The world still needs a Dead Space 2 remake

I was against the remake due to the ridiculous bathroom and grandma girlfriend (like really? They had to do this? This culture war crap is what was missing from the Dead Space universe?) , but someone gifted it to me.

Thoughts:
  • The graphics tech is really nice
  • Still a great horror game
  • Sold 1M copies, how much did EA expect FFS, that's a solid number!
  • Why even build a team and dismantle it and not do the 2nd game? 1 was more of a remaster than remake anyway; all the game engine tech and design problem solving was complete

Really really strange and shortsighted
Dead Space is the kind of game that will sell over time

I agree the second was terrific.

I tend to hate the silent protagonist thing, and I thought Isaac had a good voice actor in 2.

Nah… The series had one good game, and that got its Remake. 2 was way to linear and the end was horrible. Killed the series for me and I think I even read the first book for it cause I liked the original so much.

Lol, imagine getting angry over a bathroom

I think I enjoyed 2 more than 1 but I also enjoyed 3 a lot, simply because my girlfriend was getting into games back then and we had two PS3s in the room and we played the whole game together and it was a really nice experience for us. But yes, 3 had repetitive environments and an identity crisis.

I was hoping to either get a 2 remake that would change the story into a different 3 game or just get a 4.

Still haven't gotten around to play the remake, but always thought that a Collection was a better idea for Dead Space. I still don't know why companies stopped doing Collections of games! We had it good for a few years!

yeah they really had to do the whole non binary stuff , thats the reason i didnt buy it

Fucking shame that EA didn't greenlight a Dead Space 2 Remake. EA Motive did an amazing job with the original, and I have no doubt 2 would've been even more spectacular. It's mind numbingly frustrating…

No, no it really doesn't. Don't destroy more of my favorite games with modern era writing and stupid propaganda injected into the game. Dead Space 1 and 2 are some of the purest games I've ever played. That first game's remake blows, I'll never forgive them for what they did to the characters. Thanks for reminding me and pissing me off about that shitty game again.

I love the contrast/gamma of this game, its only SDR but the blacks are black. When I replayed the first game I couldn't get 8K as a native resolution to work so I did 4K with 4x MSAA + 4x SGSSAA for transparencies and it looked amazing, but with DS2 I could just do 8K native and it naturally took care of the aliasing on transparencies, making things like the mesh grid in the 3rd image look so clean.

The screenshots are very good but when actually playing it (on a 4K screen, downsampled), the 3D effect it gave was amazing, there were so many other parts where it was screenshot worthy but taking them started to hinder the pace of the game so I had to stop and just play it ha. You can keep 60fps on a GTX 1080 99% of the time, the only drops were during in-game cutscenes where lots of transparencies (the sort of spittle that comes out of the tripod as an example) were really close to the camera, very brief.

8K Native, you should be able to zoom on them (in fact they won't go to their full resolution until you do zoom):

I'm grateful we even got a remake of the first Dead Space. I showed my support by buying it on every system I own.

As much as I'd love to see Dead Space 2 get the same treatment and I'd be there day one, it just doesn't seem likely to happen.

I'd buy it in a heart beat. This IP deserves so much more, I hate how it's been treated. It really, really sucks.
From what I know, EA said they do not want the Dead Space IP anymore and are looking for a potential buyer. However, that was the tune they were singing BEFORE the habibis bought EA. So I am not sure if that has changed. Despite that though, whoever buys it, better give it the treatment it deserves assuming that an IP sale will even happen.

Dead Space 2 Remake was supposed to happen but apperently the first Remake didn't sell well enough to warrant it. Which is rather sad.

I was on my way to posting screens, which I will, but now I feel less like I have to, because you came and posted these. I had problems with my Bluetooth not connecting to one of my controllers, so.. troubleshooting. Which led me to installing a new chipset update, which was nice to discover.
These screens look amazing, I also want to say that this game naturally scales well to ultra wide and 240hz out the gate, and is sickening.

