You don't say.

I was just saying that, thanks to said perspective/angle of the shot, it looks kinda silly in my head.

How does that equate to him looking goofy in the game which was the point you were trying to make?

I can take a shot of any of the characters in any of the previous games to screw with the way they look.

I'd say people didn't necessarily hate the leak, just the fact that they were looked down upon for disputing something that was apparently "fact". The fact the tables were turned has lead to a lot of smugness and crow eating.

I Kind of think they hated the gamastu leak, having new comers being limited to just that may have been disheartening to some. And then , BOOM. Not only was the laker wrong about the representative of the franchise, the leaker was incorrect about the amount of reps and who was being revealed on that day. That kinda of blows some shit open, like rosalina there could be dudes he never knew about. Hell dude could be wrong about Shulk and the chorus kids. They might not even be in the game. Smash Run enemy aside that could have been just a thing smash run.

While I have no inside information in nintendo matters, I will say this seems like someone found out someone was leaking and told who they suspected the wrong shit.

watching live reactions of the Lucina/FALCOOO trailer on youtube, people have no idea who the hell is Robin which is weird considering Awakening was a hit

But Robin was a customisable character, including the name, so they probably didn't see the default personality face/name for very long

If they'd said "My Unit" or "Avatar" or something that might've hit better

Would be great if they can make male & female Morgan an assist trophy. Say if you're play as Robin, if you manage to summon them, they'll go "I'm here to help you mother/father!".
Just an easter egg sort of thing since there's never a guarantee you'll pull them when you're Robin or someone else pulls Morgan.

Whoa, Chrom's an assist trophy? I thought A Chrom/Lucina Character along the lines of male/female wii fit trainer was a given, considering they have identical fighting styles. Hell, I'm not even sure why Lucina isn't a reskin of Marth, but if she's got her own moveset i'm not complaining.

1- Chrom is Robin's Final Smash

2- Lucina is a clone of Marth

3- The difference between clones and costume changes is that clones may have different properties. Lucina's attacks hit the same no matter what part of the blade she hits with, while Marth's power is focused in the tip. There may be other property changes, such as speed or power, but this is what Sakurai has confirmed.

Explain yourself.
Falcon is fundamentally awful in Brawl due to the mechanics of the game (lack of hitstun, lack of hard knockdowns due to the air dodge, decreased mobility). Those mechanics by and large haven't changed. He will still be a character with terribad range/priority, lacking in any good moves (knee, uair will likely remain as nerfed as they were in Brawl), and have no answer to characters with large disjointed hitboxes.

(Triforce tier is arguably better than Brawl Falcon)

Well there you go, proof that the reveal was fake

That's a lot of conjecture.

So with the fact we have newcomer clones like Lucina who'd fit in perfectly with the melee clones, do you think we could see more of them back? I can't see young link coming back as Toon Link does his thing and does it better. Roy I feel got screwed by Lucina being a clone of Marth unless they wanted to retweak him to be a clone of Ike.

I could see Dr Mario or Pichu coming back, it would have been very easy to give Mario pills as one of his alternate fire balls, but they didn't. I would still be cool with Pichu as a "joke" bad character who hurts himself.

His biggest problem (at least for me) was that he had no priority. I remember having to run like a bitch because actually landing a clean hit was a nightmare against people who knew how bad he was.

He felt way more sluggish too, but why do people only blame Brawl physics (I now it was a large part of it)? I bet if Sakurai tweaked his animations he wouldn't have been as garbage as he was. :(

My goodness, I seriously can't believe how fast this thread is moving.... We are seriously on page 100 in less than 48 hours. Last I left off we were on like less than page 50.

What have we even been talking about for 100 pages? Anything of value or needless arguments about how big lucina's character box on the official page is and whether or not she is a clone/alt/unique character?

Tripping was definitely THE reason Brawl wasn't taken seriously. It wasn't the only problem Brawl had, it wasn't even the biggest of Brawl's problems, but nothing else was so prominent and so overly negative, nothing else affected the game as poorly and as widely as that. There's deeper, mechanical troubles, but tripping is just there and it's evident to everybody.

