Fighting Games Weekly | July 14-20 | Bracket Resets Full of Tears (of Joy?)

I still don't get how no Force Breaks makes the game easier.
EX moves are more beneficial for newcomers, since it would allow for an easier use of meter.
Most newcomers aren't gonna worry as much about RCing, or even connecting their Overdrives.
Force Breaks gave them a good alternative, but now most new/bad players will end up sitting on tons of meter without having any use for it.

I'm speaking from experience of course.

Feel free to explain why

Depending on the char, you're going to need certain things to happen. With Plat, you need every last item you can get because without them, you're going to be doing barely anything. She relies on them pretty heavily from neutral to pressure to set ups to conversions to just having a reversal. With Teddie in P4A, items basically are his entire neutral and oki game. With both of those characters, you can control so much just by knowing what item is next, it's ridiculous. With Faust, it's a bit less reliant but he still needs them to keep doing what he does. He just gets so much out of them.

Like, certain things about the character just work, but items are not supllemental, they are fundamental.

Also, I cannot see why Platinum would be unearned randomness in your system. You have an item preview so you know what's going to happen when you hit D, quarter cicle back D to discard is an upward projectile regardless of item, and she has enough tools to fight without her items. It's just that certain items make life a lot easier. Again, the random aspect does not make or break her, so it's acceptable.

I'm not saying she's unplayable and I already admitted my initial post was an overstatement.
But I just base it on the fact that her items are a lot more situational than Faust's, items can make an even match up go in Plat's favour.
Yes she can cycle through them quickly to reduce the randomness but it doesn't change the fact that you have to spend time to do 214D to toss the item and then have to find a way to equip another item.

Ugh, god, why did I leave my fightstick in AZ where I can't get it for another two months?! Even if I can't get online, I needs my practice!

THIS IS KOF. KOF13 is just jump hop heavy into "braindead" pressure into long ass combos with the drive meter.

I mean even mai has decently long ass combos in the corner.

Huh? They are hopping just as much as in 13 there.

And lol at brain dead pressure.

Tokido and Xiao Hai's crazy movement and use of normals to cover both defense and offense is what KOF is all about imo.

I can't imagine approaching her that way. There are tons of times where you'll have an item on deck that isn't helpful at the moment, and the next one isn't either. If you wait until you get a "good" item, you're gonna get rushed down or counterhit out of item summon. If you're relying on items, you're going to get fucked eventually.

Don't wait, get a chance to get an item, take it and use it. You can also play around somebody attempting to deny you an item summon until you get an item. If it's not all that useful find a spot to toss it or deal. Plat relies very heavily on items, watch any high level Plat. They cycle through and use so many items and they'll take anything at any chance. Pretty much every item will have some use, and if something isn't that useful loops and 214D happens anyways.

The default approach to Platinum is to look at your item and situation and adjust, then captialize when you can. On the other side of things, killing Platinum before she gets an item and a situation is the basic starting point for the MU.

Out of all SF4 EVO champs, who do you think won with the most fare/lowest tier character?

1- Vanilla Ryu(Daigo)
2- Super Ryu(Daigo)
3- AE Fei Long(Fuudo)
4- 2012 Akuma(Infeltration)
5- 2012 Gen(Xian)
6- Ultra Rose(Louffy)

I'm leaning toward Super Ryu, but my SF4 knowledge is lacking.

I recently re-watched some competitive KOF 98 and my god is that game so good.

Infamous one-handed xiaohai kof 98 play

I miss this game. I'm trying to play XIII more but I definitely love 98 and 2002.

XIII's combos are too long for my taste and all the normals feel stubby. I pretty much stick with Kula and EX Iori because of that lol

Force Breaks mean more options to confuse newcomers. That's how they see it anyway.

Plus it hogs less of the spotlight to supers which ASW wanted people to use again.

How you do? Still in Vegas? Did you smash?

No I'm not talking about that kind of smash... I mean smash smash!

I'm home, I did bad new equipment woes and such, and no I did not smash.

The only thing I smashed was some dudes hand that didn't get the fuck out of my way despite people yelling to get the fuck out of the way.

Has there been any update in the UM steam data ?

because it's been there for at least a year now with no release in sight

Right, if you don't have an item, you have to use her other tools to make a chance for you to get one. If you have one, make the best of it. If you can cycle to the next one and it's more useful, great.

But wasting time cycling for the perfect item is a blow up. That's what I think of as being dependent, and of doing it wrong.

Heard he got drunk with Gootecks and things happen...

We hung out, I gave away some secrets I keep to myself about some street fighter related stuff, and I hated on Dieminion for making bad bets.

It was also weird to have people saying OH HEY THAT DUDES NOSTRADAMUS.

But yeah never believe dumb shit stupid fucks say online about the players.

Best moment was running into Seth and having him say "oh I got your badge!" Only for me to tell him I had one already. He looked around and basicly just said "Well I'm about to hit the bar down for a few drinks?" And yeah things only got better from there :D Well besides the fact Seth told everyone we came across that I'm an asshole :D

What's he saying?

http://www.twitch.tv/nycfurby/b/547401189

Starts somewhere in the middle. He isn't happy about his performance and goes on about it's impossible for him to get better because of the lack of overall talent, mainly certain matchups, and online is crap and can't help with that. This doesn't just apply to him but everywhere in the U.S. Overall U.S did not do all that well in Ultra. And East Coast, NYC specifically, is divided and he's going to do whatever it takes for it to not to. First thing is to help people get out of EMP and make better for themselves.

That's being overly dependent. Using the threat of items to change situations is a thing though. Like always have an item or be trying to create the situation based on it. Guess you thought I meant go "I want a fan" and start doing item loops lmao

Gen.

Ryu has never been lower than high mid-tier IMO.

Also I'm sad EVO is over now, I need a time machine.

and of course A BIG THANK YOU to everyone that helped me get out there for the first time. I've been wanting to go for ages and finally getting to experience it let alone the ways I did made it an UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE. <3 you all

And an extra big thanks to Shouta for organizing the things to get me there and to Beef for letting me room with him :D

Oh best moment was when seth was chilling in our hotel room and Beef came in and he looked fucking flabbergasted like he got drugged or something after Seth left Beef said he didn't know what the fuck was going on at first hahahaha

Also Seth stole my room key on day 2, well it was an accident but still was funny

Haha, KojiKOG is hilarious. Screw Rose, I would rather learn T. Hawk.

Which Seth are you talking about, Seth Mussey or Seth Killian?

This is pretty rich considering years ago people were saying the same thing about art himself, that he had access to top level talent to train when he would go to other tournaments and take everyone's money. Skill even wrote a domination 101 article on it.

So it's OK to use that as an excuse now?

The double standard matchup is too strong for Art....
9-1 for double standards
