Damn! Robin is sounding soooo dope!!
That just raises further questions!
They're treated as separate characters in the game and there are three Miis, so it's still rather conspicuous. Same with Sheik.Samus=ZSamus thought it was obvious
Pic of the day. The Levin sword and tomes are Robin's life lines. The Levin sword can be activated by using smash attacks--you can even activate these moves in midair! However, just like in the original game, the Levin sword can be used only a limited number of times before it breaks, at which point it takes some time to regenerate. When the Levin sword is unavailable, Robin fights using the bronze sword.
The way Robin launches Arcfire is kind of crazyhe or she calls down a bolt of flame from above, then launches a pillar of fire! By the way, Robins tome changes with each special attack.
So far, POTD this week have been amazing.
Man, I get more excited about Robin the more time passes. Love that item durability is actually a thing for him/her, haha. Seems like resource management is gonna be a legit concern.Pic of the day. I assume because the first game was only on the disk system and all 8-bitty. The second game got a rerelease on the Super Nintendo and looks (and sounds) really nice and is the one that got translated. It's also a prequel, so you don't really miss anything story-wise. As far as I know, no one's translated the first game yet... but you can kind of experience it by watching an episode of Gamecenter CX where the Kacho plays through it.
PotD looks good. NEED COMMENTS.
woahwait...did he just say smash attacks in mid air?
That's great to hear.Yes, because over time the main characters accept her for who she is.
Midair smash attacks? Oh lawdy

So tomes = specials
swords = smashes ?
It's the officially localized English version of the game. Yes, to me that trumps the original.
And I seem to recall the Japanese often treat this topic as kind of a joke, so is the "uncensored" version even something to champion from a progressive standpoint?
The update just made me wanting to play Robin even more. Robin is pretty amazing addition to the game.
Wow, midair smash attacks. Which the entire cast got them, but I can't complain about something new and interesting.
The tome system is also cool.

So basically you start with the basic element move (thunder) then when you use a special again it goes to Elthunder until it's reaches Thoron. Then a new element will start.
Sounds like it.
Also sounds like he could just mean aerials but the wording is a little tricky. I wish Robin would've been in the demo because it's one of the more unique looking characters.

She was a "she" in the English version, right? If so, that's canon to me.
If the tomes can break like the sword, I'd imagine the recharge like the sword, as well. But what would you use in the meantime? What is the tome equivalent of the bronze sword? Or are you just left with your sword and your specials are disabled?Remember that the trailer made it clear about tomes breaking like the sword (same thing happened in FE). Maybe they break instantly?
Wait, that second pic was posted earlier. So they just took a while to put them up in English.
Yeah, but
If he just meant aerials, that part after the dash would be unnecessary.

I barely remember that topic you linked, and I'm not being off-putting -- I'm not even disagreeing with you, I'm just saying I follow the English version of the story. It's the one I played, for chrissakes. Please, stop making this into some kind of drama. But that's the thing, she's still a girl in all versions of the game. She's fundamentally the same character in both versions. The difference is, in the English version they flat out removed a huge aspect of her backstory and character history. And if you don't "believe" in that backstory, that's fine, I just think your attitude on the subject is incredibly offputting.
That's just plain harsh. There's no point in putting she in quotation marks.
Re: your second point. You read my OP on the topic, you should know the answer to that.
Yeah, that's what has me puzzling, too. It'd be weird that Robin specifically goes 'I can only use [tomes] so many times" and say "that's why I've got my Levin Sword" if the Levin Sword were the only thing at risk of breaking, hah.

Still really unclear about tome-switching. Is it just an aesthetic thing, then? Say, you use a wind spell to throw yourself up into the air and it just changes the tome to a wind one? Does it affect your normals or something? Or... does it just cycle after a single attack? I'm actually more confused about this than I was before. :lol
Also, aerial smash attacks?! Robin is sounding GODLIKE.
Bronze Sword has no mid-air properties.
I love how we don't get it, but we can tell Robin is definitely awesome.
That doesn't really make sense given Robin making a big deal out of only being able to use them so many times and tossing his book away. Why even bring that up if it's a non-factor?My take currently is that tomes are really just normal special attacks and the sword breaking is the only thing Robin has to worry about.
Caveat - Sakurai uses tomorrows picture to clarify what's up with tomes
And requoting myself for the next page, I don't care if it's egotistical!Maybe the way that they come out in the trailer is the hint? Because Robin casts 'Thunder, Elthunder, Arc Thunder, and then Thoron' in order from least strongest to most. So like someone else mentioned, each successive spell comes out in order like Pikmin. And when you run out of tomes and reach the end of the 'cycle', a cooldown kicks in and the cycle begins anew once it ends. So when Sakurai says that the tome changes after every special, he just means neutral, maybe? Down-B could still be used to cycle between tomes, maybe, unless there's no way of swapping tomes without using them first, which I would be, ah, mixed about.
EDIT: Oh, well, ninja'd in so many less words. I was more elaborate about my explanation, though!
