Unlike Reach, the multiplayer maps are being built separately from the PvE spaces (although they do share the environmental artists), so it wouldn't be unusual for them to create entirely different environments. It's possible that there is a story mission on Phobos, but it looks more like a stand alone space in the Crucible that they haven't announced yet. There was some speculation earlier about it being the Exodus Blue map, but that was just revealed here, which throws that theory out.
It's commonly misunderstood that Reach's maps were somehow developed for both co-operative and adversarial multiplayer. It was stated many times by different employees at Bungie that the adversarial maps were designed on their own first and then integrated into the campaign spaces.

Mhmm I've also seen people assume that Reach's maps were "taken from the Campaign", which wasn't really true. The difference here is that they don't appear to be integrated into the PvE spaces. I can't run around Rusted Lands for instance and shoot Fallen even though it's from the same planet and location as a PvE chapter. Maybe they will eventually throw some AI on the PvP maps; it's still on the table if they haven't confirmed otherwise.

I actually liked that the maps were implemented into the Campaign in Reach, even if they weren't really well designed to begin with. To piggy-back off of everyday math's "post-apocalyptic" post a few pages back, seeing the map with AI on it or at a different time of day was kinda neat and made them feel like real spaces. And they had a good amount of changes too that made them feel different. Countdown and Boneyard especially looked great in the Campaign, and I liked how different Sword Base was during each visit.

Ultimately, I don't think it'll be necessary with Destiny. There are already several dozen maps and environments in the game with expansions planned, so we wont really need to reuse existing content...

ya i mean it sucks if they wont have pre-loading at all ( i acutally just went and did the whole EU thing and am acutally currently dl it now) so i really hope that doesnt give me any problems as far as the unlockables or w.e it is you get from playing the beta. But ya from what i read on bungie the beta starts 10am PDT so if you at least on the east coast it will give you some time to DL it as id imagine the game will at least probably be available to dl at midnight

Hey guys, this may be an odd question but can anyone remember if each of the different grenade variants in a subclass had a different icon?

One the best posts in the thread so far (along with the PVP posts). Top tier music. So sad that the DLC and Destiny 2 will be going forward with a different tune.
R.I.P Marty...
I know he's not dead. But he is to Bungie...

I truly want to know what happened. So sad.
My morbid curiosity agrees with you.

On a side note, GAF isn't the only place where Warlocks are spanking all other classes in popularity. A poll on IGN's Destiny Wiki page shows thus:

Perhaps, but I still look at Halo 4 as being a good example of someone who tries to emulate Marty but can't quite get it right.

Mhmm I still like many of the Halo 4 tracks, but it's way more "Sci-Fi cinema" than it is "Halo video game".

On the other hand, the Halo Spartan Assault soundtrack is well composed and is a great homage to Marty's work. I'd dare say that I like it a bit more in some of its tracks, although it's noticeably smaller in scale.

They did. Or at least the Incendiary and swarm grenades for hunter are different icons, the first for warlock is different as well. Not sure if any are re-used for other grenade types. Didn't play titan much because I didn't care for it, and didn't get other warlock grenades. Could probably just search for videos real quick to check the grenade icon, though.
