Fighting Games Weekly | July 14-20 | Bracket Resets Full of Tears (of Joy?)

This is pretty rich considering years ago people were saying the same thing about art himself, that he had access to top level talent to train when he would go to other tournaments and take everyone's money. Skill even wrote a domination 101 article on it.

So it's OK to use that as an excuse now?

Exactly, and it's not like Louffy has access to all the matchups either in Europe.

Arturo is simply not investing enough time or is not applying himself properly to be successful at EVO (at this point). He has only recently started to learn Dhalsim's U2 and that speaks volumes. There is no comparison between him and Louffy even though they use the same character. Louffy has been playing with Rose for 5 years non-stop, he participates in online tournaments and also plays against random EU-online players. Art is a great player though but it's pointless to complain about such things. EVO is what it is, a lot of great players were eliminated before semis and they will have to suck it up.

But he was probably just drunk, tired and disappointed when he streamed. A little vacation in Japan will obviously not harm anyone.

Tekken 7 crowd reactions that were missed on stream.

People seemed pretty hyped despite Fatal Frame CG trailer. haha.

At the end of the day, if this hadn't been leaked, it would have been BIG. Even with a teaser/trailer like that.

When was the last time EVO got such a big reveal? Usually this sort of stuff is saved for E3.

Edit: They're already having Tekken character popularity polls. Each time you shuffle, it's a new vote. Oh man. Nobody vote for Bob or Lars. :)

When the heck did the FGC ever have a monopoly on hype.

Never. lol.

Kind of funny to see so many people complain about Rose being overpowered. I mean, I don't know how strong she is or isn't in the current meta, but hearing so many people complain about Rose of all characters makes me feel like I woke up in some weird alternate universe or something.

Dem forward dash options seem pretty good though. Probably one of the best forward dashes in the game because of the options she has.

You know for an event that was sponsored by Baja Blast I saw none of it anywhere

I finally tried it recently and wasn't impressed. Too sweet. Glad you had a good time Q and that I could play a small part in sending you out. EVO is a great experience for anyone that can make it out.

My flight in NY got cancelled so I'm stuck at the Marriott tonight.

Just wanted to say thank you to all the gaffers I met at EVO. I had a blast hanging out and you all made my EVO experience that much better. Hope you all made it back home safe. I'm hoping to fly out of NY back to Va tomorrow morning.

Never. lol.

I actually found the reveal super lame and even a bit insulting--you diehard folks just get a shitty clip, but we'll save the real deal for SDCC! I would have been happier with him just confirming T7 and thanking the community. Whatever, though.

KOF13 is the extreme in KOFs in terms of offense. Combos are way longer, pace is way faster, and there is less emphasis on grounded footsies compared to 98.

And that is why I love it, there is so much to do and so much to learn.

To me KOFXIII is SNK's 3rd Strike in that the devs went all out and made the game they would have wanted to play. They thought it might be their last KOF and it definitely feels like they put their all into it.

Even after the game's release they uploaded match vids between themselves for quite a while.

The Tekken 7 CG trailer was successful in deflating my erection after the Justin Wong EVO win.

Yes let's debut a new fighting game at EVO by just showing a poorly voice acted CG trailer and no explanation of mechanics, characters, features etc.

It was a terrible reveal. But imagine it without there being a leak. Would have been the most unexpected thing ever.

I was definitely not expecting Tekken 7 so soon.

3 projects: Tekken 7, TKXSF, and hopefully Pokken.

Plus they're making Rise of Incarnates and Smash. Namco must have hired a lot of staff lately. It's really hard to believe how they're invested in so many things.

That's how most Tekken's get revealed, lol......usually in cg form with no explanation of mechanics, characters, features.

They don't seem to be working on a new Soul Calibur so my guess is that some of that staff is working one of those projects.

This happens a lot to the point where I was totally expecting that to be the case with the announcement of T7. Look at E3.

They were better off not announcing shit.

Can T. Hawk do anything against Rose's back dash?

EX Spire catches it if she's trying to get away from you at point blank ranges. If they're doing multiple back dashes it's a little annoying but that means you can just light spire across the screen for meter.

Back on Rose, again she's not overpowered. That was Bonchan failing in match-up and player knowledge and failing to adapt fast enough. He was basically mindfucked when the bracket reset occurred and while the advice from Daigo, Mago, Tokido helped a little bit, he was still bleeding badly. The two most obvious things he was doing that he shouldn't have was 1) Fireballs against Louffy before the bracket reset which ended up giving him such a huge meter/damage bonus. 2) Crouch attacking to stop rose after she got in with a dash. He got hit by the cl.mk a ridiculous amount.

Not sure if srs.

The game feels like the devs tried to mimic 02 and how Mexico/South America plays the game. Rewarding hop ins and yolo offense. Plus a ton of characters are missing moves that are a staple of how they play. The hitboxes are pretty bad for the most part. Mexican Uppercuts (a key part of the KOF titles) are largely useless. And the game boils down to TOD and/or long combo and guess block in the corner.

Lmao, okay.

A shame no one got to see what Justin's new tech was, I won't say it for obvious reasons but it's some of the dirtiest fucking shit I've heard for marvel. Let's just say Justin had this EVO in the bag if he wanted to show the ace up his sleeve.

Saying he frauded it is dumb as fuck too.

Lol, I feel if Justin ever went MorriDoom or Zero, we would have a repeat of MvC2 where everyone is fighting for second place.

I would rather they just announce that Tekken 7 was in development rather than showing that CG trailer.

Like if they announced a Marvel patch and then showed a random ass CG trailer of Doom fighting against Zero my hype would've been deflated.

That's the type of shit you pull at E3 not at EVO.

