Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

I want a ms pac man metroid game now.

I don't see veterans ever getting a trailer without a newcomer. Ever.

Also, for the necomer trailer, do you mean to say that ganondorf, snake, and mewtwo will be in a trailer alongside a newcomer... or that they're the newcomer? If it's the latter, that will also never happen.
For the Double Veteran reveals, I don't mean trailers. I just mean Sakurai would upload their renders and screens for a PotD update, like he's done with many other veterans.

For Ganondorf, etc, they'd appear in a newcomer trailer alongside newcomers, Captain Falcon-style. I Don't know why you didn't quote Shulk and Chorus Men in my list.

It's an ideal scenario, within the real of possibility and not without precedent, but ideal.

On the contrary, I thought mashpotato Samurai said it would be one of the biggest pools of characters ever in a fighting game.

Either way it would be very shameful if a new smash game had fewer characters then it's prequel.
I thought it could go either way, but it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Not saying I want it for Smash, as the characters have remained interesting, but it work well for MvC3.

Personally I don't count them as three as they aren't even usuable online. I can see why people might and I probably will when "officially" talking about the character count, but to me right now there are 36 characters. Infact, 35 if I don't count Mii at all since it's not usuable online and could also be banned from tournaments and casual play that won't include custom movesets. (Unless there's an agreed upon default Mii like every other character)
I would put down big money that the default ruleset for tournaments will allow participants to customize special moves. A lot of fighting games let you choose supers and assists and it doesn't take a lot of time since people are familiar with the options.

If a Rhythm Heaven character ends up happening, I think this will be the best batch of newcomers (personally speaking) ever, which is really great and funny considering people often say that these later Smash games will scrape the bottom of the barrel:

Robin - Holy god yes. The one FE character I truly wanted, and he/she plays just how I imagined. Still waiting to hear how/if weapon durability is incorporated.

Lucina - A clone of one of my favorite characters is fine by me. I was hoping maybe she'd be coupled with Chrom. Honestly Chrom being relegated to Robin's FS feels odd to me, but I'm still very satisfied about how all the Awakening stuff was handled.

Mii Fighters - Very pleased with how they were implemented. I personally want to make my Mii a Gunner. I think no Miis online is silly though. I get why, but maybe they could just make the Mii associated with your NNID playable online? And moderate which Miis can be used as avatars? That seems reasonable I think.

Palutena - Honestly I would've been happy with any new KI character because Uprising is my GOTY for 2012, but Palutena was probably my favorite. Her implementation has me curious, with all the KIU powers being her specials, but I have no doubt she'll be fun to play.

Pac-Man - The one new 3rd party (after Mega Man) I wanted and thought was fitting. I knew Sakurai would do him justice. I think with all these male/female alts, a Ms. Pac-Man alt would be amazing (I had a Ms. Pac-Man machine growing up, and if my gaming enthusiast grandfather were still around to see that he'd flip).

Greninja - Admittedly, Greninja isn't my favorite Gen 6 starter, but that's not saying too much, because all of the XY starters were great. Honestly I would've been thrilled with Chesnaught (probably my favorite Grass type ever, plus Spiky Shield would've been cool in Smash), but Greninja is still an amazing Pokemon and looks hella fun. Plus more ninjas.

Little Mac - One of the biggest "icons" I thought had been missing from Smash. I love Punch Out, and I love that they went with the Punch Out Wii design. He's just a good character.

Rosalina - Stand user, awesome. One of the best Mario character, awesome. Space goddess that commands baby stars, awesome. She's a representative from one of my favorite Mario games of all time, plus she's just a well-designed character. I love Rosalina. Plus she's my MK8 main.

Wii Fit Trainer(s) - I love the inclusion of this character. SSB4 needed a character in the vein of Game & Watch or R.O.B. and WFT is a great character to fill that role. Wacky and fun, just like I like my characters.

Mega Man - I don't have the words to describe how happy I am about Mega Man's inclusion. It's a dream come true. Thank you Sakurai.

Villager - As much as I like all the other newcomers, this is far and away my favorite. Animal Crossing is probably one of my favorite Nintendo properties, and after Sakurai's post-Brawl comments about including an AC character, I didn't have much hope. So imagine my suprise when my #1 most wanted character was the first one announced for Smash 4.

I definitely agreed with most of your statement, and I'm eager to see more newcomers from Sakurai. I really hope Smash Bros 4 would be so awesome! :)

We don't know yet. I'm really interested in how his how destructible weapon system works; really glad they're bring that over in some form from Fire Emblem.

Same here. I'm extremely interested in Robin, and hopefully main him if he's so good. :)

I would doubt this, supers and assists are kind of a different thing, and a large, large element of fighting games is prediction, which custom moves kind of go against.

Does anyone here frequent Smash Boards? How do they feel about it? All of my concerns were addressed by attending and watching recordings of the Best Buy demo.

If you set up your custom moves just before the match begins, both players will know the other's moves, so....

It depends how easy and fast it would be to change them. If it's too time consuming, then no, because you have to keep in mind people wanting to use different moves for different matchups.

Since we're going to know the roster in a month...do you guys think Sakurai is going to do a blowout?

No, plus I think corocoro is just overhyping again. But he's definitely increasing the frequency of reveals. I expect either a Nintendo Direct or for them to repeat this random newcomer video in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for all of your support gang. <3

Thanks for your awesome commentating, made watching EVO and the Smash Invitational so much easier.

But seriously, thank YOU for all the support. The work you've put in (along with others) over the past several years to move the community forward doesn't go unappreciated. Hope to see you back and healthy soon.

Holy crap 30 pages of madness but it was fun reading...

So where is the fanart? watching the Robin trailer again he/she has a lot of JOJO pose material.
Also glad that Lucina is confirmed for a separate slot

Haven't we seen it in action? I remember it looking about as fast as creating a tag.
