good post, vinterbird.

i hope by expansions, theyre shipping additional locations on existing levels and not the levels themselves. would be super lame if i had to pay 15 bucks to 'unlock Mars'.

i imagine the comet pass is what will add new planets like saturn and mercury
and uranus

All the alpha stats got cleared.

No, alpha doesn't count because no character info carried over.

He's dead, gone and never coming back friend.

Thanks guys :D

So do we think the expansion pass covers all these comets and stuff, or will there be a new expansion pass every 6 months we are supposed to pay for?

A little confused here. I have two preorder codes, both from an X1 preorder.

When I go to Choose Platform, I'd like to have one download for the X1 and another for the ps4. I don't see an option for this though.

When I go to select X1 it asks if I'm sure and I won't be able to change.

Will I be cake to Select Platform again for the second beta code I already entered?

Any ideas?

Not sure if this helps but I also had 2 Beta codes which I popped into Bungie.net. I then selected one dropdown for PS4, confirmed the popup message, then did the same for the second dropdown and confirmed for PS3. My code screen now looks like this:

I'm guessing you can do exactly the same for XboxOne and PS4

The Expansion Pass is covering two DLC expansions, and that's all they will cover.

I imagine, based on the contract, it will go something like this:

Expansion Pass will cover the two Medium Sized DLC launches, one in January and one in April.

Inbetween those two, we will get smaller DLC releases, which will be stuff like new emblems, colors for armor and small time stuff like that.

For Fall 2015 we will get Comet #1, which will be an large ass expansion with new areas, continuation of the main story, new multiplayer stuff and so on. At the same time I imagine Bungie will announce Expansion Pass 2 with two new releases spread out through the year until Fall 2016 where Destiny 2 comes out, and the cycle beigns anew.

I'm in the camp of owning a xbone and xbox 360 and i borrowed a ps3 from a friend in order to play early. Never ever used a ps3 for an extended period of time before and I find the menus absolutely baffling. But whatever i can play tomorrow :)

The XMB (cross media bar) is easy once you use it for a bit

If this is true, buying everything over a year would cost as much as an MMO with a monthly subscription. You really think Destiny 2 will be released in 2 years?

It might be worth it to wait in order to not play with the horrid controller that is the Dualshock 3.

Go back a few posts. The contract between Bungie and Activision explicitely states it.

Fall 2014: Comet #1 (Expansion)
Fall 2015: Destiny 2 (Retail)

and so on for ten years. Today we would of course have to move each year one step forward, so that Comet #1 is 2015 and so on and so on.

But yes. Destiny 2 is coming in 24 months, you can bet on it. Activision doesn't sign a ten year contract and calls it their biggest franchise investment ever, and says it will be the next Star Wars based on one single retail release.

'Twas the night before Destiny, when all thro' the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the Spaceship with care,
In hopes that St. DeeJ soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of ghosts danc'd in their heads

Someone do the next part

I know the contract and 2 years still seem to be short.

I know the contract and 2 years still seem to be short.

When the asset pipeline is strong enough, and you've known for the past five years that you had to make four retail releases, then you can plan ahead and be extremely smart in the way you develop stuff.

Whether it's too short in terms of time or not we'll judge when it comes out. But I don't see any reason to doubt the plans in the contract, as that is how one would go at it if they were dedicating the next decade to make something.

dont want to be rude or anything, but ive seen like a ton of people ask that already. Did nobody watch the video? they clearly said that ipad wont be supported till the full launch of the game or even later. As of right now its just the ios and android apps, and android isnt even updated yet. hope that helps

I know.

I wouldn't hold the ps4 vs xbone difference as much more than neogaf being largely playstation (at least from glances) and destiny being promoted as having the definite experience in ps4.

My Destiny app has been updated on my Android phone, fyi.

I installed the companion app on my ipad and it works it just doesnt look very good since the layout was designed for the phone.

2 years isn't enough to churn out Ass Creed/CoD this generation, I don't see them making Destiny 2 in two years. Nope.

Genuine question: Why not?

They've known for the past five years that they have to make four retail releases and four expansions. Knowing it beforehand has given them the opportunity to build ahead, and create an engine, pipeline and structure that would make it happen.

I don't see anything stopping them from fufilling their contract. Plus it's going to cost them insane amounts of money not doing it. They already lost 7.5 million in bonusses due to having to delay Destiny 1.

That contract is really old, I'm sure that since it leaked, there have been many, many changes to what it looks like in it's current form.

Also I do not think Activision would want to start a 10 year deal with a company that has built a game from the ground up by cutting bonuses...

I know it's Activision, but they're not that stupid.

Yeah you're quite correct. Thanks to you and Skel for the helpful info.

I know the contract is old, but it's the only actual insight we have into the franchise, and I would guess you don't radically change massive parts of it after signing a ten year contract. Things such as platforms could change, but I doubt the fundamental structure of Game / Expansion alternation will change.

And bonusses where, according to the contract, cut due to Bungie missing the original 2013 release date. So it's both Bungie and Activision being stupid, considering both parties agreed to the conditions mention in the contract.

Regarding the Companion App, anyone have any info on whether there will be a browser based equivalent for those of us who don't have smartphones and such?

If there will be one any idea when and where it'll be made available for use?

On the computer you mean? Just go to the Bungie site.