I am still excited that Tekken 7 is being made but they couldn't have unveiled it in a worse way than that.

I have said it before multiple times but Justin Wong picking up Dark Vergil to compliment his Wong factor would open a rift in the space/time continuum.

I feel the Tekken 7 reveal is disappointing because we were supposed to get a TKxSF reveal but last minute it was pushed aside for essentially nothing.

I feel like you care too much about 'hype' or the spectacle of these kinds of announcements. Showing that CG does in fact tell you that the game has started development. I can't blame you though were pretty much trained that way in this hobby.

That was a really weird announcement, I actually believed when he said Tekken 7 wasn't the title he was going to announce at first because of how "anti-hype" was that trailer and the announcement itself. Yet I'm looking SDCC to know more about it, love me some Tekken

btw, I couldn't understand a thing Ono said after that, what did he said?

He's played against Starnab for years thus covering the Fei matchup, he's played against Ryan Hart for years thus covering the Sagat matchup, he's played against Problem X for years thus covering the Ibuki matchup, he's played against Alioune for years thus covering the Sagat and Cammy matchup..................etc. Pattern here?

There are only two accounts of him losing/getting blown up and that was against Xian (no real notable Gen in Europe that he has played against for years, one that is on Xian's level even) and NGL Chris in money matches who has the most I would say never sit still always pressing/doing something Ken who Luffy has no real experience against.

And Bonchan (and not just him) very obviously has no Rose experience near that level. Only person to ever come near that level is Sako but he dropped her fast as hell after getting blown up by Justin at his first SCR. Filipino Man is getting there but he's I would say one or two tiers below Luffy. Luffy is the very definition of character specialist.

Art has a point but I'm not going to get into specifics about his past and what not just to try and convey to someone about it. Let's just say Justin is right in that Europe is better than the U.S.

I feel the Tekken 7 reveal is disappointing because we were supposed to get a TKxSF reveal but last minute it was pushed aside for essentially nothing.

And that announcement would have made sense too since it was before SF4 finals.

That they were working on something and he hopes to speak more about it soon.

Then just pretend you didn't see the CG trailer. The game is confirmed either way. The CG trailer won't/doesn't speak to the actual quality of the game whenever it releases. It's pretty much just equivalent to an announcement.

I hated the reveal too but won't let that impact all dat excitement.

Like if they announced a Marvel patch and then showed a random ass CG trailer of Doom fighting against Zero my hype would've been deflated.

Don't be lying son. :P

Silly request, but I don't suppose anyone has found a video of the closing comments from James / Seth after Louffy's win? The Twitch archive on srkevo1 cuts off before the end, unfortunately.

I have said it before multiple times but Justin Wong picking up Dark Vergil to compliment his Wong factor would open a rift in the space/time continuum.

I don't think that fits Justin at all. Akuma ends up being a great assist for him as well as working with his hit and run style. His Akuma game was fucking on point.

Like I said I am still excited for Tekken 7 but the trailer didn't do much for me.

What I got from that trailer:

*Bad English voice actress of the woman who plays Kaz's mother. This also confirms that the story will focus on her and how Kaz inherited the demon gene from her.

*The 7 logo looks hella WIP right now.

*Kazuya and Heihachi will be in the game (SHOCKER!)

I might have been more hyped if I still cared about Tekken's story.

I ain't no god damn rat, why would I ruin something he told me himself. That shit is for next year. Just know that his tweets were the real deal.

I can make a pretty good guess as to what it is but if Q is gonna be this tight about it, might as well let the crowd get hype. The obvious hint is that it involves Wolverine. The least obvious hint is actually pretty normal but no one is thinking about it, if I'm right that is. If Q wants, I can PM him and he can pretty much confirm my prediction then sign an oath in salt to keep it secret until Wong chooses to reveal it.

Parallax, you have spoiled me. I feel like the gif should have the sound of that very old viral video of that lady squashing grapes with her feet falling off the wooden platform and sounding like a walrus in pain.

I would rather they just announce that Tekken 7 was in development rather than showing that CG trailer.

If we even got a nod to a marvel patch, or a god damn wink, the crowd would have lost their marbles. You would have probably been at a psychiatric ward with me on the side the next day.

Also Wong has been knowing how to play Vergil for ages man, its just not nutty enough to compete with Rog's Vergil at the moment.

well those are the reasons why I don't like it. Its not a bad game but its definitely not the best KOF.

Not every game need 50/70% combos and/or wall carry.

I mean outside SF4, what game doesn't have massive damage?
1) BB is full of it
2) P4U is full of it
3) Marvel has TOD
4) Tekken is 50% combos easily.
5) MK9 had 40-50% pending on character
6) Injustice has 40-50% on almost every character in most situations

KI is the iffy one. If you don't go for a combo breaker, the max damage you'll take is about 20-30%. But if you guess wrong on that combo breaker...

In comparison in the past you had games like
1) 3s (only high damage combos were cancel into super
2) CVS2 (outside ratio advanage and lvl 3 super/custom combo/K groove)
3) SC2
4) KOF98
5) GG

You can see a fundamental change in design. There are exceptions such as UMK3 but for the most part, fighting games before did not have high damage consistently. ST of course had high damage that could lead into stun but its not as prevalent as kokonoe doing a 5k combo off of a random hit.

Once again the real meat of his message was about how broken the NYC scene is, as he puts it, and not he whining about being unprepared about certain match ups. The WNF vs NLBC exhibition put an exclamation point on that sentiment. He's talking about a frog in the well situation; he's being the hardest on himself since he admitted that he simply wasn't good enough despite thinking he was in relation to where he playes. At the end of the day I feel like he's calling for camaraderie and not trying to throw the rest of his scene under the bus
