guy and one is a girl.

Pit and Dark Pit are exactly the same size and shape.

To be honest though I wouldn't care if there were clones like melee again. Bring them on. More characters more fun.

So I organized every character by franchise

I think what's most obviously missing is a Star Fox rep (Falco) and some franchises (Ness, Mr. Game & Watch) and maybe a Pokémon (Jigglypuff or Mewtwo ?) since Fire Emblem now has as many reps (which I'm grateful for)

Pikachu is definitely male based on the tail. Generally speaking, Charizard and Lucario are usually referred to as male whenever they appear outside of the main Pokemon games. Both lack any sort of gender differences so I think its reasonable to assume they're males. Greninja is probably the same way.

Also, Sakurai confirmed for working on a new Captain Falcon game when he's taken a vacation after Smash pls

Although particularly I dont think it matters. You can refer to them as whatever gender you want lol.

Oh boy I am getting excited for Robin, especially if they include alts for his alternate hair designs/colors like with Villager.

I'm imagining there's a "switch weapon" special move, let's guess down-B, that toggles between lightning/wind. And maybe dark, since that was in there. And maybe the levin sword. Cause I don't see too much reason for the bronze sword to ALSO be in there. I bet the bronze sword is basically the "oh shit I used up all my tomes and my levin sword is broke" default, and puts Robin in a no-Nana Popo mode to some extent. A character that finally encompasses the true mechanics of Fire Emblem, using different powerful moves when appropriate but to a finite limit.

I expect the spells to be pretty powerful to counteract the fact that you can only use them so many times. Boy it just sounds like fun to play.

Looks like confirmation that Falco's stage entrance hasn't changed.

Also, confirmation that Sakurai doesn't care about spoilers (along with Lucina calling Chrom her dad). Better finish Xenoblade!

Dark Pit will be alternate color. Otherwise Dark Pit will be very limited in alternate colors and wouldn't be too different from hero Pit. Dark Purple Pit? Dark Peach Pit? Light Yellow Dark Pit? Bwah?

Base on gender ratios in-game, Jigglypuff is most likely female while Greninja, Charizard, and Lucario are most likely male. Pikachu is the only confirmed one.

If Pittoo appears as a separate character while Dark Samus (main villain of three games and a completely unique fighter) is just an assist trophy, I will riot.

reposting from the other thread. Also, because i am sooo late, i cant be sure if this was alreday discussed or not... (probably yes):

I am REALLY late, just saw the news.

Lucina is marth but without the added properties, that marth has, when hitting with the tip of the sworm.

Marth sword attacks have a different effect (the blue effect when you use a sword attack) at the tip of the sworm, so the player can see with what part of the sword he has to hit the oponent with to get the tip properties (at the tip of the sword the colour is different, clearer if i remember correctly). So, marth sword attacks have two effects: one from the begining of the sword to the tip, and another one on the tip.

Lucina only has one effect (same blue colour effect from the begining of the sword to the tip).

can this be or not!?

Including male and female versions of the same character as 2 entries:

Brings the roster up to 40 if you include male/female versions of the same character as 2 separate characters, meaning 12/40 are female, or 30%
