That rumor was a misunderstanding. It's for pre orders only. Unless they later stated this and I haven't heard of it but a guy in twitter a week or two ago messed up the tweet.
On Android, I press "Store," which takes me to a web-based version of the PSN store. From there, I press the little person icon with a checkmark by it (far right side of the bar near the top) and it pops out a side panel that includes "Redeem Codes."
And yeah, if you buy a game, redeem a code, or queue a download from the mobile/web app, it will start downloading on your PS4 if it's in standby mode.

I was getting the error both before and after joining Xbox Clan
PS4 chief. I'm European, remember reading something about how anybody could just download it on EU PS+.

there is no iPad app yet that's why, just iPhone. Although still should work, do you get any errors at all? I'm in UK and it works like a dream on iPhone 5

oh drat I forgot they separated EU and US beta codes sry bruh. I'm sure you'll be able to get a code from the request thread though, everyone who signed up gets 3.

Limited slots. 5,000 codes for 6 countries. (Malaysia, Singapore, Hongkong, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan)
I got my code ( have to redeem it after beta is officially launched) on the PSN store, so it's a one code only.
... My paranoia side is afraid my code is already burnt since I tried to redeem it before the official redemption period, of which they mentioned it's not available.
Another thing to note is that we don't have the pre-order programme like Amazon, so we can't preorder officially to get beta codes.

No, just preorder on Amazon and then cancel the order after you get your code.

The Code will not go live until tomorrow it'll be fine!
If nothing else I hope they give out codes at midnight so people can get a head start on downloading. 20+ GB will take over six hours on my connection at home.
The codes won't go out for a while but would assume it maybe before the actual go live.
The beta was 12.5gb in total.