Perhaps you've got a point on a superficial/casual level, but on a competitive level, i'd say your off base (especially the bolded). It's been touched upon before, but Brawl wasn't taken seriously because of its atrocious character balance, it's myriad of exploits (chain grabs, infinites, etc) and the overly defensive nature of the game (planking!). Tripping was a drop in a bucket by comparison.

You only have to watch a high level match set to see what I mean. Tripping is practically a non-factor.

I think it's fair to say that a lot of players who would have tried to learn the game deeply didn't bother just because tripping is there.
Anyone who was turned off by tripping probably wasn't too serious about playing competitive Smash in the long haul. To put it another way, you're aware of critical hits and other luck based factors in Pokemon, right? Critical hits are undoubtedly even worse than tripping, but it's still got a thriving competitive community in spite of that. Why? Because the core competitive experience in Pokemon is pretty strong.

I don't know if we'll see the Melee people specifically back, but I fully expect more clones on top of this.

3 Links?

*sigh*

I really don't know. I've tuned out the arguing a long while back and I think it's stopped for some time now.
Back to hoping other characters are in or Praising Lucina!

He could have been good with Snake hitboxes maybe. The physics themselves aren't horrible but the air dodge combined with lack of hitstun and mobility options like dashdancing completely shut down anything he had going for him in Melee. And he unfortunately remained pretty much the same (but worse, due to stuff like less steep angles on uair, and less knockback on knee as well as a tighter sweet spot).

And yeah, lack of disjointed hitboxes (priority) means you suck in Brawl, and I have a feeling will play a large factor in the next title as well.

It's amazing how it was acceptable to give a character like Snake such enormous hitboxes that have almost zero startup on moves with such incredible power, but leave Falcon exactly how he was. I have a feeling just as little attention will be paid to him in this game, although I hope I'm wrong.

Pretty happy with how all the Emblem guys turned out.

Marth and Ike are essential at this point, with Marth's long history in Smash and Ike's heavier variation on a swordsman being well received. Chrom would just be too similar to both of them. I don't like Robin as a character, because he's just a blank slate for the player to write over in Awakening...He pretty much has no personality. In that regard, I'd much rather they had added a fun character with a lot of personality like Tharya or Sully or Gregor. But minor side characters like that never really had a shot, did they? We should just be glad its not all blue haired sword dudes for one, but mostly because thought went into Robin's swordsman/magician hybrid gameplay style...That makes Robin a more unique character to play than say Roy or Chrom would be.

As for Lucina essentially being a girl Marth, that's totally fine. It's 100% consistent with how she was in Fire Emblem Awakening, where she was basically a girl Marth already, and it gives players the chance to play as one of the top tier smash characters in a female variant.

To be honest, my biggest disappointment was Captain Falcon. I knew he was obviously going to be in the game, and I wanted him to be revealed in an awesome F-Zero setting, with a guitar shredding "Big Blue" and him zooming through loop de loops and cool shit like that.

Good to hear, it was so annoying to read through pages and pages of pointless arguing.

I am excited about Lucina! One thing that is really amusing to me is that of all the clone characters we have ever gotten, Lucina makes absolute sense to be a clone character (story and character wise) maybe she will have all of the things that the Marth complainers stated are now lacking from Marth. I think I read hat it seemed like they were making Marth more of a ground based character so maybe Lucina will have better aerial performance? I think that would be a good trade-off between the two.

Robin looks really unique and fun to play as, I'm super excited about him and needing to incorporate some more strategy into your game play (kind of like how Olimar requires a bit of micro-managing your pikmin to really be the most effective)

And to add on to others, I really hope Captain Falcon gets some buffs. I think if Sakurai just added some super armor onto a few of his moves and upped his speed he would be a pretty good character again.

Robin being able to marry Lucina is easily the creepiest part of FEA.

Robin marrying any child character is creepy.

Goes up to eleven in the creep-o-meter scale when you married a first gen wife in one playthrough and then immediately in the next one, you went after your son/daughter.
