Fighting Games Weekly | July 14-20 | Bracket Resets Full of Tears (of Joy?)

SF4 is at least a better spectator event.

The last year Third Strike was at Evo, all five top placings were Chun Li mains. Imagine that happening now, given how much Fei Long bitching there was in the Evo thread.

Well if only one character was taken into account than yeah but if it was a fresh top 8, 3rd Strike would be hype as hell man!

The only fighting game I have access to for the next month or two is Injustice, so I'm going to play the shit out of it (offline only though, as my internet is so shitty). Just not sure what character(s) I want to learn.

Also, decided it was time to update my avatar.

3s is a horrible street fighter game, so yeah its a no brainer that SF4 is a better SF game.

3s teaches you everything you shouldn't do in a SF game, but I love 3s to death. If only Chun didn't exist, ken had a slightly longer super meter and the same with yun.

If 3s was balanced more like SF4 then it would be a more fun game to watch. Chun just fucking ruins it with dumb ass normals and a super that does 50% and can be 2 stocked

I thought most people outside of a few eccentrics held this opinion.
Almost everyone at my local thinks SF3 is much better than SF4.

I am just not a big fan of the parry system especially with its interaction versus zoning characters and how it changes the standard footsie game of SF. I feel like it would be good if it was a SFA type side SF game but as a main SF game it just doesn't gel along with SF2 and SF4.

Learn Grundy!

Portugal/Brazil right?

I don't know in USA (i'm Mexican) but here was HUGE. I mean MOTHERFUCKING HUGE it can rival or even surpass what DBZ was, even today.

I think DBZ is as big as Saint Seiya here in the sense that everyone who's mid 20's till mid 30's watched as a child, but there are no die hard DBZ fans here, like those who would buy every single collectible item possible, it's the case with Saint Seiya tho. I know a guy who has more than 300 action figures from SS, it's crazy

Yes, Brazil in my case. And taking from your post and Gutabo's, SS is huge in Latin America, but no so much in NA

Yes, here in Peru DB(Z), SS and "Supercampeones"(Captain Tsubasa) were fucking HUGE. Only DB/Z still gets reruns tho. There were other huge animes too but I think that's enough anime for the thread already ;)

Exactly, and it's not like Louffy has access to all the matchups either in Europe.

Arturo is simply not investing enough time or is not applying himself properly to be successful at EVO (at this point). He has only recently started to learn Dhalsim's U2 and that speaks volumes. There is no comparison between him and Louffy even though they use the same character. Louffy has been playing with Rose for 5 years non-stop, he participates in online tournaments and also plays against random EU-online players. Art is a great player though but it's pointless to complain about such things. EVO is what it is, a lot of great players were eliminated before semis and they will have to suck it up.

But he was probably just drunk, tired and disappointed when he streamed. A little vacation in Japan will obviously not harm anyone.
While I agree that half of it has to do with the scene in new york not being very versitile with characters that are considered top tier. I also feel many people including Art just play the game, you can play a million matches and come out somewhat decent, but you need to put in that Infiltration work, taking notes and actually studying. People just play games and barely learn anything.

I just hope that ass beating sparked a fire under the east coast scene and they actually take the game somewhat serious.

I won't even get into the different clicks and people keeping tech secret or just not helping each other, thats a whole other thing they need to work on.

Also, I'm probably the only one, the links were annoying in the game. SF4 certainly made it easier for me... Maybe everyone doesn't share this opinion.

I'll be honest here. The east coast is filled with a bunch of lazy bums who aren't hungry enough for wins, I say that cause of all the locals I've gone too. Just cause they win locals they think they're the best in the world and realize they're just an ant in the whole scheme of things. Also what Ghost said, you need to put in work, a lot of work. To be good at anything, like really good, you can't half-ass it. That is practically what the entire East Coast scene does everything, half-assed. They need to break it down to a science and analyze the game from the ground up to know what makes it tick and work with each other, not against each other. I guess Japan has a pro with there not being any prize money in tournaments (from what I've heard posted around here), its not filled with greed but just love for the game!

Remove genei jin and make Chun a charge character. That would have worked.

In other news I still don't know how to deal with pressure in Injustice.... I am almost forced to pick Aquaman and use his traits plus superior normals.

