Thor is now the goddess of Thunder

We've seen time and again that creating new and enduring characters is anything but easy. For every Kamala Khan or Jaime Reyes, there's dozens of new characters that have fallen into obscurity for any number of reasons.

70% of the time those reasons end up being writers just not having any idea what to do with a character. That's how you end up falling into obscurity. Character they didn't create, and they don't particularly like, so they don't give a fuck, stick him in the corner with the coat rack. We've seen it happen a hundred times. If someone wants to do the work to develop a character that has some quality creation and design, it will endure. If not...random black guy in a mask only old dudes recognize.

I disagree. Angela was brought over with Kid Liefeld, Sif has been around a while, and Valkyrie? no. They made Loki a woman for a year or so through fuckery, and now they will do it with Thor for a year or two through fuckery. They could just as easily create a new enduring character, but they would rather have eventful gimmicks to do and undo and sell books and move plot.

You didn't read what I was replying to, clearly. Everybody would love to just create a new enduring character. Since you clearly have that figured out, I expect to see your comic topping the charts soon.

Jason Aaron has been killing it with Thor God of Thunder, so I'm okay to see where he goes with this.

So that I'm clear:

Original Thor simply becomes unworthy of the hammer, and the new lady here, being found worthy of the hammer assumes the name, "Thor"?

Yep. Not really that big of a deal. It's happened several times before, and one of those was a frog .

Keep in mind we literally just finished an arc where Spiderman was killed, and not only did some other guy become spider man, that other guy ALSO became the new PETER PARKER.

calm down errybody

But that just proves that it's not easy. You need a good idea, the right creative team, and the right market (probably the most crucial element) to make a character happen. That shit doesn't all just fall into place everyday.

Legacies (which is all this is) happen all the time, b. It's a way to minimize risk and ensure that these new characters actually get some time to take hold. "Kamala Khan: "Changling Girl" could have been pushed aside tomorrow with 5 issues under her belt. "Kamala Khan: Ms. Marvel" is a lot harder to get rid of because of that legacy name.

I wonder if people who are posting for gender swaps actually read comic books. Genuinely curious.

I am literally about to read some Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle (hence why I keep bringing him up lol) as I post.

Goofy as this was, I did enjoy the scene where black Lois asked Supes if he would marry her if she were black and he starts sweating bullets.

Doc Ock implanted his memories in Peter's brain and took over, with Peter's memories in Ock. Then Peter-Ock died while Ock-Peter became the new Spider-Man.

Ultimate Peter was also killed. And is alive again. Yet to be explained. Maybe a clone.

Reparations for years of exclusionary comics.

Or a joke tweaking the noses of comic fans losing their minds today. You decide. ;-)

Oh you!

Hardly anyone reads comic books. That's why inclusion is important.

I've already responded to having my "cred" questioned (and I apparently failed because even though I read comics I don't read the right ones). Now I can better empathize with women who are called "fake geek girls" at least!

A bit disappointing it's a white woman, why could it be a minority.. or even an elf?

a blu elf thor would have been cool.

Whatever I don't know why Marvel is even doing this, especially since God Bomb and Thor of many generations have both been fantastic comic books. It won't last that long anyway.

Female Thor is still pretty cool though.

I'd like her as my avatar too.

I wonder if it's brunnhilde.

I wasn't questioning your cred, I wanted to see what your tastes were.

Thor isn't a title though.

Nope, but Thor is both the son of Odin and the person wielding Mjolnir. Usually that is one person, but sometimes it is two. Basically Thor doesn't stop being Thor just because he isn't wielding Mjolnir, but whoever wields Mjolnir is Thor.

Ah, well, that's not so surprising considering his boo-boo's during Uncanny Avengers and the small hint in Avengers.

Well he did inadvertantly get the Earth blown up by a Celestial in Uncanny Avengers.

Thor as we know him will still be around (not sure what we're supposed to call him) using his axe Jarnbjorn

What's this? :O

Which is fine, so is this female Thor canon or alternate universe style?

Was mostly making a punctuation joke here, but this is the upcoming main universe canon yes.

If we want to go into more details the inscription on Thor's hammer has always said:
"Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."

Other than that there've been two instances of another guy picking up the hammer and calling himself Thor from that point on. So it's not that big of a stretch besides the male name awkwardness. There has actually been a character that adopted the names Thoretta and Thorita, but I think that's equally awkward of handling a thing like this.

I wanna know what this Thor is gonna do to celebrate after a victorious battle. Laying with the maidens is gonna play a little differently now...