Chuck Berry Chuck Berry check out these screens, man!

Did anyone else here use the seeker rifle?

I fucking love that thing, especially with the zoom function. It was really good using it with stasis against those raptor like necros (amazing enemy) for precise shots to the legs and also against those fat fuckers that split open and release all the creepy crawlers if you hit their center mass.

Sucks they got rid of it for 3, even though you could technically build your own (arguably the best part of 3, building your own weapons)

I loved the seeker rifle. I did a seeker rifle only hardcore run which was tons of fun.

I really hope to see a remake of it one day...

Yeah. I fucking hated the story and how they did Isaac-papi dirtier than a borracho, face down in the gutter.
you probably didnt understand the story, its normal, i didnt first either, the story is basically a form of solution to the fermi paradox who connects the other 2 games so well that is hard to believe they didnt thought that from the start if this is the case

dont believe the shit people say in the internet, DS3 is very, very good for anyone that love sci fi and horror, even the shit microtrasanctions doesn't compromise the game

Bro, I platinumed that shit on PS3. Still hated it. It pales in comparison to DS1 and 2 and they really fucked off the relationship between him and Ellie, which pissed me off. She went through a lot with Isaac and to see DS3 start off the way it did, really irritated me. They had idiots for writers, for that one.

Dull level design and cover shooter battles with soldiers are enough to ruin it without even touching on the story.
people on the internet barely touch those aspects, they tend to talk about the lack of horror and the mtx, the lack of horror already happened in the two that was praised as more "dynamic" by some outlets at the time and mtx doesnt destroy the game (although ill say that it was unnecessary yes)

bro, the game is sci fi horror talking about the end of the world and you caring about the relationship of two characters like its a soap opera? Its just need to make sense why they break and did

I played dead space 2 a few years ago on my series x. I enjoyed it but I still think ds1 was better overall. Not to say 2 was bad. Far from it. Great game.

Clean as fuck. I don't think all PS360-era games look great when uprezzed to this extent, but this one does.

If anyone decides to play DS1 on PC after reading this thread and is going to use a controller bare in mind it feels like complete shit to control out of the box, both the sticks have ginornmous deadzones so it feels really laggy, I used DS4Windows (Ryochan7 fork) to apply an anti-deadzone to the sticks to make them feel right, I recommend 0.40 for both.

Clean as fuck. I don't think all PS360-era games look great when uprezzed to this extent, but this one does.

The only shame was that the in-game AA was trash and externally applied AA always had a caveat like it broke shadows or caused white borders on some things, I went through the whole Beyond3D forums nvidia compatibility bits thread and similar threads but I could never fix it, thats why this has aliasing when you zoom in. Obviously pedant stuff though ha, looks amazing.

Dead Space 1 with MSAA and supersampled transparency AA had even better image quality in that sense but with less detail since it was 4K + 4xMSAA rather than 8K. It really was a joy to play them both in this way.

Exactly, the game is very underrated and completely misunderstood.

It's a shame that the devs were able to refresh only the first game, I was sceptical but ultimately loved all of the changes. Second game would need more work because of things like more varied environments and longer campaign, but it would still be doable imo.

Realistically, if anyone buys the IP at some point, the most likely scenario would be making a brand new sequel (while forgetting DS3 ever existed).

Dead Space 2 is better than RE 4, and I'll die on this hill

It's probably the best survivor (?) action horror game ever created.

The pacing is pitch perfect, the controls are great, setpieces are awesome, great characters, perfect length, and tense af (stalkers).

There's always this guy.

The remake was fantastic.
I enjoyed it. Was dripping with atmosphere.
Didn't care about the character recast and gender swaps. Don't matter because they're all fodder for the necromorphs, anyway. I thought using the VAs face for Isaac was a good decision, too.

Dead Space 3 on the other hand. Pffft. Laugh at those who say this game is misunderstood. The most interesting about 3 was the ending and it's too much work to get to it, but… you know what?

I might just do a fucking hate-playthrough.
Just so I can update my insults.
