We've seen time and again that creating new and enduring characters is anything but easy. For every Kamala Khan or Jaime Reyes, there's dozens of new characters that have fallen into obscurity for any number of reasons.

Ok now that's a little overboardFemale literally every comic character. DC and Marvel should be set in universes where there are no men. Like, Themyscira but the whole universe.
I give it a year.
In Jason Aaron We Trust.Pretty much yeah, but the stories better be good.
I disagree. Angela was brought over with Kid Liefeld, Sif has been around a while, and Valkyrie? no. They made Loki a woman for a year or so through fuckery, and now they will do it with Thor for a year or two through fuckery. They could just as easily create a new enduring character, but they would rather have eventful gimmicks to do and undo and sell books and move plot.

So that I'm clear:
Original Thor simply becomes unworthy of the hammer, and the new lady here, being found worthy of the hammer assumes the name, "Thor"?

Yep. Not really that big of a deal. It's happened several times before, and one of those was a frog .
Keep in mind we literally just finished an arc where Spiderman was killed, and not only did some other guy become spider man, that other guy ALSO became the new PETER PARKER.
calm down errybody

Wat?!
Wat?!
I love gender swaps, especially when they are faithful and retain the true heart of the character.
Same here. More of this, please. And racial swaps.
what happened to comics are for everyone?
But that just proves that it's not easy. You need a good idea, the right creative team, and the right market (probably the most crucial element) to make a character happen. That shit doesn't all just fall into place everyday.70% of the time those reasons end up being writers just not having any idea what to do with a character. That's how you end up falling into obscurity. Character they didn't create, and they don't particularly like, so they don't give a fuck, stick him in the corner with the coat rack. We've seen it happen a hundred times. If someone wants to do the work to develop a character that has some quality creation and design, it will endure. If not...random black guy in a mask only old dudes recognize.
I wonder if people who are posting for gender swaps actually read comic books. Genuinely curious.
Doc Ock implanted his memories in Peter's brain and took over, with Peter's memories in Ock. Then Peter-Ock died while Ock-Peter became the new Spider-Man.
Reparations for years of exclusionary comics.
Or a joke tweaking the noses of comic fans losing their minds today. You decide. ;-)

My man Supes is down with the swirlGoofy as this was, I did enjoy the scene where black Lois asked Supes if he would marry her if she were black and he starts sweating bullets.

Hardly anyone reads comic books. That's why inclusion is important.
I've already responded to having my "cred" questioned (and I apparently failed because even though I read comics I don't read the right ones). Now I can better empathize with women who are called "fake geek girls" at least!
Thor isn't a title though.
no Thor is male.. period
Well most of them are, it's just this one.
CanonWhich is fine, so is this female Thor canon or alternate universe style?

What's this? :OWell he did inadvertantly get the Earth blown up by a Celestial in Uncanny Avengers.
Thor as we know him will still be around (not sure what we're supposed to call him) using his axe Jarnbjorn

"Picking up mjolnir" is the Marvel equivalent of killing a bunch of green lanternsTechnically air walker and the destroyer both picked up mjolnir, but neither is technically alive nor has a gender.
Canon
Main universe. Thor Odinson is gonna lose the right to wield Mjolnir soon, and Nu-Thor gets it.
Canon, our Bro Thor is still around.