+1

Hard to say how to deal with said pressure unless we know what it is. Just have to learn when they're negative so you can react like most fighters. Or you could push block if you have the meter. Aquaman definitely can deal with it too, doesn't hurt having one of if not the best down 2 in the game.

naw Genei Jin is fine. The bar just needs to be longer. He was just a slightly above average character without it. Yang would outclass him all day if he didn't have SA3.

The game engine and a low super meter is what made genei jin so powerful.

Fun Fact: Hungrybox stood and fought for 1 hour 7 minutes and 26 seconds starting from the moment he moved the chair for winners finals against Mango, beating Armada for a second time in losers finals, and ending as he's beaten again by Mango in grand finals.

His run was really incredible. I can't imagine how exhausted he was by the end of that

Genei Jin's also dumb that since it counts as a super for all his moves, it never trades with any normals iirc

well even then its not that bad. Its just how often he had access to it or how often it was up. I mean trades weren't super common in 3s (IIRC).

I really don't think genei jin, the super, was the problem. I think the problems were things that made it better than it should of been.

Its like imagine if rose can ultra 2 3-4 times a match but the damage was lowered a bit. The super itself isn't stupid but the fact that she has it so often is.

Even though I'm much worse at 3S, I think it's a better game than 4 in almost every way aside from character balance /shrug

in my dream world someone rebalances 3s but only makes relatively small changes like making genei jin bar longer and giving chun only one bar of SA2.

Was getting mauled by a Wonder Woman poking me with her sword all day. I knew she was negative but if I tried to stick out my Light attack she still has more range and hits me out of it.

More research is required.

And we are getting dangerous close to a 3S patch wishlist...

Who are you interested in playing? The game has so many interesting designs and they're pretty much all viable.

3s is a more interesting game but it's also more broken overall reducing it's playability and entertainment value.

Yeah, I was rooting for him. Mango was in total control though. Maybe Hbox can figure out a strategy by next year (or will the community switch to SSBU?). His whole game rode on getting those Rests in, if he couldn't get it he had a rough time. It's too much of a gamble.

on the topic of 3s: you guys probably already know but someone did do a major balance overhaul to it called 4th strike at one point. never played it but some of the stuff looks pretty dumb. impressed that he did this much restricted to just editing the rom.

if any of you guys wanna Project M 3s pls do.

For something a little different, Numakie is streaming the Aquapazza kumite that happened Thursday night, as it wasn't streamed. Featuring Mabushin (who plays a bunch of stuff but was here for UMvC3 -- apparently has a really good Shuma and beat Angelic in a MM) and KojiKOG (who is not only Japan's #1 T.Hawk, but also the #1 Tamaki player -- you do not want to fight him when he has a S-tier grappler). If nothing else, you can watch me get bodied. :x

This is pretty hilarious. Is that you on mic?

Well I'm 90% sure I don't want to play a power character. The gadget characters all interest me more, but I also don't want to start off with a character that's got a ton of combos I need to memorize.

I typically like fast, semi-rushdown characters more than zoners as well. Right now I'm thinking Catwoman or Flash.

I'm interested in playing. I really like Joker! Just need to get a stick so I can play the game the way I want to. Unless I have the wrong game in mind ;_;

They're both fast, rushdown characters with strong anti-zoning tools. Catwoman is super fun to play. Try her!

Hey Beef (and anyone else with an opinion): out of curiosity, who do you think I would main in Injustice?

from knowing you based off your post? Zod free. That or martian manhunter.

Something about smart play, setup, has a both zoning and pressure tools. Not sure how to word it so that they differentiate from batman and aquaman (who both can do the same but differently).

The lack of hit-stop in KOF XIII is screwing with me.

What's the "base" character in this game so I can get the fundamentals and systems down before I figure out who I want to play? I assumed Terry, but I don't like him.

the "base" as in the "ryu?" Kyo and iori.

Characters that are easy to learn fundamentally.

Kyo (both versions), EX iori (never tried claw), Athena, Ryo, Clark, Mai, King (off the top of my head)

What was the deal with that funky creature that was hanging over Zod's opponent throughout the Injustice finals?
