First impressions of The Last of Us: Remastered (Game Informer)

It's an option. If it wasn't included, we'd have a whole thread of bitching about how it wasn't included. It's nice to have options. I'm sure the game as whole is going to look insanely good.

I'm calling bullshit on this. If it's truly a rock solid 60fps, there would be no such thread

I'm somewhat tempted to pick this version up as I never finished the PS3 version and I'd like to see it to the end. I'm a little hesitant though because I thought the vanilla game was super boring and I couldn't make it past the first season. So, is the AI still garbage-land in this game? Am I still going to see my dumb-bone allies farting around behind me , causing a racket and somehow not triggering the enemies? I've had this discussion/argument before (and I completely understand the other side to it), but the fact that the NPCs were invisible to the enemies was a complete turn off for me in the original game.

I guess Bayonetta is not a 60 FPS game either since it has drops too.

Big difference between locked 60fps and variable/unlocked framerate... The former may have average of 58fps due to rare drops but the latter may be 50fps

And it just occurred to me that the HD version uses 60fps prerendered cutscenes so if they felt the need to add a locked framerate option it can't be for 'cinematic' reasons

Looks good

Dat crisp floor.

No, they won't compromise the game design in the remaster.

For people who haven't played it I'm sure this could be good, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend dropping $50 to people who have already played through it (like myself).
Yeah, $50 feels like a knife twisting in my side considering I've already payed $60. Those of us that bought into the PS3 version know all about the excellent story and gameplay... is a shiny new polish really worth an addition $50 (grand total $100)?

There are people in this very thread that claimed they would rather game at 30 than 60. I wouldn't say there isn't at least a possibility of someone making a thread about how they don't like the look or feel of 60.

So glad I don't have a complex about this 30/60fps

Do I think it looks better with 60? Sure, but surely everyone has played (and completed) piles of games that even had drops from 30. This kind of stuff shouldn't be bothering anyone, TLOU will still be an amazing experience >_<. Tomb Raider: D had some noticeable drops, but it was a lush looking game and I for one am glad that I didn't throw down the controller in a fit of disgust. It is perfectly fine and won't, in any way, 'ruin' the game. Stop flashing this hyperbole all over the place.

Yes it can there was a ND employee that preferred 30 for SP though I don't understand why. And I don't believe its variable 40-60. Technically 60 with little drops is variable.

...If it's locked it doesn't have any drops.

If you want to see locked, go look at DF analysis of MGS:V. That's locked.

They're not forcing you to buy it, how is that a knife in your side? Jesus, it's just a game. If you don't feel like its worth it at full price, either wait a bit or don't buy it at all. We won't judge you, I promise.

I don't think those numbers add up

if it has rare drops then it isn't locked....
yea, locked does not mean 99% of the time, it means 100%. People saying oh it's locked 80% of the time.... *scratches head... that's not locked.

Anyway, I'm fine with KZ:SF levels of performance in the remaster even though it means the game wont be locked at 60.

I consider a game that is 60fps 99% of the time to be locked...

We really are at odds here (not really) because I've never seen a game that - to me - didn't look better at 60 than at 30. Even if you don't like the look, I just can't see why you would put yourself at a disadvantage by lowering the frame rate and increasing controller lag. Even on Sniper Elite 3 I had to turn off the 3D mode because the drop in frames destroyed the feel of the game. And I only bought the damn thing because I hadn't played a 3D game in ages. Whatever though, opinions. Enjoy the game (whatever the frame rate).
Well, with that reasoning why even stop st 60FPS then?;)

The problem of dealing with something's aesthetic is that there is not objectively a better, it's all a matter of preference and taste. Overall, I'm looking forward to it and think it's great that they included the option.

So 90+% of console games, including CoD. Ok. True concern if it turns out that way.

you're misunderstanding me. the guy I was replying to was saying that a "locked 60fps" has rare drops to 58fps and that variable framerate could go to 50fps.

I was simply saying that if it has drops at all its not locked.

Good to see a few screens. I was really hoping for some side by sides though. It's easy to remember a game looking slightly better or worse than it really did. Hopefully that's coming, if not from ND than using the photomode or something.

yes, also dat 1080p/60fps MP

Earlier you said that TLoU drops to 40 and has graphics issues. Source?

Here's the quote:

framerate drops to 40? jaggies? z-fighting? wth did they blow their time on....

lower your expectations folks

Anyways if the drops are not frequent and don't don't drop to like 50 or lower its a solid 60 FPS game.

Yeah, I don't mind if they're relatively insignificant drops, though there are some here that are more sensitive to it than me.

I was joking :P you obviously weren't on the TLOU:R thread last night

Ahhh, I was, but I work at night so I wasn't able to read everything. That baby was moving right along at times. Almost 11,000 posts before we even got a screenshot. Good times!

Am I the only one annoyed that there is $70 worth of DLC that is not included? I kind of assumed that a remastered edition of a past gen game would have everything.

if the Master Chief Collection can do it, I don't see why The Last of Us can't.

My understanding is that most of that DLC is not really substantive.

No cross-save support? I wanted to transfer my save from the PS3 version over the PS4. Well, I'm sticking with the PS3 version then.

Then even games like Mario Kart are not locked if you go by that strict rule. That's needlessly picky.

Man, I want to believe that this 30 cap is just for people that, for some reason, prefer 30, but it is very weird >_<

Cool. Is a locked door something you can randomly open 1% of the time?

Oh come on....

If your cruise control occasionally drops to 59 when you have it set at 60, would you say it wasn't working properly, or that it does what's intended about as well as expected given the technology?

fair enough. that's good quality madness though!

I've actually bookmarked the part I last read. Will get back to it later today when I've had my coffee and am ready for some good laughs.

Is Digital Foundry good?

I'm so torn on how to answer this. On one hand, they're able to notice the occasional double frame in Mario Kart that causes 59 FPS micro stutters, but on the other they completely bungle a capture, write a story about the information learned from said capture, then later realize they fucked up, which leads them to issue a not-apology.

I already have it on ps3 but I never tried the multiplayer there. I'm tempted to double dip for the online game on ps4 but I wonder how active it'll be?
